WWE Superstars Results: 6-7-12

1 - YOSHI TATSU vs. HUNICO

To start the match, Tatsu wants a quick trio of leverage pins, but none stick. Hunico gets some relief from the ropes. Tatsu continues the attack, but Hunico puts him into a turnbuckle and starts beating down Tatsu.

Tatsu is fighting out of hold and tries a crucifix pin back from break, but Hunico retains control of the match. Tatsu with a desperation suplex to get separation, then a big karate chop off the top rope for one. Chono Boot for a nearfall. Hard Shining Wizard for another nearfall. Hunico gets caught on the top rope, which allows Tatsu to land a huracarana from the top for a nearfall. Hunico with a butterfly suplex into a powerbomb for a nearfall, and the crowd goes nuts for the kick-out.

Tatsu with a rough sit-out powerslam. Tatsu gets the roundhouse to the head, but Camacho puts Hunico's boot on the rope. Tatsu misses the spinning heel kick from the top, and Hunico puts him down with a Samoan Drop and follows up with a Swanton Bomb for the win.

WINNER: Hunico in 9:20. This was an enjoyable match to watch live. I've always liked Hunico's work as well as Tatsu's. The crowd was really behind Tatsu, too. Hunico and Tatsu are great at getting a crowd warmed up, though I do wish that they could get more quality time.

2 - ALEX RILEY vs. JINDER MAHAL

Big "Riley" chant before the lock-up, which Mahal wins handily. Riley finally gets some traction using his speed, but Mahal crotches Riley four punches into Ten Punches in the corner, then he goes back to the attack. Riley kicks his way out of a corner, but eats a big boot to lose his steam again. Riley makes his full-blown comeback. Riley with a flying clothesline from the top for two. He looks for the Final Score, but Mahal grabs the ropes. Mahal counters with a jumping knee to the face and then locks in the Camel Clutch for the submission victory.

WINNER: Jinder Mahal in 5:00. Good work from both, and Riley knows how to involve the crowd. Mahal's character needs more than "foreigner" and his match formula needs some variety to it from match to match.

3 - ZACK RYDER vs. JACK SWAGGER

Ryder foolishly offers to lock up with the amateur wrestling champ, and Swagger shows him why it was a mistake. Swagger continues to use technical acumen to dominate, then Ryder with a pair of armdrags to turn it around. Swagger's size and power allows him to run Ryder down. Swagger has his trademark bloody mouth. Ryder comes back, but Swagger rolls out of the ring to avoid the Broski Boot. Ryder clears him from the ring and a springboard placha sends it to break.

Swagger fights out of an armbar coming out of the break. Swagger jumps up to meet Ryder up top and counters with a belly-to-belly. Ryder tries to build steam, but Swagger ducks under a running cross-body and Ryder bounces hard off the ropes. Swagger catches Ryder off the ropes, but Ryder transitions into a DDT and the ref starts a double count. Ryder controls after the reset. Broski Boot pulls a nearfall. Ryder escapes a gutwrench powerbomb, tries the Rough Ryder, but Swagger catches him and turns it into a powerbomb for the win.

WINNER: Jack Swagger in 12:15. Good match to re-establish Swagger and give fan-favorite Ryder some ring time. Ryder looked good for hanging in and taking a long beating. Swagger really needs to do something to reform his image, though, since he's had so many stop-and-start pushes, and he hasn't had any mic time to give his new hairdo any personality. Hey, isn't Zack Ryder owed a U.S. Championship re-match?

WWE Smackdown Results: 6-8-12

1 – ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. THE GREAT KHALI

The bell rang as soon as they returned from break. Hard chop to the head greeted Del Rio after he came off the ropes. Hard chop to the chest by Khali in the corner Big boot attempt by Khali missed and Del Rio kicked away at the leg. After working the big limb of Khali, Del Rio came off the second rope, only to be cut down with a chop to the chest. Khali signaled for the tree slam, but Rodriguez got on the apron. That distraction led to Del Rio bringing the arm down across his knee. Cross arm-breaker applied, and Khali tapped.

WINNER: Del Rio, at 3:23. Disappointing that Del Rio had to win via distraction; when was the last time Khali was relevant? Shouldn’t the challenger for the World Title be able to beat him cleanly?

2 – “FUNKASAURUS” BRODUS CLAY vs. DERRICK BATEMAN

Clay pounded away on Bateman in the corner, then tossed him through the ropes. Clay gave Bateman a running headbutt to the chest on the outside, then sent him over the barricade and into the ring announcer/timekeeper area. Back in the ring, Clay splashed Bateman in the corner and followed-up with an overhead suplex. Big splash finished Bateman.

WINNER: Clay, at 1:06. I guess Clay being more aggressive is the change that we’ll be seeing from Clay after the attack by Big Show. Something had to change, but I don’t know if this is enough.

3 – SIN CARA vs. DREW MCINTYRE

Mathews plugged Cara’s Facebook page. Like Bateman, “Whatever Happened To” Drew McIntyre got no entrance. McIntyre tried to draw first blood (not literally of course), but Cara used his unorthodox style (and many arm-drags!) to neutralize McIntyre. On the apron, Cara was sent up into the air and kicked in the gut, sending him to ringside. Back in the ring, Cara fought out of a rest-hold and McIntyre stomped Cara. Cara with a headscissors that sent McIntyre into the post. Handspring back elbow for two. McIntyre followed up with a big boot that Cara sold nicely. Couldn’t get the pin, though. Cara dove off the second rope into a side slam, but Cara countered. McIntyre readjusted his grip, but Cara again countered and hit his single-arm face-plant for the finish.

