1 – EDGE vs. ALBERTO DEL RIO
Edge stared down and advanced on Del Rio’s ring announcer, Ricardo Rodriguez, when Rodriguez got into the ring. A little left-over heat from last week. Once the bell rang, the fight immediately went to the outside of the ring. Edge had the advantage and kept things slow in the center of the ring. Edge went hard into the corner, then Edge was sent shoulder-first into the ring post. He ended up back on the outside, where this time, Del Rio was the aggressor. They went to break over 2:00 into the match.
Back with Del Rio holding Edge down in a top wrist-lock. Sunset flip by Edge for two. Del Rio used a unique maneuver to jam Edge’s arm into his knees. Del Rio sent Edge to ringside and rammed Edge’s arm into the barricade. He threw Edge into the ring, rolled over him, and got a two-count. Another arm-hold in the ring, and Edge was able to fight back. He put his head down though, and Del Rio caught him with a boot. However, he flew between the top and middle rope when Edge moved out of the way. Angrily, Del Rio hopped up to the apron, but Edge dropkicked him back down. This time, Edge came out to help him back in. He tried to go to the top, but Del Rio put a stop to that. Edge got the upper hand and headbutted Del Rio to the mat. Cross-body off the top caught Del Rio for a very near-fall. Flying forearm by Edge, then another. He got another close call on a pin. German suplex with a bridge by Del Rio for two. Big DDT by Edge for two, as they continued to go back-and-forth. Edge to the top again, but Del Rio climbed up and gave him a nice enziguiri. He’s a pro at that move already. Edge got his limb on the rope to break up the pin. Del Rio ran into a big boot and the fans could sense he was ready for a spear. As he set up, Nexus’s music hit, and they (sans Wade Barrett) charged the ring. They surrounded the ring, then attacked both men. No bell, but I’m sure it was a no contest.
WINNER: No Contest, at about 13:09 (no bell). A bit slow, but technically fine.
After Edge and Del Rio were quickly dispatched, David Otunga got the mic and said they were taking over. Big Show then walked out. He signaled someone else, and Rey Mysterio came out as well. Kane was next, which is an odd selection given his current main-event heel status. The three of them, along with Edge and Del Rio, got rid of Nexus in short order. Del Rio stayed on the apron, I think.
2 – DOLPH ZIGGLER vs. JTG
Ziggler cornered JTG immediately, as Striker said Vickie Guerrero better hope we don’t bring back Prohibition, or she’ll never get a date. JTG charged into the corner, but Ziggler got a boot up. Neck-breaker from Ziggler, and he got a two-count from it. JTG tried to fight back, and got back to his feet, then dropkicked Ziggler. Zig Zag by Ziggler…but he pulled JTG’s head up before getting a three-count. He then applied the sleeper hold, and referee Justin King called for the bell.
WINNER: Ziggler, at 2:17. Good win for Ziggler after a few highly-publicized losses to Daniel Bryan.
Kaitlyn ran to the ring after the match, presumably to congratulate Ziggler, but an even angrier-than-usual Guerrero came out with a mic. She asked Kaitlyn who she thinks she is, then slapped her hard, sending Kaitlyn to the ground. The ref had to restrain Vickie as Ziggler was visibly angry at what was taking place.
3 – MVP vs. “DASHING” CODY RHODES vs. DREW MCINTYRE – MATCH TO DETERMINE THE #1 CONTNEDER FOR THE INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE
MVP came out to new music. Five seconds into the match, Striker declared, “MVP looking good so far.” He did have McIntyre and Rhodes on their heels. Speaking of heels, the two in the match tried to work together a week after breaking up, in order to take out MVP. They seemed to form an alliance in taking MVP down. The winner here faces Ziggler for the belt next week. McIntyre turned first, back-dropping Rhodes out of the ring. He then slammed Rhodes on the steel ramp. Then, they went to break.
McIntyre was in control of MVP out of break, as they showed Rhodes continuing to convalesce on the outside. Rhodes snuck back into the ring to sneak attack MVP. Rhodes had MVP in a unique chin-lock on the mat. MVP got to his feet and gave Rhodes an electric chair. Mac got onto the apron, but Rhodes knocked him back down. Jackknife cover only got two. Ugly neck-breaker by Rhodes as MVP was between the middle and top rope. Rhodes attacked McIntyre on the outside, but took his time going to the top rope. Looked like he was going to jump onto McIntyre, but he ended up getting crotched. McIntyre had a look of evil intentions as he approached Rhodes. McIntyre suplexed Rhodes off the top, with an assist from MVP. MVP was the first to his feet, and he destroyed the former tag champs. It ended up being MVP and McIntyre in the ring. MVP hit the “ballin’” elbowdrop, then set up for his finisher. McIntyre countered and clotheslined MVP down. Mac went for his patented DDT, but Rhodes came off the ropes with a kick to the face. MVP threw Rhodes out of the ring and hit the drive-by kick on McIntyre. That got him the win.
