I'm looking for fans of this great anime! (And prob manga, I haven't checked)
Personally, I've only seen the first episode, but that was enough! I love it! Kenshin is so funny with his two personalities...serious and deadly/funny and clumsy!
What do you guys think?
(Just a note - some people may know it under Samurai X)
-
well.. for me, i did not really follow the anime.. just saw bits and pieces of it.. i always saw him being serious.. and he's cool!
-
I love when he makes those faces :D. When he's serious, it just turns so quiet.
-
Samurai X is teh OVA series name for it :D but its pretty cool, i love the whole Samurai Era. and its done really well in Rurouni Kenshin, Two Thumbs up !!
-
The first episode was very good, especially for an introductory episode - this actually jumped straight into the plot, and added humour to action. The only prob was, the vid I dowloaded had a very weird sounds....you could hear all the background music and sound effects clearly, but the voices were so quiet, I couldn't hear them at all.
I don't suppose it really mattered anyway...I was reading the subtitles, as it was in Japanese
-
i watched a very good quality of it on Winamp TV, they were showing Rurouni Kenshin episode 1 -> 10 and i only watched the first one. it was very good
-
I've seen all 95 episodes. The seires hit its peak in the 40's and 50's with Kenshin's battle with Lord Shishio, then kind of went down after that. The last story arc was IMO not well done and looked like the writer had enough with the series. I also currently own 14 of the mangas (U.S. release).
-
XD wow alot my frens is collecting the series so exactly how many bks are there in the series???

Not sure...the 14th book was just released in the U.S. and it's getting to Kenshin's battle with Shishio (a little over halfway through the anime series) so at this rate...probably 25/30 books at least. Good thing they come out pretty fast :)

With my elite skills of downloading scanlations, I can safely say that there are approximately 28 volumes.

So my estimation wasn't a bad guess
-
Lolz i thought it was lik gonna b lik the alot of bks but then again 28 bks is alot..u lik spend $280 on the whole series alone XD i feel sry for my fren she only has 5 bks so far but im ruiting for her anyways :hello2:
-
$7.95 a book x 28 = $222.60 (not counting tax or S&H)
Check out eBay...some books goes for as little as $4...and recently WaldenBooks (at least in my area) had a 'Buy 2 Get 1 Free" special on all mangas.

hehe..

so cute~
-
Lolz ^^ Kenji!! -_- i dunno y Kenshin could never look old when he is lik 40 years old...oh wells my mom is lik Kenshin...shes lik old but she looks lik shes in her 20's
-
Does he end up with the girl in the end then? I haven't seen past epi one yet....I haven't got enough space left to download them yet....
-
Indeed he does.
-
that explains the photo link i post earlier...
-
Kenshin is so cool, because he always tried to avoid killing people, and he despises his past - it's ncie how he wants to make up for it. Too many guys these days do bad stuff or good stuff...it's nice to have someone who's done both.
-
erm.. in the earlier manga or anime.. did they ever show the bad side of Kenshin?
-
really ? well most characters i like have done both, i guess i havn't seen many who have done either good or bad. most i seen do both. and that makes sense becase we all do good and bad things so it makes it more realistic and we kind of associate with the fact he's trying to make up for something terrible he has done in the past.
-
In the first episode of the anime, they showed a clip of him killing all the people, and wreathed his figure in flame...if that doesn't say bad boy....then I don't know what does.

.. uh ... i know, thats why i said that
-
Sorry, I was answering bluetopaz...I hadn't refreshed my page, so ur post didn't show up. One of the many reasons I like Kenshin is also that he doesn't boast about his skills - when he was locked up in the first epi for accidentally seeing the girl in the bath, he escaped without problem.
-
ah yes i remmember the first episode now, yea it was good. and for some reason that just reminded me of an episode of inuyasha when kagome got attacked by a huge guy who was controlled by some bird o.O
-

In the manga series, they did show flashbacks of his old Hitokiri Battosai days, as also in the anime.
-
'hitokiri battosai' is lone killer or lone ranger?
-
Hitokiri is what they called swordsmen who worked as assassins, I believe.
Battousai, as he reveals in the battle against that one dude who could paralyze people, represented his supreme mastery of Battou Jutsu(you know, when they start the attack with the blade still in the sheath).
At least, I believe that's correct.
-
Yup!!It is and he lives from after the end of Meiji era where the gov't in Japan is very terrible.BTW,I watched also RK even it is an English or Tagalog dubbed in my country and they shown 10 episodes in Monday-Wednesday-Friday only!!! :okay:
-
I think they made some OVAs out of these great series, and sold them on DVD under 'Samurai X', giving them corny names like Betrayal......which ruined the series in my opinion. They skipped loads of the plot.
By the way.....I watched a music vid, and Kenshin held a sword to a black haired girl's neck, and there was later a clip of her dying on the ground - she lifted her sword, and scarred Kenshin's cheek with that cross....
who was she?

its an OVA, NOT the series, i think the OVA was awesome, you have to watch it before you judge, and it's NOT the series, its an Original Video Animation. keep that in mind next time.

