Tomoyo - Faithful Friend (I'm not sure about this one, but I read it somewhere)

Yume is dream, so you are right!
And that's how you pronounce Yokatta and Yukata.
Japanese is really easy to pronounce since the letters don't change sounds like English.
I don't usually have any trouble with pronounciation, just remembering vocabulary!
Here's some more I like!

Jitensha (bicycle)
Bento (box lunch)
Shiro (white)
Kuro (black)
Zutto (always)
ashita (tomorrow)
Yuki (snow)
Keki (cake)

I try to be certain before I post any words, but
if I'm wrong about anything, please let me know!
I also have a really nice Kana table that has a lot of the Hiragana and Katakana on it in case anyone is trying to learn those.
I'm trying to learn Hiragana, since that's the Japanese alphabet, and if you can read and write in Hiragana you could probably get by in Japan. I'll try for Kanji after I get some more of the Hiragana down!

Would people be interested in them?

In the system I'm making I'm planning on this layout:

Word | Pronucation | Meaning/Description

it wouldn't be a problem to add the Kanji & Hiragana aswell, so we have:

Word | Pronucation | Meaning/Description | Kanji | Hiragana

What do people think?

I always thought Tomoyo meant "good friend".
Seems like I read that somewhere.

Same here...as you can see from my list above. But apparently it means Plum Blossom....but I was really sure it emant Faithful Friend...sigh

Oh, and I was also wondering... what is the difference between 'Ai' and 'Koi' ?

And, also... when there is a word like 'Matte", with two of the same letter next to eachother, I know that you are sopposed to pronounce them both, but how? would it be like 'mat-tay' or mabye just 'mah-tay'

Your welcome.  ^^  Glad it helped.   The difference between "Koi" and "Ai" is that "Koi" is a love for the opposite sex, or a longing feeling for a particular person. Its possible to be described as "romantic love" or "passionate love."

While "Ai" has the same meaning as "Koi," it also has the definition of a general feeling of love. "Koi" can be selfish, but "ai" is a real love.  Hope that made any sense whatsoever.   :heh:

Matte is pronounced as "Mat-teh" or as I was told.  Yes, I realize I doubt my japanese skills a lot.  :shifty:  Its just...I don't wanna give you guys the wrong definitions and such.   :sweatdrop:

Doesn't koibito mean boyfriend? Because it features in a lot of shonen-ai....

Mhm...your right, it does.   But there is only a slight distiction between Kareshi and Koibito. Kareshii literaly means 'boyfriend' and this is the same as the western (US, etc) understanding i.e partner and not just a friend.

Young people are more like to use the kareshi word. Koibito is rarely used because it literally means 'love person' or simply 'lover'. In Japan they have a healthy attitide towards sex and its as a big deal than it is in the western world (USA,Canada etc).  :sweatdrop:

I think the kanji for Touya's name is actually Peach Arrow.

Wow, this thread is great.
Can't wait until the whole language section is up.
I'll probably use all my printer ink printing everything out!

You know how Yuki says his name like To-Ya? That's quite weird, because the japanese pronounce Touya like Toya anyway....so why does Yuki actually accentuate the hyphon? Is it just bcause its a nickname, or is there any background info from the jap lang?

Bother! I knew despair once....

But these are some other words that are kinda simialr...not sure if they're right though....

Makusu - defeat
Utaga - doubt
Uragir - betrayal

I hacked these out of some custom-made digimon names I found on the net, so they may eiether be incomplete, or have an extra vowel added to the edn...sorry

sometimes in writing instead of writing the 'u' which actually prolongs the vowel before it like Touya pronounced equals Tooya, people just write the '-' which means the same thing.. :) hope that made sense..
