Topic: Favorite type of mecha anime? (Read 4411 times)

Like the title implies, which is your favorite? In case you aren't familiar with the Super Robot Taisen terminology, I've given a brief description of the two below.

Real Robots: These robots utilize technology that is common-place in their universe. Some examples of this are most of the Gundam series, Macross, etc.

Super Robots: These bad boys use unique technology, often alien or supernatural in nature. Some examples of this are GaoGaiGar, Getter Robo, Mazinger Z, any of the Yuusha robot shows, etc.

Yay for Real robots~! Although I like Gravion, I like Gundam Wing and Seed a lot more.

My fav mecha anime and my fav anime series of all time is Macross! It's not overly-political like the Gundam series, it has a lot of sci-fi stuff in it, but it also has the interesting love triangles, and lots of J-popish songs! Plus, the music is by Kanno Yoko-san and the series itself is created by Kawamori Shouji-san! The original series will always be my fav because it really draws me into its universe, it's one of the few anime series that make me scream at the TV whenever they kill off one of my fav characters, and I love Minmay (please don't hurt me)! Macross Plus was also cool mainly because Sharon Apple was a sexy antagonist and it had some of the coolest animation, not to mention an awesome storyline and Information High is an awesome song! Yay for seven straight minutes of J-pop sung in Engrish! Probably the only Macross anime I didn't like was the Macross 7 movie "The Galaxy Is Calling Me" because it made no sense to me at all and still doesn't.

I agree, Macross was pretty darn good. But I dunno, it just didn't click for me like random explosions and senseless violence do.

Yeah, that's interesting. I remember Evangelion winning all the surveys of what your favorite anime was that all the anime magazines and websites had, but I wonder how accurate it is now, though I do agree that Evangelion is probably the highest quality mecha series as of now.

Though, I think my personal favorite mecha series would one of the Gundam series like Wing, only because of personal taste, so I'll vote real because realistic robots are more interesting anyways. I thought Evangelion's storytelling was sophisticated, and I really loved its complex storyline, but it was kind of overly weird in a way especially parts of End of Evangelion.

plus you gotta remmember that Evangelion was made in 1995, TEN years ago and people today still love it, maybe because it was so different to everything else out at the time.

It's a shame that TV Tokyo forced Sega to cut Evangelions Budget tho..

Evangelion rocks! After watching the first episode, I already fell in love with it. It truly deserves the title best anime of all time

Gotta go with Macross on this one, especially Macross Plus.
There's some good ones in the Gundam series
I kind of like Eureka 7, still mixed feeling about still. I like the concept of there mechas though like the Nirvash typeZERO.
