i agree on the shocked syaoran thing. but i dont think she can see into that uch of the future and see sakura as her future daughter-in-law. lol. i think its more likely that she felt a the power in sakura. and that she had more potential and the power was stringer than syaoran's. so yelan predicted that sakura would overcome her rivla/love and become mistress of the cards. and well, it seems her prediction is true ^^

I love the character of Yelan. I think Syaoran was probably jealous that his mother was being so nice to Sakura when she's so cold and distant to him. As for why Yelan did it, I always thought that she knew that one day, Sakura would be her daughter-in-law and gave her a kiss to seal the deal. So one day, when Sakura's given the clan some heirs and Syaoran's teaching them the way of being a Li, and Sakura and Yelan are watching, it'll give Sakura a chance to turn to her and ask...

Umm..the daughter are about 16 - 20?I think, anyway.....

And Sakura commented on how young Yelan seemed...so maybe she's about 35-40? Judging from the daughters ages, though.

I don't know about Yelan's age or anything, but for the thing about the kiss, I always thought it was kind of like a greeting, like she kissed Sakura as a sign that she's welcomed in her home or something. And I agree that Shaoran was probably shocked that she treated Sakura so kindly, but I don't think it's just because Yelan treats Shaoran kind of coldy. I also think it has to do with the fact that Shaoran at this point still thinks of Sakura as someone with weaker magical powers as he hasn't quite yet realized his feelings for her, so he was also probably surprised Yelan would show respect to someone he thought was weak.

thats a really nice way of thinking about it. ^.^ not only that, but I believe that perhaps as other people have said, his mother shows affection in a way perhaps he had not seen from her before, maybe he is mad that his mother does what he wants to do? lol

I think that Syaoran's mother is thankful to Sakura for making Syaoran see that there is more to life than respect and catching cards, I think its a way of thanking Sakura for showing him love <3

You know how they say that boys look like their mothers and daughters look like their fathers.. well, then, how come Syaoran doesn't really have any likeness to his mother? Touya has dark hair, like his mother did. Sakura has her light honey hair, similar to her dad's. Apparently, Syaoran's father had a brownish-honey colored hair because look at all his sisters! But.. I'm just wondering about him. I guess I'm just odd like that.. c_c;

Syaoran resembles all his sisters, and I've always imagined Daddy Li to have a sort of auburn colour hair... Cause Syaoran's hair is aulburn (dark) and his sisters have a simular hair colour to Sakura, so that makes sense. Anyway, I agree that Syaoran probably got his personality from his father... But then again, where the hell did Xiefa, Feimei, Fuutie and Fanran get their personality from??? I kind of always wondered if Syaoran misses having a male role model or maybe he was very close with his father... So that's what made him so stubborn, his father's death.

When you consider that Wei, Syaoran's carer, is the only one whose shown him friendship... I think it's natural to look shocked to see his own mother kissing Sakura... Whom she's only known for 18 hours... lol! I don't think that Yelan shows Syaoran coldness, as she seems to feel her son's aura and things. I think she's just hard on him as he will be the Li Clan Leader one day and he has a lot to deal with.

I also think the kiss is Yelan's affection to Sakura as some one who will be her daughter-in-law one day. *fingers crossed*

There is one thing I've noticed in the series. I believe that during the time that Mizuki-sensei came was when Syaoran started to like Sakura, but he was confused between her and Yukito-san. But after seeing Yelan kiss Sakura, his feelings started to deepen. The snow card was right after the first movie, and even though Yukito-san gave her the watch, he offered to help her find it.

I think that by Yelan kissing Sakura, it showed that he was allowed to love her. I honestly believe that Yelan was the person who helped Syaoran with his feelings more than any other person on the show, even if they didn't dwell on it.

^WOW!! I never even though about that before, and it makes perfect sense.
She showed that there is something special about Sakura w/ that kiss. That she already has a bond with her in such a short time. When syaoran sees that his opinion of sakura must have changed. If even his calm and emotionless mother likes her, there really is something about her.