Watched majority of episodes before I got fed up and read summaries for the rest. The series is at its top during the Shishio and Juppongatana arch, then it goes down hill. I suggest watching it though to the end of the Shishio arch at the very least, its very addictive to watch (Up to episode 63) then just read summaries for the rest if you really are curious what happens at the end. One more things, Shinomori Aoshi rules!! :)

The Shishio arc was the highlight...the final two story arcs were just plain lousy IMO...it's almost like they were stretching for a storyline...

could it be that they were forced to (or were pleaded to) by the fans for more story so they just trued to make more stuff up but failed ?
-
That could be a possibility. The Christians trying to take over Japan wasn't too bad but the Black Knights arc wasn't great and the ending was horrible. The final story arc had to do with mystic stuff...dragon lines through the Earth and mind-control...felt out of place. My two cents...
-
Umm...about my other post....does anyone have any idea who the woman is?
-
Hmmm....I know her name and it was Tomoe 'cause I just read the summary of the OVA!! :okay:
-
I watched to whole series and the OVA. The series was great, except that the last episode was wierd, it looks like it was just tacked on, to avoid complaints that the series stopped. :haha: I didn't like the OVA at all, I think it was because I had seen the entire series first, so the change was unwelcome. :heh:
-
oh i didn't notice this thread was here! ack!! *bad star*
I love Kenshin! (he used to be my fav until i discoverd Fai!)
Sanosuke is cool!
I have seen only what they have shown here in the us (i taped most episodes) I have lots of the books (need to get more) I even painted Kenshin in art class! lol
(Wastsuki thank you for creating this awesome Manga)
-
Hmmm....I know her name and it was Tomoe 'cause I just read the summary of the OVA!! :okay:
Oh god, Tomoe... I liked her... she has much better personality than Kaoru-chan with that femme- fetale role she played...
For those who didn't watch the OVA, pleeeease watch the OVA, it tells you how Kenshin got his cross- scars...
-
I was wondering when somebody would start a page about kenshin or whether i should do it myself.
I love kenshin! I saw the whole series. I have yet to see the movies but i'm working on it. This was like my first anime ever show and it quickly became popular in my country. In fact it is with the release of Kenshin that anime shows on the whole became well known here. So I owe that show a lot, people here still think Kenshin when I say anime and I have a hard time convincing them that there are other anime shows. He is practically a legend here.
-
wow Jovi206 that is soo cool i get made fun of by my family for watching so much anime but i bought the series and i even got my dad to watch it he says that he 'likes that one about the guy with the backwards sword' lol it is soo funny because he can never remember the name of it so he calles it a bunch of weird things.
-
if i were u I would bye every single kenshin book right now. they are down with 2 book's to go. so go buy them right now. kenshin is going to end
-
I'm reading the manga too! But it is getting to it's end... 2 more books to go... TT_________TT It's a really interesting story I love how Watsuki mixed japanese history and fiction ^^ And the manga is sooooooooooooooooooo much better than the anime!!!! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!
-
u know rurouni kenshin is all based on a true story
-
"True" is a relative term. The history behind Rurouni Kenshin are based on ancient Japanese history. The characters themselves are also based in some though not wholly on real-life people. To say the entire storylines are based on a true story is false.
-
wow really
-
Kenshin himself was not a real person, but he was based on one, can't remember, but other Chara, Like those of Shinsengumi's Hajimi Tozshiro? are real.
-
wow. I thought saito's team was made up.
Kawakami Gensai (河上彦斎, 4 December 1834 - 13 January 1871), was an imperialist and one of the four great Hitokiri (lit. "man-slayer") of the Bakumatsu period of 19th century Japan, and fought against the Western-accommodating Tokugawa Shōgunate in order to restore the Emperor to power and force all foreigners from Japan. It is said that, at first glance, he could be mistaken for a girl or young boy, but that his nature was indeed the complete opposite. He was recorded as being a cold, disciplined, and calculating warrior. It was also said that he was the most lethal of the four Hitokiri.
Kawakami was a non-practicing Buddhist, but dedicated himself to its study heartily. His discipline was Kenjutsu. He studied the “lighting-fast” Furanui style, and used Shiranui-ryu. Kawakami was a loyalist and patriot of the Empire, who, at the time, were called the “Ishin Shishi” group. Because of these beliefs, and his personal strengths in the area of swordsmanship, he became a Hitokiri, or elite samurai assassin, who served the Emperor vehemently.
Kawakami was made more famous for cutting down Sakuma Shōzan, a prominent, pro-western Japanese politician in broad daylight. He was the presumed suspect for many other prominent assassinations, but nothing had ever been proven, and still remains a mystery even to date. After the Meiji restoration ended the era of the samurai, Kawakami taught samurai philosophy for a short time. However, his ideas about isolationism conflicted with those of the government. He was brought in on falsified charges, and executed in the fourth year of the Meiji era (1871).
The character Himura Kenshin from the anime and manga Rurouni Kenshin/Samurai X was loosely based on Kawakami.
-
Saito's his last name, now I remeber, yes his team was very real, and very deadly, You should see Peacemaker Kurogane, It has the Shinsengumi in it, and 90% are based off of real people in Japan.
-
yeah I know. it's too bad what happen's to kenshin and karou
-
With the OVA, I cryed my eyes out, I was happy for the Manga, and I love both endings, be it that everyone hated the OVA, I loved it, and the manga was, or at least felt like a ending that could be continued
-
I never thought I would like this show, since I had heard it was action/humour, a combination I usually dislike, but I have to admit, Kenshin as a character is utterly adorable! His voice actor does such a good job, especially with those cute oro's.
-
This show has everything, i really love it, but i hate kaoru with all my heart. i don't think that kenshin thinks of her in any romantic way.
-
Favorite character: Kenshin!
I love the genre: Humor/Action
Can't say anything more. Just...LOVE THE SHOW!!!
-
Fav. Character: Seijurou Hiko XDDD and Aoshi Shinomori!!!!
