Title: Fai...ou?
Post by: Ingenuine on November 01 2006, 05:29 pm
I just picked up TRC from the library and at the back it said, quote;

"Fai's motivation for visitng Yuko, the space-time witch, isn't entirely clear. Like Tomoyo, he is the ruler of his land of Seresu. " (<--Yes they did write celes like that =|).

Er..so...Ashura ISN'T the king? What? I could've sworn Fai called him Ashura-ou.

Also, in the begining as Fai gets out of the pool Chi says to him "Did you sleep? My king?"
-confused-.
Is it just bad translations or something?

It's a bad translation. Fai is not the king of Celes.

Yup. A mis-translation on Del Rey's part. Ashura's the king, and Fai refers to him as such.

I also got confused by that until I read that it was a mistranslation (on this forum) a couple of weeks ago. I think DelRey is good translators usually, but that thing about Fai being king was a big mistranslation.

Hm, that's what i thought. Hopefully they'll rectify this, though i don't think it'd really make much of a difference...except to those people who don't rely on scanlations from the internet.  Ironic that sometimes the people who are paid to translate manga are not as good as some of the fans.

Yes, and the dialoge between Fai and Chii at the beginning of the manga was badly tranlated too.

In the Del Rey version the conversation goes:
Chii (to Fai): "Did you sleep my King?"
Fai: "Yes, it's the only way I can."

In the fan translation (which we can now be sure is the more accurate) the conversation goes:
Chii (to Fai): "The King... Is he sleeping?"
Fai: "Yes, it's the only way."

The slight difference in wording between the two changes the tone of the entire (very lot-important) conversation.