WINNER: Cara, at 3:16. Nice little match there. Saw a few unique moves from both men.

4 – TONY ANDRIOTIS & KEVIN MAHONEY vs. RYBACK – 2-ON-1 HANDICAP MATCH

Both jobbers were billed from Clemson, just to rile up the fans in the arena. The jobbers predicted they’d be the start of Ryback’s downfall. One of their last names sounds like a disease I wouldn’t want to catch. Cole did his own “mirror mirror on the wall” rhyme (as the jobbers did) where he cleverly rhymed “wall” with “wall.” One jobber was sent hard into the buckle, the other was given a fall-away slam right into the other. Ryback stacked them up in the corner and ran into them with a shoulder to the gut. He clotheslined one over the other, who was bent down behind him on his hands and knees. Hard powerbomb, then both were put on his back for his finisher and pinfall.

WINNER: Ryback, at 1:44. As I’ve said before, Ryback’s squashes themselves are entertaining, but I love seeing the different jobbers they bring out too.

5 – CHRISTIAN vs. DOLPH ZIGGLER

Rhodes joined the announce team. He said he’s asking for his rematch at No Way Out. Leapfrog by Christian into a face-plant. Cody said his Fave Five is a list of hypocrites and Booker is number one (after Cole said Booker put Cody at the one spot in his Fave Five of the week). It was a combination of great delivery and a great line for Cody. The two men fought outside the ring as they went to break at 1:30 of the match.

They returned at about the 5:00 mark. Ziggler with a dropkick to the mid-section for a two-count. He torqued the neck and arm of Christian, then peppered him with punches and kicks. Monkey-flip into the corner by Ziggler, then he rammed Christian’s back shoulder-first. Flip kick by Christian. He made his comeback by grabbing Ziggler on a fameasser attempt and powerbombing him. Both m en were down at 7:30, but Christian bog up first. Springboard sunset flip, but Dolph fired back with a fameasser for two. Spear attempt countered by a dropkick by Ziggler for two. Christian shrugged off a Zig Zag and went to the top. He knocked Ziggler off when Dolph tried to meet him on the top, and finished him with a frogsplash.

WINNER: Christian, at 9:34. Fun match – I could watch these guys wrestle each other all day. Rhodes was fantastic on commentary.

6 – JIMMY USO vs. ANTONIO CESARO

Long came to ringside to watch his Laurinaitis-appointed new favorite wrestler. Uso with a kick to the gut of Cesaro, then a double chop to the chest and a diving headbutt. Quick cover for only one. Splash in the corner by Uso, but Cesaro grabbed his nose on a bodyslam attempt. He sent Jimmy into the air and caught him with a European Uppercut on the way down. His finisher was hit, and the pin was academic.

WINNER: Cesaro, at :58. Felt like this was a match that may have gotten cut down due to the show perhaps running long.

7 – SHEAMUS vs. KANE

A long lock-up led to a stalemate in the corner. Sheamus had his elbow taped but Cole said he refused medical attention after the incident with Del Rio on Raw. The two traded right hands and Sheamus was able to get a brief advantage. Kane followed it up with a corner clothesline and an uppercut. Kane ran into a back elbow and Sheamus attacked the knee. Kane grabbed the champ by the throat and knocked him to the apron. Sheamus tried to get back in, but Kane booted him to the floor. They went to break 2:36 into the match.

Back at 6:21 of the match. Kane continued his offensive onslaught. Side-slam for a two-count. Sheamus worked out of a rear chinlock with shoulders to the bread-basket. He got his boots up on a corner charge from Kane and pulled himself up to the top rope. Flying shoulder tackle found the mark, but he couldn’t capitalize. High knee-lift, then a running Irish Hammer from Sheamus. Lateral press, but only a one-count at 8:51. Both men looked winded at this point. Kane came down off the shoulders of Sheamus and got in his low dropkick. Sheamus turned things around with an Irish Curse back-breaker at 10:00 even. Forearms to the chest with Kane on the apron. Kane blocked a suplex back in and brought Sheamus down throat-first over the top rope. Kane climbed to the top rope, but Sheamus stopped him. He tried to suplex Kane off but Kane blocked it. Sheamus was headbutted off the top and Kane missed the flying clothesline. The announcers noted that Kane tweaked his knee, and Sheamus hit White Noise. Sheamus got a disturbed look in his eye as he called for the Brogue Kick. Kane caught the boot and went for the chokeslam. Sheamus snuck out and the men collided with a double clothesline. Ricardo Rodriguez and Alberto Del Rio ran down for the DQ. Only Rodriguez made it into the ring, and he was quickly halted by Sheamus.

WINNER: Sheamus, via disqualification, at 12:57.

Del Rio looked on from the apron and as Kane was about to take advantage, A.J. skipped to ringside. Kane was frozen, staring at A.J. That allowed Sheamus to come to and Brogue Kick Kane. Then he did the same to Rodriguez as Del Rio looked on from the aisle. Mathews got in one last plug for Vince McMahon appearing on Raw and the special start time before they faded out.

