Title: Question about Manga In General
Post by: totosquirt on July 27 2005, 11:46 pm
My friend owns a ton of manga so I reguarly borrow them. My friend says "Don't you bend it" and keeps on going on with good manga condition. Can anybody explain to me why people like to keep their manga in "good condition" and why people don't like it being wrecked? I don' t think that it is about sentimental  value...or it is?

If I bend the book at least a little just to see the text at the end of the page my friend goes nuts.  :cry: Please help

Because they are lending something that belongs to them to you.  They expect it to be exactly the same when you give it back to them.  You wouldn't like it if people wrecked the stuff you gave to them, would you?  No offense, but that's a pretty dumb question to ask.

Manga is very precious to the people to own them ... And above all expensive...

You want to keep it in as mint condidtion as possible - cauz when it goes out of print .. Its very valuble ..

Plus, a lot of people have to go to the trouble of ordering manga online, as a lot of series aren't sold in Western shops, especially. And like Hori said, the series can go out of print, so it's best to keep your manga in as good condition as possible.

A reason I react like that too is because manga is so different from ordinary books, it feels more special to me. So I want to protect it.

To most people (including myself) manga is precious and valuable, and when I say valuable I don't just mean money. Like Ruby Chan said, they aren't like any regular books, their special and hold high sentimental value to its owner. Besides, who would want to beat up and wreck their manga anyway? ^^;

my friend lends me a lot of things and don't care what condition they come back. but mangas, she treats differently. she wants it in good condition all the time.

:confused: can somebody explain this sentimental feeling?  :sweatdrop: like, is it the kind of sentimental feeling you get with, let's say your first lost tooth or your lucky baseball bat?  :okay: or is it sentimental as in you like the manga a lot that you like to keep it in mint so that you can appreciate it in its nice condition? hehe, this seems hard to explain this sentimental feeling   :sweatdrop: (well to me  :tongue3:)

Because the style is different from what you've experienced before with books. They're books with well drawn pictures telling a story, but refrain from being cheesy like most comic books. To me, I want to keep it in mint condition because I like it so much.

I can't really answer your question, because it's different for each person.

Ah! So it is different for each person? One might want to sell it in the future so they keep it in good condition while another keeps it mint because of their own personal reasons. I understand. Thanks :D
