I have to read Romeo & Juliet for Freshman year. I am very excited because I love History & Elizabethean England (as you probably guessed) is one of my favorite Eras.

This thread is to discuss, complain, ask for homework help about the works of who I consider a genius. I'll try to help you understand things so you can pass English.

What I want to read: Tempest, As You Like It, Macbeth, Henry V & the whole War of Roses.

Shakespeare in my opinon was a genius....one who i will never come to understand his wonderful-ness

I didn't like Hamlet but i like midsummer's night dream, and i saw the tempest which i thought was awsome!~

Midsummer's Night Dream is supposed to be good; that's the one with Puck right?

How was the Tempest? I read the "Brave New World" bit in a book on Mythology and am hooked to it.

yeah puck is my fave charater...cause he is love ....basically he is mostly why i like that play XD

oh and tempest was really good...but it also just might have been how it was preformed

its cool...trust me i have my obessions (everything CLAMP for example) its just they way he acts...basically his charater is what makes me fond of him

Midsummer Night's Dream was my absolute fave. I hate Hamlet and Macbeth though. I liked Romeo and Juliet, but right now I'm sick of it cause we held a play about it.

So far, except for some of his sonnets, I've only read Romeo and Juliet (a long time ago I might add, and I had a hard time understanding everything since English is not my first language and I had barely reached my teens at that time), and story-wise I did not like it very much - too much love-love, as Mokona would have said - but the way Shakespeare wrote sure is fantastic. Mercutio was my favourite character, not so much for the comic-relief but rather that he was the most sensible person in the whole play. Does anyone know how to pronounce his name, by the way? I keep wanting to call him [Merr-cute-ee-oh] but that does not sound quite... right.
I have been planning for ages to read Hamlet - as I think that play will prove to be more suited for my tastes - but I just keep finding so many other things I need to read first.

Other plays that are high on my Shakespearian to-read list are Much Ado About Nothing, Midsummer Night's Dream and Macbeth.

yeah for romeo and juliet my english class is supposed to read it...but considering our teacher, who usually plans to many books, and we don't get enough time..but if we read it then we would watch the movie version with Leo Decaprio and Claire Danes, and that version i wanna see cause of how it is more modern like...and i mean that just sounds amusing to me

Hamlet & Macbeth are trajedies, and I have heard that Othello is dense material aw well. I wouldn't mind reading, I fully understand how life is unfair. It's also nice to know it could be worse. Whenever you feel pessimistic,realise that your life is always going to be better than one of the "groundlings" at Shakepeare's performances.

Anyone like Wlliam's Histories? I love Plantagnet/Tudor England so it is natural. His Richard III though has mislead alot of people. He wasn't really deformed lthat bad, one shouldar was bigger than the other though.
My favorite Shakespeare lines:
All the world is a stage, and the men and women are merely players, with princes to direct, and monarchs to behold the swealtering scene!- Henry V, probably misquoted but this is from memory.

Side note, I found it amusing that red is both the color of the Montagues & the Autobots while purple is the color of both the Capulets and the Decepticons. Makes you wonder how much Shakespeare has influenced the Western world?

I'm studying 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' for my A Levels (British exam jargon) lol
I studied Romeo and Juliet for my GCSE's (more British Jargon)
and a few more lower down the school.

I find Shakespeare quite interesting now as you find out so much more beneath the surface of his work. He was so clever to capture the essence of real speech and not make it appear stylised. ^_^

Unfortunately some essays can be boring ^^; especially if its the 100th one you've written XDD

I like his Henry V the best now, Fair Kate is one of my favorite people. I love Queens.

I am at the begining of Act Two for Romeo & Juliet. How do you like Mercutio? And that Tybalt!

I did. I truly hated it. I was like WTF?! I understand that they wanted to make it interesting, but still! The only thing I liked about the whole movie was the ending song. In all actuality, that was the only reason I watched it

I live close to Stratford-Upon-Avon, the home town of Shakespeare and I taken a few pics outside Shakepeare's house (I will post the pictures here soon) I would have went inside his house, but it sucks that we have to pay and it's real expensive just to get a tour inside his house. Also I got a few pics of Shakepeares garden too ^^

I wasn't a big fan of Shakepeare. I remember doing Roneo and Juilet for my SAT's back at year 9 and it was abit of a problem for me as I don't understand Shakespeares lanuage much. "oh Romeo, oh Romeo, where art thou Romeo" or however it's spelt, means "why are you called Romeo?" or "why are you Romeo?" or something like that and at first I thought it meant "Where are you Romeo?"... I kinda felt like a baka back then >.<" Also the lanuage confuses me, "thee" means "you"

One of my favourites of Shakespeare has got to be The tamming of the shew (A wild cat for a wife), I use to like that lol

I love Shakespeare, I've only read Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, and some of his sonnets. His handle of the English language was genius, literature wouldn't be the same without him! Did you know he invented the word 'puke'? *nods*

I was in Stratford last year too Strawberry! It was really fascinating seeing where he lived and worked. He'd a really nice garden too. xDD

i just finished my final part of my project for that book. It was an okay book, but right before the end of eighth grade when I might have to read it again next year is not exactly the right time to read it.
