Hyuu! i can't stop looking at your avi looks like i'll be going for kuro-pon now instead of Fai.. :hehe: just joking.. wow! if that's the case, you made me want to go to Japan again more & more! *shoot! if only we're not poor*

Oh.. sorry, this is an off-topic question.. everybody knows that math really isn't my thing. so i want to ask:

--- Quote from: Jeannette on April 14 2006, 01:51 am ---Actually, I see what you mean, but I disagree with your hypothesis. This is an Asian channel, the voice actors are Asian (even if they are speaking English), and it is meant for an Asian audience, and Kuroagne is quite clearly not African but Japanese. I don't see why the dubbers would be pay attention to the black/white racial tensions of the west. I don't even see why it would exactly be a big problem in the west either, since Fai is quite clearly refering to Kurogane's clothing and general aura, not his race. I certainly hope and believe racial relations have improved past the point where something like that would not cause a problem.

And 'Mr. Mysterious' is also childish. Fai isn't going for maturity, and isn't going for a real nickname someone might use; he is doing nothing but purposely annoying Kurogane. Any and all of his names for Kurogane are purposely childish, so I disagree with that part of your hypothesis too. This, to me, just seems like something they did for reasons known only to themselves.

--- End quote ---

Mr. Mysterious isn't all that bad to me. I can see Fai using it (kind of cute, actually ^^). And I don't see it as all that different, considering in Japanese Fai actually called him "kuroi no" (if my memory serves me, I didn't actually check but that's what I remember). Which I think is more like "the black one", or even "the dark one"... so I could see where "mysterious" could be derived. "Mr. Black" was Del Ray's way of getting it to flow with English dialogue.

Cutting the random Kuro-pii-pon-tan-myuu-etc nicknames makes me sad. Not that I'm ever going to watch this dub EVER, anyway, other than those two awful clips that are deleted from my computer now. After watching the full season in Japanese, those seiyuu have 'become' the characters for me, and I couldn't accept any other, however good or awful they may be. And this case seems to lean more toward the awful....

Robin Sena:
Hmm...

Not exactly 100% translated to the original script...

Next up is EP 5 and 6. I wonder how will they handle it. (Though... meh...)
