What CLAMP said about the KxF Question!!

(Wasn't sure if this should be in the KxF topic, but I think is deserves it's own topic.)

Some of you may remember that a while back CLAMP attended an American convention, at which there was a Question and Answer panel.

One fan asked if anything would happen between Kurogane and Fai sometime in the manga (meaning in a romantic sense). There was a lot of confusion and conjecture surrounding CLAMP's reply to that. One very unreliable anti-KuroganexFai source online claimed that CLAMP had angrily told their fans that 'The pairing was all in their heads and that they were all completely deluded.'. Other Anti-KxF sources claimed that "CLAMP was confused and hadn't understood the question."

Those rumours were latched onto by anti-KxFs as conclusive proof that it was a couple that would never be. But of course, CLAMP would never have been so rude and direct to their loyal fans and recently, Satsuki  "Chipmunk Cheeks" Igarashi mentioned this question in her interview column  (re-printed & translated from the Japanese NewType in NewType USA)

It certainly disproves the 'CLAMP were angry at the question' and the 'CLAMP didn't understand the question' theories! Satsuki sounds far more amused and entertained than angry, and certainly she understood the question!

They were so vague, though... :X I remember everyone I was sitting near being annoyed with their answer. I suppose they didn't want to irritate anyone. But they were laughing, so... hehe.

I was in the very front row, but due to screaming, no one heard the answer, so no one knows. And I never saw anyone laughing. I only saw them whispering to each other.

From far away, whispering is easily misseen as giggling.

I don't think Clamp would have answered one way or the other, even if the screaming hadn't drowned them out. If I was writing a manga and I planned to have two characters hook up, I wouldn't give away a big plot point like that, and if I wasn't, then I wouldn't potentially risk losing fans by admitting that.

So while it's nice that we know they understood the question, the answer that they DID give still remains aggravatingly vague.

Oh I know they understood the question, there's no doubt I know they did...dont know where some fans got "they didnt understand" from...O_O ...from where I was sitting, it seems they were a bit surprised.

Plus, they were in a completely different country, I am sure that there is a certain amount of shock in the amount of yaoi fangirls in the United States if you have never experienced it

Well, anyone, KuroTomo, KuroFai, and any other fans alike will post anything to prove their point....the only truth is the ones who were actually there...and were actually close, of course, ppl wont believe others...so the basic thing....no one really knows....not til the very end.

Seriously though when has CLAMP ever given away plot points?  Of course they wouldn't answer the question.  It's easier to get Seishirou to admit he loves Subaru than it is to get information out of them.

Not just anti-KF fans, but also other fans...everyone, KF fans and KT fans alike, Im not saying any of you, but I meant some others.....like a quote I read somewhere.....they claim CLAMP said "do you desire this pairing?" ....but I just ask...how can they hear that if they were screaming? All I heard was screaming and I was right next to the speakers too.

I agree, I always said...wont be revealed to the end, since CLAMP always has a way to twist things around, even at the very end of the story.

Anyway, about the question, of course that one question will stick to mind....since it is the ones the fans had the most reaction with....

There was a lot of speculation on CLAMP's reply to that question. I linked to this article (kindly posted by Mela) because it completely disproves the main idea that was going round the Internet - that was that CLAMP had totally rubbished the KuroxFai pairing and told fans that they were delusional, which, of course, never happened! Also, it proves that CLAMP did understand the question.

CLAMP was never going to answer the question either way! Just as they wouldn't answer either way if someone had asked if Sakura and Syaoran would end up together at the end of the manga. CLAMP are notoriously ambiguous and they were never going to give away spoilers!!

I just found it amusing that the only panel question that she mentions in that interview was that one! And she seemed to get a kick out of the audience reaction!

I always wonder how much Clamp researches about their fans. XD Like, do they ever check out fansites? Look at fanart? Read fanfics? I guess they probably don't have time (or are scared of the bad fanart/fanfics), but they must be a little curious as to what the general thoughts of TRC's fans are. It's probably expected that they don't check out many English sites (and don't speak that much english as stated in Satsuki's column), so they probably didn't have a very good idea what the fans over here were interested in, compared to Japanese fans.

Admittedly, North American fans can be loud when it comes to their fandom. At conventions I've been to, yaoi is HUGE, and many fans are...not so reserved in stating that ^_^;;. You can't go to a Kingdom Hearts/Naruto/Tsubasa cosplay photoshoot without it turning into a mini Yaoi-con. In comparison to Japanese conventions, the fans here are very vocal and active in their yaoi-ness (even though that isn't really a word?). XD

So, Clamp comes over here, has no idea how the fans are going to react, and as soon as the Kurogane/Fai question comes up, everyone goes deaf from the cheering. They were probably taken aback at the time, and remember that question over the others for several reasons. Kuro/Fai seems to be a popular Japanese pairing, as well Korean (going by Satsuki's BL (boylove) comment in one of the other Chipmunk Cheeks articles), but on the opposite side of the planet, the fans feel the same way even if they are quite loud about it.

Umm.... I forgot what my point was. Sorry. XD I'm sure I had one when I started, but then I got sidetracked. Hopefully this is ontopic enough?

As I stated before, of course they would remember that one question because of all the fans screaming. I cant even remember the other questions because of all the quietness. And anyone would love to have a crowd of screaming fans at their feet...I know I would. ^^

Hmm, I don't think that CLAMP would directly answer this sort of question. This group just loves mysteries and I would be really suprised, if they changed their style...

Avoiding a direct answer is just like CLAMP. That's why most of people could think that they're confused.

This is sorta good, we, the KuroFai fans, know it's possible that they end up in something serious, however, they didn't say it's a 100% thing. It's just our fandom, for now. I really hope it turns big, that would really be great!

CLAMP wouldn't let their fans down... it doesn't sound like them, imo. They just left the speculations, so that we can still have fun with the manga. It's not like they'll spoil all the hints...  becuase then... it wouldn't be fun.

Anyhoo, I, at least, just got more into the ship thanks to this. ^_^
