Title: Book Recommendations?
Post by: Sohru-san on January 21 2006, 01:20 pm
I'm trying to expand my reading material a little bit more. Any recommendations for books? Please give a little description on what it's about and the rating. :)

Well, I was going to say we have a book thread however not one specifically for recommendations so I'll keep this thread open. Let's here some recommendations and why. If you want to discuss the books, please use the other thread on 'Books that you've read (non-manga)

Thank You.

Yosha! You want recommendations, I'll be more than happy to give them to you!

Little House Books by Laura Ingalls Wilder: These books are excellent. There are 9 complete books in the series; the titles:

Little House in the Big Woods
Little House on the Prairie
Farmer Boy
On the Banks of Plum Creek
By the Shores of Silver Lake
The Long Winter
Little Town on the Prairie
These Happy Golden Years
The First Four Years

It's an excellent series; the main character is Laura Ingalls (yes it's Laura Ingalls Wilder's autobiography) and it shows how she lives her life from age 5 all the way to becoming a mother. She learns perserverance, love, and determination all the while becoming a fine young woman.

I'll post more later.

I recommend you my favourites :okay:

Brida by Paulo Coelho: A not ordinary story about how an irish girl finds her Gift.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë: A classic book, dramatic and tragic story about how an  aristocrat family got lots of troubles since the arriving of a gipsy kid.

And any by Alexander Dumas, junior... he liked to write about the relation between men and women in that age.

When I remember more, I'll post later :sweatdrop:

How old are you?

Animal Farm from George Orwell. It's about animals that decide to live like humans but with the difference they try to live like in soviets (I think it was like that).
Paula from Isabel Allende it's a very nice story about the writer's live and how is she living through  the illness of her daughter. It's a very touching story.
The Phantom of the Opera it's a classic! (I can´t remember the name of the author...).

Well, for now this is all.

Memoirs of a Geisha - It's such an amazing book. Once you start reading it you can't put it down. The plot is so interesting and it makes you feel like your in another world. It's about a young girl who gets sold to a geisha house in the 1930s and learns to become a geisha.

You should really read that one.

In The Forest of the night By: Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Risika, a teenage vampire, wanders back in time to the year 1684 when, as a human, she died and was transformed against her will.
Demon in My View By:Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Seventeen-year-old Jessica Allodola discovers that the vampire world of her fiction is real when she develops relationships with an alluring vampire named Aubrey and the teenage witch who is trying to save Jessica from his clutches.
(I actually want to recommend all seven books by her, but these are the first two.)

The Chronicles of Narnia It's about kids going to another world. There's 7 books in total and the stories are mainly revolving around the world of Narnia. You'll meet characters such as Aslan the Lion and Jadis the White Witch. It's a good read...I think it's good on a rainy day when there's nothing else to do =P It's not REALLY addictive but it's a good read.

I seriousl reccomend the book "Twilight" by Stephenie Meyer. I just finished it, and loved every page. It's a romance/fantasy about a girl who falls in love with a vampire. Really believeable, for a work of fiction!
