I've always had a passion for Japan, and grew up watching some of the dubbed *urgh* stuff on TV.

My daughter started watching anime and manga quite a while back, and got me into Cardcaptor Sakura and Sonic X. After that, I guess I just went manga/anime crazy.
Anime and Manga fulfills something in my soul I guess.
It's just something about the culture of Japan that speaks to me.

anime? I thought it was just cartoons at the start but then in the mornings they started to show Sailormoon on one of my favorite morning shows.. ^^ umm.. Agrro's Cartoon Connection..?? ^^ and after that after looking around on net I found out that it was an anime.. Of course.. after that I didn't reallyget to watch more because we were moving around so much .. but the first anime after coming back to australia that i watched was.. low and behold ... Cardcaptors! [yes the dubbed version -_-;;] It was pretty good but when i found out that the manga and the japanese version was bettef I started hating the dubbed version.. ^^ umm... ta da! :D

My friend's older brother gave me fansubs back when I was a wee little 7-year old. I was hooked.

Ani - I got started with sailormoon as well!

I remember watching dubbed Sailormoon, and my sister and I were making fun of it since the voice acting was AWFUL. The voices were all pitched WAYY too high, it was really awful!!  All the voice actors (except for Mamoru) were screeching.

buuut, we got hooked on the story anyway, and just kept the volume down to protect our ears. :D

And that was... lemme think, around 10 years ago..

I found out about anime through Sailor Moon.  I first saw it when I was on vacation in the Gulf Shores one year but I didn't know what it was at the time.  All I knew was that it was the strangest cartoon I had ever seen in my life.  Eventually I forgot about it later on in the day (I had watched it on the TV in the hotel room early in the morning while waiting to leave) until a summer later when USA Network started airing some TV show called Sailor Moon.  Out of curiosity, I checked out the first episode the day it premiered and was hooked ever since.  Eventually I realized that this was the weird show I had watched a year ago on vacation, so I did a search on the Internet for Sailor Moon and discovered it was Japanese animation.  I eventually learned about all the differences between the dub and Japanese version, then I started watching the original.  I also started watching other anime and collecting manga and I've been hooked ever since.  It's been eight years since then now.
When her leathery, crow-footed face turned towards my raised hand and said, “Yes, the boy in the Sailor Mercury t-shirt,” I sprung into action. It took me a brief 20 seconds to acquire the bokken (wooden sword) I had secured to the underside of our chairs with duct tape the night previous. Shouting “Japan BANZAIII!” in the manner of those noble kamikaze pilots from the War of United States Aggression (so tactlessly referred to in your history books as “World War II”), I charged the stage, bringing down the bokken forcefully onto the plywood table in front of Tiffany Grant. It was a tragic mistake not to channel my ki correctly. The bokken splintered into a thousand pieces, leaving me with no other plan of attack besides shouting, “You’re no Asuka!” as two Ohayocon toughs escorted me out of the room-SomethingAwful.com

My older cousins gve me the first volume of CCS out of the blue on my 10th birthday, and after changing schools , I saw some other girl reading manga, and we started reccomending other anime and manga to each other...

I love reading manga but my parents aren't that happy about it, for some reason

I liked things like Cardcaptors, Pokemon and Digimon...then I realised they were all from Japan! So when Ant and Dec (2 UK presenters) went to Japan, I fell in love with the country and started looking into other Japanese cartoons.

Most of my current fav anime I simply fell in love with from episode guides and character bios. (Naruto and Inuyasha for example)

As for manga...I bought the CCS and Yugioh ones at first to compare them to the programmes, and went on from there.

going a bit off topic, have YOU influenced anybody to be as obsessed over anime/manga? and how? i've been pushing CCS in the faces of my friends, and they're not showing any interest.

or maybe because they're around 30 already. :D

I had heard about this character called Sailor Moon.  One day, while shopping, I saw a little girl's pair of sneakers for sale, and it had Sailor Moon on it.  I thought, "There goes that Sailor Moon thing again.  WELL, during this time, Cartoon Network was showing Sailor Moon on TV, so one day I sat down to LOOK at it.  I was looking at " The Doom Tree" arch of Sailor Moon. But I realized that  the stories did not end in just 25 minutes.  They continued on and on... well, I was interested to find out what was going to happen the next day, and the day after that  until I learned that ANIME is not a "cartoon." Well, after I learned about Sailor Moon, CCS and others followed. Now,... I LOVE ANIME!!!!!