TNA Slammiversary PPV Results: 6-10-12 (next two posts)

1 -- X Division champion AUSTIN ARIES vs. SAMOA JOE -- X Division Title match

Once the bell sounded, both men acted fired up to open the PPV before locking up and exchanging holds. The two men felt each other out before Joe slapped Aries across the face, then Aries came back with strikes that Joe no-sold. Aries then dropped Joe to the outside with a head scissors, but Joe destroyed Aries, who attempted a suicide dive. Joe played to an appreciative crowd before chopping Aries back in the ring. Awesome first two minutes. Joe followed with a big corner kick before washing Aries's face with his boot. Joe followed with a corner boot that missed Aries, but Aries sold like it connected.

Aries and Joe went back and forth countering each other's offense before resetting at 4:00. Another counter sequence saw Aries roll out of the way of an attempted elbow suicide dive before flying back into the ring to deliver a suicide dive to Joe back on the outside. "Aust-in Aries / Let's Go Joe" dueling chants picked up as the two men re-entered the ring with Aries in control. But, Joe countered a corner attack with a running sideslam for a close two count. Joe followed with knee lifts, then a sit-out powerbomb for a two count that he turned into a modified Boston Crab. Aries refused to tap, so Joe flowed into an STF mid-ring. Then, into a modified Rings of Saturn, which Aries countered into a quick roll-up for a two count.

The two men reset at 7:15 with Joe collecting himself while Aries sold in the corner. Joe followed up with rapid-fire headbutts, then wanted a top-rope superplex, but Aries headbutted Joe down to the mat. Aries then executed a top-rope 450 splash, but Joe kicked out of a pin in-time. The crowd popped for the nearfall as Aries sold shock. The two men re-engaged by trading bombs from their knees as the crowd picked up a dueling chant. Joe then avoided a discus clothesline and slapped on a sleeperhold. Joe then fell down to the mat with a rear-naked choke, which Aries countered into a bridge pin for a close two count.

Joe came back with a power throw out of the corner, then fired himself up. He wanted a top-rope Musclebuster, but Aries slipped out and landed elbow strikes into a sick crucifix throw. Aries followed with a running strike into a discus forearm smash that rocked Joe. Aries followed with a corner kick into the brainbuster center-ring. The crowd popped for Aries's feat of strength executing the brainbuster, then Aries made a cover for the pin and the win. Post-match: Taz said you won't find anything else more physical than that match in pro wrestling on PPV. They replayed high points from the match, then returned live to show Aries celebrating his victory as Joe sold the effects of the finish. Aries and Joe then came together center-ring and they fist-bumped as a show of respect. On the way, Aries said that's why he's the greatest.

WINNER: Aries at 11:48 to retain the X Division Title. Excellent, excellent opening match. Just great from start to finish with a hot crowd behind the action. Aries was able to continue his quest of successfully defeating big-man wrestlers and Joe got some of his mojo back working with the perfect opponent. A little longer and the match easily would have been four stars. (***1/2)

2 -- HERNANDEZ vs. KID KASH

Hernandez over-powered Kash early on before knocking him to the floor. Hernandez wanted to fly, but Kash walked away, as Taz equated Hernandez to Randy White of Cowboys fame. After dodging Hernandez's flying attack, Kash took control of the action back in the ring. Kash landed big chops to the chest to annoy Hernandez before executing some surprising high-flying offense on Hernandez that were borderline botches. Kash got cocky, though, and walked into a slingshot shoulder block from Hernandez.

Hernandez made a comeback with power offense before flying over the top rope with a missile splash. Hernandez then brought Kash back into the ring for the finish. After avoiding some desperation offense from Kash, Hernandez set up Kash center-ring to deliver a big top-rope splash. (TNA cut to a great camera shot over Hernandez's head as he landed the splash.) Hernandez then scored the pin for the win.

WINNER: Hernandez at 5:52. The chemistry was hit or miss throughout, and there was no back-story for why this match occurred, but a fine return for Hernandez. (*1/2)

3 -- TV champion DEVON & GARETT BISCHOFF vs. ROBBIE E. & ROB TERRY
 
Robbie went after Garett early on, but Bischoff came back with some basic wrestling holds. Robbie then scampered over to his corner to tag in Terry. Bischoff ducked a clothesline, then tried some kicks and strikes, but Terry no-sold and shoved him away. Bischoff tried some offense, but Terry continued to fling him away. Suddenly, Madison Rayne emerged on-stage looking completely different. The heels then cornered Bischoff and worked him over as Devon waited for a tag. The crowd reacted when Devon broke up a pin attempt on Bischoff as Madison smiled on-stage.
 
Bischoff eventually escaped Robbie and made a hot tag to Devon, who entered the match fired-up for his team. Devon cleared Robbie before knocking Robbie off the apron. Eventually, the match broke down with all four men in the ring. Bischoff then took Terry out of the ring, leaving Devon and Robbie in the ring. Devon then hit a big shoulder tackle on Robbie for the pin and the win. Post-match, Devon and Bischoff did a dance number before celebrating in the ring.
 
