Anime And Manga Differences
« on: November 04 2005, 08:17 am »
Are there any major differences between the Tsubasa anime and the manga?  You see, there's a lot of manga I'm reading right now and most of them are fairly long series.  I've wanted to swap up titles and read something different, so I temporarily dropped a couple of the manga series I was reading but will come back to later so I can read something different for a change.  One of these was Tsubasa.  I dropped reading the Tsubasa manga because I was watching the anime and reading the manga, but so far I hadn't noticed any real major differences between the manga and the anime (I've only read the first three volumes of the manga).  What I was wondering if there are any major differences between the anime and the manga later on?  If you can, can you list what these differences are?  And do you think I should keep reading the manga even if I've already seen the first season of the anime?  Or do you think I should just stick to watching the anime and come back to reading the manga again at a later time when I'm done reading other series?
When her leathery, crow-footed face turned towards my raised hand and said, “Yes, the boy in the Sailor Mercury t-shirt,” I sprung into action. It took me a brief 20 seconds to acquire the bokken (wooden sword) I had secured to the underside of our chairs with duct tape the night previous. Shouting “Japan BANZAIII!” in the manner of those noble kamikaze pilots from the War of United States Aggression (so tactlessly referred to in your history books as “World War II”), I charged the stage, bringing down the bokken forcefully onto the plywood table in front of Tiffany Grant. It was a tragic mistake not to channel my ki correctly. The bokken splintered into a thousand pieces, leaving me with no other plan of attack besides shouting, “You’re no Asuka!” as two Ohayocon toughs escorted me out of the room-SomethingAwful.com

So far I haven't noticed any real plot-changing differences. They've been faithful enough with that, but there have been quite a few changes.
-Episode 16 and 26 were both 'filler worlds', that they never went to in the manga.
-In Koryo, Sakura was never 'possessed' by Chunhyang's mother like she was in the anime.
-In Outo, Oruha never came to Cat's Eye and made Sakura sing for her... Oruha and Sakura never met in the manga.
Also... Sakura never hears the feathers 'calling' her, like she does in the anime.
There are more... but those are the big ones I can think of at the moment.

I would definitely read the manga if you can! The anime is okay, but it cuts out so many good scenes and dialogue, especially the humor. And if you want to see the whole gang getting drunk (twice!) definitely read the manga. ^__^

A know some difference:

-  Sakura never wakes up in Hanshin in the manga.  So she never fly like she did in the anime.
-  In Outo Sakura don't disappear from that country with Shaoran like what happen in the anime.  She was sleep all the time so Kurogane carry her until they get to the country with the park. (I forgot the name right now))
-  Other thing in the country with the Park they didn't stay to finish with the demons.  After Seishirou left they did the same.  Not like in the anime that they stay and fight all the demons.

And there are others but right now I don't remember.  The thing is Sakura in the anime is having a more relevant participation helping to find her feathers.  But I still think that the manga is better.  In the anime left many things behind that are important to the develop of the story.

BE HAPPY!!!!!!!!!

you guys are forgetting the biggest difference of all!
Alcohol!

the gang got incredibly drunk in Outo! (and they got drunk in later worlds too. but we haven't gotten that far in the anime yet) well, okay, Syaoran Sakura and Fai got drunk. Kurogane had to send them off to bed. Looks like he can handle sake!

Edit: Oh, it was mentioned. eheh. ohwell. it deserves a post of its own. we've been deprived of the best scene ever! i wanted to see them get drunk, anime style! V_V

Yeah, that sucked, I really wanted to hear Daisuke Namikawa nyaa! ^_^
And CLAMP does seem to have a thing for getting their characters drunk.
They also like to make small bonus chapters showing themselves getting drunk at the
end of some of their manga. I think the CLAMP ladies like sake.

If I had to choose, I'd much rather read the manga than watch the anime.
The characters have so much more depth in their feelings and expressions. I like to
stay as pure to the real story as possible. So I would suggest reading the manga.
I think as it gets more involved, the anime could actually stray more.

Something that seemed pretty big to me that they left out is in the manga Touya is unconcious and severely wounded when Yukito decides to send Syaoran and Sakura off, and as far as I cna remember they never go back to Touya and Yuki in the anime, but they do cut back to them in the manga.

Yuki and Touya are two of my favourite characters ever in any story (anime or not), so that's the only change that really struck me.

Though I do like how they put them in more worlds than was originally in the manga, I think that's a nice touch. ^_^

There are quite a few changes, but I'm glad the anime stuck to the manga. Sometimes the anime helps me understand what they're saying/doing in the manga. hehe

But I was looking foward to seeing the whole gang getting drunk. Sadly they didn't add that :(
I think you should still read the manga. It can be funnier at times...or is it just me?

The manga is definitely funnier. The anime seems to take itself too seriously a lot of the time.

I've decided to pick up reading Tsubasa again.  Now that Funi has licensed the anime, unless somebody continues fansubbing the future episodes, I won't be able to watch the anime as much anymore, so I'm going to pick up reading Tsubasa again.  Since the manga doesn't seem to be drastically different from the anime, at least I know I won't be missing out much if I don't get to see the anime.  Thanks for the response, everyone.

yeah, I'm doing the same ^-^ because there are more things that are differentes between aniem and manga.. for example (i guess none posted it)

When Syao and the others where in Koryo they met again Sorata and Arashi but in the manga they didn't... because kurorin didn't gave the idea to organize a group and chun hyang didn't go to that place and talked with the people there...

also, when they go to the next world they did it before they met the amen-osa in the anime they met the amen-osa

Yeah, I really miss those scenes *laugh*

yeah, in anime they are littlebit those changes...

Nihon:
- When Kurogane were send away..that scene weren't that funny like in manga. In manga Souma and Tomoyo were laughing to Kurogane...it was funny scene XD

Hanshi:
- Kurogane were chasing Tomyo and then he met that yerk-gang who thinked that Kurogane were in Syaoran team X)

Koryo:
- that game were changed what Sakura were playing. In manga that was dice game (what they called Negi) and in anime Sakura were pulling kind of lever (bingo-machine-thingie).

Outo:
- Sakura met Touya and Yukito in that Cat's eye-cafe. This never happened in anime..
- Those informatics were firstly testing Kurogane's and Syaoran's strength before they wanted to give any facts.

okay, maybe not I should put these all difference here...there's so much.. in anime there's is so much differences (little and huges difference) than manga.. But I regommed choose manga than anime...
Life is out of here....

I think there are quite a few differences in the plot. Minor though. But it goes with everything. One thing I saw, but isn't a plot change, just a blunder (I hope...) was when we first say Fai and Chi. Chi said "Is she asleep."  :heh: I'm like. "She?... Last I checked Ashura was a guy..." that must have been translated wrong.

A difference is also in Clow Country because in the anime Sakura goes...in trance to the ruins like they called for her!
in the manga she only wanted to visit Syaoran and then she saw this sign!
