Clothes, Sewing and Stuff
« on: August 05 2006, 07:13 am »
Heyaho!

I was wondering if there was anyone out there who also likes to sew or is a little fashion-obsessed. To make that sure, I'm NOT a chick who constantly has to go shopping and cares most about clothes, but I love Gothic Lolita fashion (which has nothing to do with paedophilia, mind you).

Well, I'm not really great at sewing but I've done some work up to the present. For once, I made myself a pencilcase (it's actually green but looks very grey in the pictures)

Then, I sewed a Sweet Lolita (one of the many Lolita styles) outfit including legwarmers, petticoat, skirt, bow and a mini-top hat. I don't have any pictures of me in the outfit yet but of the top hat. The rest of the outfit is made from the same fabric.

It was so much fun running through Düsseldorf (a big city near where I live, I met a few other lolitas to visit the Vivienne Westwood exponation) with a mini-top hat and dressed up so extraordinarily!

And now I'll soon be ordering clothes from F+F, a great lolita customizer (I hope that's the right word). I'm gonna order this: (everything in black and white, but the blouse may still be changed)

So... If there are any other people here who like lolita, clothes in general or sewing, come out and show yourself :keke:

Kyaaaa!!! I do, I do!! *waves arms about frantically*

I LOVE lolita fashion, but it looks odd on me... I look good in EGA clothing, though!

I wish I could sew.. My friend and I are going to start sewing together soon, though!!! : D Maybe I will be able to make something good!!

By the way, I LOVE fanplusfriend, and I also love cosmates.jp. Cosmates is more expensive, though.. TT__TT

EDIT: I forgot to say I love your top hat! XD It's adorable! How'd you make it? : D

I like lolita, and was tempted to buy some in Harajuku, but the ones I saw are so cosplayish- and seems to be only comfortable to be worn in cool weather(its warm all year round here). These seems to be more wearable. I especially like the first and last link. So cute!

Lolita doesn't look cosplayish at all if it's done right - then it only looks like a very eccentric fashion  And lolita is also wearable in not so cool places since you can also just wear a cute shirt and skirt, no problem.

I'd really appreciate this link! Aber mein Deutsch ist sehrrrr schlecht. >.>;; I need to overcome my fear of sewing.

I love the lolita style, though I'm too wimpy to actually wear it, and too poor to buy it in the first place. xDD I have been customising stuff for a while now though.

Was du grad gesagt hast, ist aber komplett fehlerfrei ^^ This is the link:

It has many goth clothes but also those everyone could wear and some that are lolita, though they are not that much yet.

xD Danke schon!

Does anybody have any tips on getting used to sewing machines? I'm a bit scared of them, due to an incident. >.> <.< Would hand-sewing be almost easier?

Thanks babypiggy for the set!! <3

Keine Ursache ^.^

Oh, that incident sounds unfortunate, sorry for you :( Well, maybe you could visit a course or something? Here in Germany, there are "Volkshochschulen" where you can take courses in languages, cooking, sewing, etc. Is there something like this in America or wherever you live?
Or does your mother or granny or aunt or anyone sew? Maybe they can help you and show you how to work with the machine.

Hand-sewing is a skill you should have when sewing, you can't sew everything with the machine, so hand-sewing is useful. My stitches aren't as strong as the machine's, only when I make really small stitches and that takes hours. Well, I'd recommend the sewing machine but if you're not comfortable with it and have patience, hand-sewing can be just as fine if you practise it.

I like to sew, but I can never find my needle *pout*. I want to sew a teddy bear and give it to this boy I like before the end of 8th grade, and ask him what he'll name it. I hope he names it after me... Anyways, I like to sew!