WINNER: Devon & Robbie at 5:56. The crowd was into Devon, but not Bischoff. Okay tag match. (*1/4)

4 -- JEFF HARDY vs. MR. ANDERSON vs. ROB VAN DAM -- #1 contender match to TNA World Title
 
The match started on a random note with Hardy attacking Van Dam out of nowhere. Some three-way spots ensued, including Hardy running off Anderson's back as Anderson sold on the mat to land a corner leg smash on RVD. Next was a Tower of Doom tease, but Anderson broke it up by flinging RVD to the outside and super-plexing Hardy. Van Dam tried to follow with a Five-Star Frogsplash out of nowhere, but both men moved out of the way and RVD ate the mat.
 
After a reset, all three men started landing moves on each other almost in video-game fashion without any flow. Someone needed to take control of the match. Van Dam slowed things down momentarily by working on his opponents one-by-one before they set up a three-way pin spot with dual nearfalls. Anderson came up the aggressor following the nearfalls and cleared RVD from the ring before scoring a nearfall on Hardy. Anderson then took the action to the outside, so Hardy decided to come off the top rope with a big splash onto both opponents.
 
Hardy and RVD returned to the ring, where Hardy nailed Whisper in the Wind for a close two count. Hardy then hit Twist of Fate that appeared to cause some neck whiplash for RVD. Hardy wanted to end it with a top-rope Swanton Bomb, and he connected, but Anderson pulled the ref away from the pin count. Anderson then cleared Hardy from the ring, dropped RVD with the Mic Check, and pinned Van Dam for the win. Anderson gets a title shot against Roode-Sting on Impact in four days.
 
WINNER: Anderson at 11:24 to become #1 contender. Good finish after some hit or miss three-way action in the tired three-way match formula. Anderson scoring the win was surprising, but a match-up against Roode or Sting feels the freshest out of the three individuals in the match. (**3/4)
 
5 -- "COWBOY" JAMES STORM vs. CRIMSON -- Open Challenge
 
Crimson tried to run at Storm once he hit the ring, but Storm blocked his attack and cleared Crimson to the outside. Storm continued to fight in his long jacket before slapping Crimson across the chest. Crimson then blind-sided Storm, who turned his back for a moment. Crimson ripped off Storm's jacket and choked him with it as the crowd chanted, "Let's Go Cowboy(s)." Storm then made his comeback, fired up the crowd, warmed up for a Last Call superkick, and connected. Storm with the pin for the win. And, Crimson's "streak" is over. Post-match, Storm celebrated with a beer as he soaked in the moment returning from his brief absence.
 
WINNER: Storm at 2:10. Good return for Storm as he gets back in the title quest springboarding off this victory. (n/a)

6 -- Knockouts champion GAIL KIM vs. MISS TESSMACHER -- Knockouts Title match
 
Miss Tessmacher, introduced as hailing "from the great State of Texas," came out next to challenge for the Knockouts Title. KO champ Gail Kim then came out to make her latest title defense. Back-and-forth early on before Gail dropped Tessmacher hard on the ropes to begin a sustained attack. Gail then got cocky when she continued to cut off Tessmacher's comebacks, which ultimately led to her demise when Tessmacher suddenly rolled up Gail out of nowhere for a quick three count. Tessmacher sold the moment as her hand was raised, while Gail sold shock over the sudden loss. Ringside: Christy Hemme brought in Tessmacher for an instant reaction to the title win. She called her win "truly epic" and proclaimed, "God Bless Texas."
 
WINNER: Tessmacher at 7:01 to capture KO Title. As Tenay foreshadowed, the "homestate advantage" storyline played out to end Gail's lengthy title run.

7 -- BULLY RAY vs. JOSEPH PARK -- Anything Goes Match
 
Park, still sporting glasses, wiped his forehead with a towel before slowly approaching Ray, who offered the first shot. Park then took off his glasses and re-approached Ray. Park swung and missed Ray, who easily ducked out of the way before asking Park if he's serious. Ray then slapped Park across the face before offering his chin again. Ray ducked two punches, then slapped Park across the top of his head.
 
Next, Ray offered to put his hands behind his back. Park took a loogie in the eye, then slaps to the face as Ray called him a coward. "Joseph, Joseph" chant from the crowd. Park then slapped Ray across the face to a big reaction after Ray missed with a corner attack. But, Park made TNA Babyface Mistake #1 turning to the hard camera to celebrate, prompting Ray to blind-side him. Park sold on the mat before Ray went on the attack to boos. The crowd then tried to get at Ray with a "New York sucks" chant, prompting Taz to wonder what happened to Southern hospitality. Ray retrieved a chair, but fell on the mat when Park kicked the ropes (because of the vibrations ). Park slowly picked up the chair, Ray begged off, Park turned his back, and Ray attacked him again.
 
Ray went on a sustained attack, including a chair shot across the back. On the outside, Ray teed off on Park with right hand strikes while he taunted the crowd. Back in the ring, Ray went for a butt bomb from the second rope, but Park avoided, then Hulked Up. Park fired off lefts and rights before Ray covered up. Park blew himself up, which Taz noted, before the two men kind of collided center-ring in a weird spot. Park then turned around and ate a boot to the face from Ray.
 