WINNER: MVP, at 13:21. Pretty good three-way. Hopefully, this is going to start the rebuilding of MVP’s credibility.
4 – VICKIE GUERRERO vs. KAITLYN
Forearms by Kaitlyn to Vickie, and Vickie climbed to ringside and screamed as Cole and Striker checked on her. Cole pointed his finger at Kaitlyn and called her a “wench.” Vickie tried to do some warm-ups on the outside, but Kaitlyn jumped off the apron and onto Vickie. She sent Guerrero back into the ring. Stomp to the gut with Guerrero on the mat. Guerrero backed into the corner and looked like she was going to vomit. Instead, Kaitlyn bounced Vickie’s head off the buckle. Legdrop by Kaitlyn after she got Vickie out of the corner and went for a pin. With both on their knees. Vickie slapped Kaitlyn. She tried to slam Kaitlyn, but the rookie Diva fell on her pro and got a two-count. Vickie again went into the corner and Kaitlyn put a few shoulders into Vickie’s mid-section, of which Vickie didn’t sell. Kaitlyn got tripped up by Vickie, who rolled Kaitlyn up for the win (putting her feet on the ropes for extra leverage).
WINNER: Guerrero, at 3:08. About three minutes too long. Nothing after the match, either?
5 – CHRIS MASTERS vs. TYLER REKS
Short clothesline by Reks missed and Masters fired back with chops. He tossed Reks over the top rope. Grisham said this was a rematch from last week’s WWE Superstars show. On the apron, Reks whipped Masters into the steel ringpost. Masters fought out of a hold, and hit an inverted atomic drop. More chops, then a shoulder tackle. Whip into the buckle by Masters, then a corner splash. Big spinebuster for only two. He attempted to lock in the Masterlock, but Reks got out. He then landed his burning hammer finisher (as called by Striker) for the win.
WINNER: Reks, at 3:58. Masters got quite a bit of offense here, despite Grisham saying Reks “dominated.” I thought they’d give him a more dominating win.
6 – NEXUS vs. EDGE & KOFI KINGSTON & ALBERTO DEL RIO & THE BIG SHOW & KANE
Ironically, Kingston and McGillicutty started the match off, as the two were pro and rookie on NXT season two. Show tagged in soon after and chopped McGillicutty, then slammed him, all the while threatening to slap the red out of Heath Slater. McGillicutty was kept in the babyface corner, and Edge tagged in to do some damage. McGillicutty finally got a leg up on Edge, enough to tag in Justin Gabriel. He didn’t get much time to shine, as Edge put him down for a two-count. Husky Harris tagged in and pounded away on Edge with some awkward rights and lefts. Either he’s gotten fatter, or the tights are not doing him any favors. Running forearm from Harris for a two-count. Tag in to Slater, and he kept up the onslaught. Slater ended up getting pancaked by Edge, and both men were down. Show was able to make the tag in did some double-teaming with Kingston. Slater escaped before Kingston could do all the damage he had planned. All of a sudden, Del Rio was shown walking up the ramp, holding his head. Not sure what that was about, but they went to break.
Nexus was in control, thanks to Slater, out of break. Del Rio was gone and Kingston went to the top. High cross-body for two by Kofi. Kingston was distracted by Gabriel and McGillicutty, but he still managed to back-drop Slater out of the ring. Kingston flew over the top and onto four of the five Nexus members. Otunga was the exception. He provided another distraction, and Slater knocked Kingston off the apron and into the announce desk. Otunga finally tagged in and put the boots to Kingston in the corner. More tags from the Nexus crew, keeping the legal man fresh against Kingston. After several minutes, Gabriel and Kingston were both down. Kingston went to tag Edge, but Kane reached in and tagged himself in. He met Otunga in the ring, and knocked a few other Nexus guys off the apron. Clothesline off the top onto Otunga, as Kane then set for the chokeslam. He locked it in but the rest of Nexus interfered. Big Show took two of them out of the ring, but Kane then chokeslammed Show. Striker said Kane must’ve thought Show attacked him from behind. Edge tagged himself in and gave the Edge-O-Matic to Otunga. He went for a spear, but ran into a choke from Kane. Edge got out, and speared his partner, then Otunga.
WINNERS: Edge, Show, Kingston, Del Rio and Kane at 18:42.
They replayed a couple big moments at the end of the match. Kane was shown staggering up the ramp to end things.
