Lets see, I love reading soo much! So here are my favorites:
-Ella Enchanted
-The Harry Potter Series
-Lotr
-All Sherlock Holme's stories
-Matilda
-Any Hercule Poirot story by agatha christie (especially Murder on the Orient Express)

But my all time favorite Agatha Christie book is And Then There were None or Ten Little Indians. It's the same book but goes under different titles. If you love murder mystery this is a must!!! Agatha Christie is one of the best!!

Yellow Raft in Blue Water (My teacher always called it Yellow Sponge in Bathtub, I'm guessing it's the cover page)
Of Mice and Man (I didn't really like the story because it's sad, but is still good piece)
Scarlet Letter
Heart of Darkness (This is a very odd book. If you want to understand what the author is trying to say, you have to read the book PRIMARILY for the imagery and symbols, not the plot, because each character/object/place represents something special, not telling how they are, though  )
I can tell you this, it is a darker incarnation of LOTF

I've heard from my friends that Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Dune are also good books to read (I'm not that big of a sci. fi. fan, though), Oh, when I was Sophomore, Firebird was a craze among some of my friends
LOTR & Harry Potter, I'm sure a lot of people are reading them now
When I have time, I'm gonna read Joy Luck Club, too. Anyone who has read this book, is it a good book?

Hmm... Here goes.

It goes without saying (yet I'm still saying it... ) that I worship the ground J. K. Rowling walks on. I was at the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. When I'm not haunting here, I'm probably immersing myself in Harry Potter.

I enjoy most of Orson Scott Card's books (though I find his belief that gay people should just **** it up and go into a straight marriage absolutely repulsive and ridiculous).

I also read the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, though I think that he goes more than a bit overboard in his constant insistence on proving how absolutely horrible socialism is. (Okay, okay, socialism=bad, we learned that lesson five books ago. Can we find some other theme now?)

I enjoy most of Mercedes Lackey's books as well, though I sometimes find her politics and philosophy over the top just like I find Card and Goodkind over the top in the opposite direction. (Sometimes she reads like a fanfic... I swear, one of her characters is a self-insert. Seriously.)

I adore Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte. (I don't like Emily Bronte nearly as well.)

Charles Dickens I usually like, though at times I can't read him without getting a headache. I also enjoy J.R.R. Tolkien.

Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchet are my heroes. Everyone needs to read them.

I LOVE Orson Scott Card.  Especially The Worthing Saga. And his homophobia is to be expected. He's Mormon (yay for being Mormon and so knowing all sorts of Mormon pop culture) and he likes to involve his religious beliefs in his text a lot. His Homecoming (I think that's what is was called...) series is pretty much one big allegory for the Book of Mormon.

I adore Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte. (I don't like Emily Bronte nearly as well.)

Ditto ditto ditto. Especially on the Charles Dickes, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Neil Gaiman things. Neil Gaiman rocks the hardness. I'm halfway through American Gods right now. Neverwhere and Coraline blew my mind.

I highly recommend Robert A. Heinlein. Especially Stranger in a Strange Land, though that book has some homophobia in it as well (though, on the whole, Heinleins books tend to be supportive of any form of love).

I about to start reading Memiors of a Geisha and I'm really excited! And after that I think I want to read The Lovely Bones. Just a while back I read Everything is Illuminated, and declare it one of the most well crafted novels of all time.

Yes, I know that his religious opinions are too be expected. It doesn't bother me enough to keep me from reading his books, so it's alright. And I loved 'The Homecoming' series; I've been meaning to read it again for a while. And... wow. You are the ONLY other person I've ever met who's actually -READ- 'The Worthing Saga.' It was really good, but it's all but unknown. Have you ever read 'The Songbird'? It's another of his really early books that almost nobody has read.

It's a good book, I'd recommend it if you looking for a book about human interaction. But it's pretty violent and some scenes in the book do get gory. But I managed to overlook that.

There's some morale behind the book as well, but you have to read into it to figure it out. A lot of people whom I've talked to like the book, so if you're up to it, give the book a shot.

I agree, I agree! I have read four of them, I've yet to read Mostly Harmless, but they are complete and utter genius! The Restaurant at the End of the Universe cracks me up every time!

I've recently started the Wheel of Time series. Has anyone else read them? Everyone who has recommended them to me has been a guy, strangely enough. They're pretty good, and they'll definitely satisfy your reading habits! It's strange how some 800 page books you can read in a day (or six hours. >.> Darn you HP6!!) but others can take you more than a week.

Oh my, what's the matter with me? About two days have passed without me having read a single page. No good, no good...
Anyway, I'd recommend you all to check on the Norwegian writer Jostein Gaarder; all his novels are sparkling with imagination and philosophy! He writes books for youngsters as well as adults, but the latter are far more deep and interesting, especially the one called Maya. I can guarantee that you will never be able to look upon Goya's "La Maya Desnuda" without a feeling of 'I know what really happened' after reading this book.

Now, this is an order: march straight to your local library and demand them to give you all they've got with Peter Pohl! Although I've never read the translated version of any of his books and thus can't answer for the quality of the text, this man is an absolutely f a n t a s t i c author, writing dark stuff about death, depression, bullying and the longing of escaping to a better world. After reading his debut novel (English title: 'Johnny, my friend') I just sat all apathetic of schock for about half an hour, and went around for two days thereafter only thinking about the book, like a sleepwalker. He is the one and only reason I ever visit the library's young adult section...

If you like fantasy, but has started to think that all books in that genre are exactly the same, with the same old boring black-and-white concept, I would recommend you to check on the works of R R Martin and Katharine Kerr ('A Song of Ice and Fire' and 'Deverry', respectively), who both write very good and non-stereotypic fantasy.

And last but not least, even though someone already recommended it: 'Howl's Moving Castle' by Dianna Wynne Jones. The movie is nice, but the novel is terrific! And a very good choice if you're feeling unmotivated to start with some nine-hundred-paged piece of work, or just have a lazy day off with nothing to do.

But I'd also like to recommend Stephen King's Dark Tower series. It's a brilliant, 7 book fantasy series, and it blew my breath away!