Ray turned his attention to a table underneath the ring, which Ray slid into the ring. Ray then pulled out a Kendo Stick and threatened ref Earl Hebner before setting up the table in the ring. A light "ECW" chant started up as Ray set up shop center-ring. Ray went for a Kendo Stick shot, but Park hit him in the gut with a lucky punch. Park then caned Ray across the head and kind of dove on top of Ray for a close two count. Park spit up drool before surveying the table in the ring. Park charged Ray, who elbowed Park in the face to knock him to the outside.
 
Park then rolled underneath the ring, disappearing from sight. Suddenly, Abyss emerged. They didn't show his face, and just focused on his trademark get-up from behind. Ray turned around, sold shock, and Abyss landed a chokeslam through the table. Abyss slid back underneath the ring, then Joseph Park re-emerged, selling that he did not know what was going on. Park then stumbled into the ring and covered a KO'ed Ray for the pin and the win. After the win, Park continued to sell shock as the announcers talked about how weird that was.
 
WINNER: Park/Abyss at 10:23. Well, that was...something. Ray was solid in his heel role walking the crowd through this odd match. But, the crowd didn't exactly play along with TNA trying to pull a fast one with the Abyss/Park switcheroo at the end.

8 -- TNA tag champions CHRISTOPHER DANIELS & KAZARIAN vs. KURT ANGLE & A.J. STYLES -- TNA Tag Title match
 
Daniels and Kaz cut off Styles once the bell sounded, then Styles engaged in a wrestling exchange with Kaz to clear him from the ring. The action then moved to the floor, where Styles nailed a high-flying move on Kaz. Angle then smashed Daniels on the outside, but it was out of camera view. Back in the ring, Styles tagged in Angle to a pop. Angle then went to work on the heels before tagging in Styles, who went back-and-forth with Kaz before Daniels provided a distraction. Kaz and Daniels then went to work on Styles as Angle paced on the ring apron.
 
Angle eventually tagged in at 8:00 and went nuts on Kaz and Daniels with suplexes and throws. Angle then set up for successive German Suplexes on Kaz, and used an assist from Styles to deliver a double third German on Kaz and Daniels. Angle then slapped on the Anklelock to Daniels, but Kaz broke it up. Styles and Kaz then tagged into the match, and Styles cleaned house. Angle then re-entered and all four men were involved at this point.
 
A series of sequences customary for a four-way match occurred before Styles and Daniels came together center-ring to trade headbutts and strikes. Daniels then landed an STO and wanted the BME, but Styles moved and Angle dropped Daniels with a German Suplex. Angle then went up top and landed a frogsplash on Kaz. He had the pin, but Daniels yanked the ref out of the ring. Styles then nailed Daniels on the outside with a springboard gainer splash. Back in the ring, Angle grappled Kaz and slapped on the Anklelock. Angle grapevined it, Kaz reached for the ropes, and reached again, but he had to tap out, giving Angle and Styles the title win. Ringside, Styles sold that he was stunned to have won as Angle kissed the mat to celebrate victory. They replayed big moments from the match before returning live to show the new tag champs getting their hands raised in victory.
 
WINNERS: Angle & Styles at 14:23 to capture the TNA Tag Titles. This looks like the "feel good moment" before the main event, unless there's another surprise title change in the main event. Solid semi-main event match. Angle and Styles are better as singles wrestlers, but they were still good here. (**3/4)

9 -- TNA World Hvt. champion BOBBY ROODE vs. STING -- TNA World Title match
 
Once the bell sounded, Roode slipped to the outside again to continue stalling. Sting then trapped him on the floor and ran Roode into the guardrail. Back in the ring, Sting landed successive blows to the mid-section, then face before hip-tossing Roode across the ring. Sting tried a second Scorpion Deathlock, but Roode slipped to the outside again. Sting tracked down Roode again and ran him into the ring steps this time. Roode eventually trapped Sting playing his cat & mouse game, and went on the attack. The crowd tried to rally behind Sting, who escaped a sleeperhold before slapping on a sleeperhold of his own. Roode back-dropped out of the hold, though, and both men sold on the mat.
 
Roode and Sting reset at 7:00 before the match moved to the top turnbuckle. Sting blocked Roode, then delivered a superplex. He wanted the Scorpion again, applied the hold, and sat down on Roode's back. Roode teased tapping out a few times, but reached the bottom rope for a desperation break. Roode quickly slipped out of the ring to sell the back before Sting ran him into the guardrail on the floor. Roode tried to run away to the back, but Sting dragged Roode down the ramp and back into the ring.
 
Once in the ring, Roode rolled out of the ring, where Sting met him with a Stinger Splash into the guardrail. The action moved to the broadcast table and the announcers cleared out while So Cal Val crawled away out of harm's way. Sting then slapped on the Scorpion Deathlock on the announce table, and Roode tapped out, but the ref noted to Sting that it has to be inside the ring. Sting released the hold, thinking he won the match.
 
During the confusion, Roode retrieved James Storm's left-over six-pack of beer. No one thought to remove it from ringside? Roode teased a bottle shot, but Sting stole it. The ref then took it away from Sting, but Roode pulled out another beer bottle and popped Sting across the forehead with it. The bottle didn't shatter like a gimmicked bottle, but broke into a few pieces. Roode then made a cover, the ref re-entered the ring and ignored the broken bottle in standard TNA Incompetent Refereeing fashion, and counted a three count for Roode.
 
WINNER: Roode at 10:54 to retain the TNA World Title. A typical TNA PPV main event with a tricks and short-cuts to get through a serviceable main event. If TNA wants to take the next step, improving their PPV main events is a Top 5 item to address. (**)

WWE RAW Results: 6-11-12 (next two posts)

Show starts with Laurinaitis trying to kick things off but Vince McMahon comes out and asks whether Johnny should be fired (gee...guess wht he crowd said?). Sheamus joined them, agreed with the crowd and got booked in a match with Alb...er...a...Tensai. McMahon ends up driving Johnny's scooter off the stage.

1 -- World Hvt. champion SHEAMUS vs. TENSAI -- non-title match

The two big men locked up center-ring as the vocal males chanted, "Albert," toward Tensai. They went back and forth before Sheamus clotheslined Tensai and himself over the top rope. Cole posed a bunch of questions to the audience leading to break.

Back from break, the two men were locked up center-ring again. The camera focused on Tensai's belly, which appeared to be covered by BBQ sauce. No wait, some big handprints from Sheamus's attack during the commercial. Tensai landed a big Vader Bomb out of the corner, but Sheamus kicked out in-time. Sheamus then made a comeback with power offense before delivering ten big forearm smashes as Tensai hung on the ring apron.

Sheamus tried to follow with a top-rope move, but Tensai countered with a two-hand bomb for a two count. Tensai followed up with a kneelift, but walked right into a Brogue Kick off the ropes. Sheamus made the cover for the win. Post-match: The camera focused on some blood on the bridge of Sheamus's nose. After a replay of the high points and finish, Sheamus was shown celebrating the win as the announcers said they were impressed by the match.

WINNER: Sheamus at 9:20. Sheamus was solid in victory, and at least Tensai wasn't bad.

McMahon siting: Tells Johnny Strike one. Teddy Long suggests a 4-way match to fill Del Rio's spot against Sheamus in No Way Out. Johnny takes credit for the idea.

2 -- U.S. champion SANTINO & Divas champion LAYLA vs. BETH PHOENIX & RICARDO RODRIGUEZ

The Divas started the match, and Ricardo got involved for a comedy spot. Ricardo tagged in after Beth decked Layla, then Santino automatically entered, so Ricardo ran away and tagged in Beth again. Santino had to leave, then Beth and Layla engaged in a standard Divas match while Santino played games with Ricardo ringside. Beth then took out Layla at the knee before hitting the Glam Slam for the win.

Post-match: Santino checked on Layla while politely applauding his former squeeze, Beth. Ricardo started doing a victory dance, acting as if he won the match. Santino had enough and ripped off his tuxedo to reveal a Justin Bieber t-shirt. Santino had a big laugh, then Ricardo ran out of the ring selling embarrassment.

WINNERS: Beth & Ricardo at 2:55. Comedy mixed with a basic set-up for a probable Divas Title re-match since Beth and Layla seem to be the only women in the division these days.

McMahon siting: Otunga tries to kiss up to Vince. Kofi's irate that Big Show KO'ed Truth and wants him. Johnny says you got him...in a steel cage. Vince approves.

-Bryan, Punk and Kane get into a argument, A.J. tries to get into the middle ofthings, Johnny makes a tag team match: Bryan and Kane vs Punk and A.J.

3 -- IC champion CHRISTIAN vs. GREAT KHALI vs. JACK SWAGGER vs. DOLPH ZIGGLER -- #1 contender four-way elimination match to World Title

Khali teed off on Vickie's clients early on as Cole and Lawler debated whether this match was Laurinaitis's or Teddy Long's idea. After Khali awkwardly landed more offense, the other three wrestlers ganged up on Khali to score a simultaneous pinfall. Khali rolled out of the ring as Christian sold an ankle injury before they cut to break.

Back live, Cole was swift to falsely complement Laurinaitis on booking the match, prompting more debate over which non-wrestler booked this match while the remaining wrestlers competed in the ring. Vickie got involved from the outside by slapping Christian, drawing a reprimand from referee Mike Chioda. Christian then back-dropped Dolph over the top rope to the floor before landing a flying European Uppercut on Swagger. Suddenly, Ziggler snuck up behind Christian for a close two count on a roll-up. After Christian knocked Ziggler to the outside, Christian and Swagger engaged in a rapid-fire exchange with counters and reversals. Christian managed to avoid the anklelock before hitting the Killswitch. Ziggler then snuck back into the ring and pinned Swagger, which drew a mixed reaction from Vickie.

So, it's Ziggler vs. Christian. Ziggler tried to celebrate with Vickie, which allowed Christian to sneak in for a quick pin attempt, but only for a two count. Ziggler then went to work on Christian's injured ankle before Christian flung him away and landed a back-elbow smash. Ziggler suddenly came back with a sleeper, but Christian escaped and backed away to the corner looking for a Spear. But, Christian's ankle wouldn't allow him to run. Christian then slingshot Ziggler into the turnbuckle and nailed the Spear before making a cover for a close two count only that popped the crowd.

Christian called for the end, but Ziggler blocked and hit the Fameasser for a close two count. Lawler said it's a great match Long has come up with tonight. Ziggler wanted the Zig-Zag, but Christian slipped out and hit a reverse DDT for another nearfall. Christian then hobbled over to the corner, bantered with Vickie, and missed with a top-rope move. Christian sold his ankle going out, allowing Ziggler to drop Christian with the Zig-Zag for the pin and the win.

Post-match: Ziggler and Vickie celebrated, then headed up the entrance ramp where World Hvt. champion Sheamus was waiting. Ziggler turned around and didn't back down from Sheamus, who held up his title belt in the air to give Ziggler a good look at what's on the line Sunday.

WINNER: Ziggler at 12:20 to become #1 contender. Two excellent sequences involving Christian & Swagger, then Christian & Ziggler at the end. Ziggler looks ready for the big-time, and it was interesting not to see Cody Rhodes involved before his IC Title challenge against Christian on Sunday. (**1/2)

McMahon siting: Natalya chats with Vince, Brodus Clay's dancers get funky with Vinnie and Ryder is surprised. WOO-WOO-WOO! YOU KNOW IT!

4 -- RYBACK vs. WILLARD FILLMORE & RUTHERFORD HAYES

The vocal males chanted, "Goldberg," as Ryback dismantled the presidentially-inspired enhancement talent. Cole inserted a presidential pun, then noted P.S. Hayes won't be doing too much moon-walking. The "Goldberg" chants picked up a bit as Ryback set up for a double Samoan Drop on the jobbers for a pin and the win. WWE went to a replay nearly as long as the match before returning live to show Ryback on-stage demanding to be fed more.

WINNER: Ryback at 1:32.

McMahon siting: Vince and Hornswoggle mocking Jim Ross, John Cena enters the picture, a very brief cameo of William Regal.

5 -- BIG SHOW vs. WWE tag champion KOFI KINGSTON -- steel cage match

Big Show dismantled Kofi after Kofi's initial burst, then began toying with him. Show screamed at the fans through the cage, asking if he should entertain him. Show landed a move, then stared at the fans some more as they chanted, "You Suck." Show went back to staring at the fans as Kofi continued to sell in the corner. Show whipped Kofi across the ring to the corner before screaming at the audience that they can't stop him.

Show then tried a corner splash, but Kofi blocked, only to fly into a choke-throw into the cage. Kofi tried to run away climbing the cage, then suddenly jumped over Show to land Trouble in Paradise. Show chest-pressed out of a pin attempt at two, though, then Kofi tried to run out of the cage, but Show grabbed him by the legs to drag him back into the cage. Show then landed a big knockout blow and stood over Kofi.

Show stared into the crowd, which booed him loudly. Kofi continued to sell unconsciousness in the ring as Show just walked around the cage telling the audience that no one can stop him. Ref Armstrong waved his arms while checking on Kofi, indicating Kofi is out cold. Show then walked out of the cage and stood on the ring steps before doing a balancing act to taunt the fans. Show placed both feet on the floor to win, then casually kept on walking toward the back. Cole wondered if anyone can stop Big Show. He then stopped on-stage and did Cena's hand-wave before leaving. Backstage: Laurinaitis was all-smiles watching Big Show's domination as Kingston was tended to by medics.

WINNER: Show via escape at 7:22. More domination for Show, but it still feels like they haven't connected the Cena and Show stories together to offer that compelling reason to order the PPV on Sunday. When the announcers offer up so many empty phrases and hyperbole and noise throughout each show, Cole's words come across empty and hollow trying to sell a PPV main event.

6 -- SIN CARA vs. CURT HAWKINS

The mood lighting turned on, which made this match look like a Skittles commercial with blue lights, Cara's red tights, and Hawkins wearing new bright, neon green tights. Cara knocked Hawkins to the outside, then landed a flying plancha press. Hawkins returned the favor yanking Cara to the outside before mocking Cara. Back in the ring, Cara cut off Hawkins and landed successive high-flying moves before landing a flying armdrag. Both men appeared blown-up before Cara landed a head scissors single-arm DDT for the pin and the win. Cole said he can't wait to see more from Cara in the weeks to come.

WINNER: Sin Cara at 2:29. Until WWE comes up with an actual program for Cara, his role is pretty clear as an in-between-match guy to provide athleticism on the show, but not much more than that.

McMahon siting: McMahon confronts Daniel Bryan,ried comparing themselves to one another...Vince mentions he's never finished anything in 18 seconds and walked off.

7 -- VADER vs. HEATH SLATER

The crowd, which popped for the nostalgia return during ring intros, chanted "Let's Go Vader" as Vader frustrated Slater early on. Cole relayed a story about the first rib ever played on him in WWE when McMahon told him to put on Vader's mask. Vader beat down Slater before using his gut to cut off Slater's comeback. The fans chanted for a Vader Bomb before Vader scoop-slammed Slater in the corner. Vader then climbed to the second rope and delivered a big Vader Bomb. Pin and the win for Vader Time.

WINNER: Vader at 3:16.

8 -- WWE champion C.M. PUNK & A.J. vs. DANIEL BRYAN & KANE

Kane and Bryan took turns working over Punk early on as A.J. stood tentatively on the ring apron. Bryan landed Yes! Kicks before taunting A.J. as she stood on the ring apron. Punk came back with a powerslam before climbing up top, where he missed with a Macho Man elbow drop. Bryan then tagged in Kane as Punk teased tagging in A.J. before stopping short. Punk returned to face Kane, who slammed him into the corner, where Punk accidentally tagged A.J. The ref said it was a legal tag, then A.J. slowly walked into the ring and flashed a smile toward Kane. A.J. backed away, then skipped around Kane. "I'm very confused right now," Lawler said. Kane turned around, then A.J. suddenly hopped into Kane's arm and planted a big kiss on him. Kane maintained the embrace as the ref stood stunned in the corner. "Yes! Yes! Yes!" chant from the vocal males.

WWE went to a wide-shot to reveal Punk slowly reaching the corner ring steps selling disbelief over this. Kane eventually just walked over to Bryan and tagged him into the match before leaving the match. Bryan smirked and tried to go after A.J., but A.J. ran toward Punk, who tagged into the match and smashed Bryan. Punk then hit a top-rope Macho Man elbow drop for the pin and the win.

Post-match: The males stood still trying to figure out what just happened as A.J. sat down in the ring cross-legged a la Punk rocking back and forth. Kane stood on the ramp with hands-on-hips, Punk tried to do the math on what happened, and Bryan acted stunned ringside recovering from the finish.

WINNERS: Punk & A.J. at 4:58. This did not feel come across like the final hype for a WWE Title match on PPV, but WWE is treating the PPV like filler, so it was fitting WWE focused on the TV story centered on A.J. It's also partly a product of the WWE Title being complete de-valued.

Final segment: Not much to say that wasn't too predictible: McMahon calls Laurinaitis to the ring...is ready to fire him, Big Show comes out to defend him. John Cena then comes out. Show and Cena get into it...whoops! Big Show knocks out Vince by accident (too bad the punch missed him by a mile!). Laurinaitis calls Big Show away...Cena shows shock...fade to black.

WWE NXT Results: 6-13-12

1 - PERCY WATSON & DERRICK BATEMAN vs. CURT HAWKINS & TYLER REKS - Tag Team Match

Hawkins and Reks have bright neon green ring gear, which Regal says is a tribute to the Dynamic Dudes, and "People Power" t-shirts are also in Johnny Laurinaitis's honor.

Bateman and Hawkins start things off with a struggle for control. Hawkins kips up and Bateman launches a dropkick to Hawkins's stomach in return. Bateman exudes confidence as Reks tags in. Big boos for Reks, who then looks like he's going to cry when Bateman chops him. Watson and Bateman keep Reks isolated as Hawkins mouths off from the corner. Hawkins finally gets the tag and now Bateman is on the receiving end of a beating. Jawbreaker from Bateman lets him tag in Watson, who takes out both Reks and Hawkins and sends Bateman in to execute a suicide dive.

Watson is controlling Hawkins, but Reks distracts him so Hawkins can take him down. Watson takes a good stretch of abuse. Josh Mathews reminds viewers that the "New NXT" is arriving next week, without mention of where or when fans can watch it. Desperation enziguri and encouragement from Bateman lets Watson finally make a tag. Bateman unleashes on Reks and keeps Hawkins out of the game. Bateman with a running neckbreaker for a nearfall. The crowd is really enjoying this. The ref gets distracted and Reks takes advantage of Hawkins's interference to land the Burning Hammer and pin Bateman.

WINNERS: Reks & Hawkins in 11:20. Decent match, but some of the extended beat downs dragged it down a bit. I was happy to hear the crowd get involved in the match.

2 - KAITLYN vs. NATALYA

Natalya is continuing her new outfit, with some variations - lots of sparkly pink now. Natalya easily shows Kaitlyn who is boss with a take down, and Natalya responds with an armdrag, Natalya is incensed. Kaitlyn with a jackknife and Natalya bridges out and transitions into a backslide. Natalya says, "I hate you!" to Kaitlyn. The crowd isn't sure who to boo or cheer here. Natalya sits on Kaitlyn to cover her, and Kaitlyn kicks out so hard that Natalya goes flying. Nice sequence with a bow and arrow submission move from Natalya. Kaitlyn continues to try various leverage pins, then Natalya rams Kaitlyn hard into the turnbuckles. Kaitlyn tries a pin with her feet on the ropes, but the ref sees it. There's a couple of reversed roll-throughs and Kaitlyn ends up with the win.

WINNER: Kaitlyn in 5:15. I liked the story they were telling in the ring (the veteran Natalya having difficulty with the young upstart Kaitlyn, and getting more frustrated and using dirty tricks to win out of desperation), but a couple of the sequences didn't flow quite right. Still, it's better than the "Divas match" from Raw, right?

3 - THE USOS vs. JOHNNY CURTIS vs. MICHAEL MCGILLICUTTY - Tag Team Match

Jimmy and McGillicutty start the match. McGillicutty is quite arrogant, but he hurts himself headbutting Jimmy, which is pretty funny. Regal insinuates that Curtis goes to S&M clubs and asks if Mathews goes with him. Curtis tries to rip Jey's nose off, but Jey responds by nearly choking him out. McGillicutty takes out Jey from the outside, letting Curtis bring him to the corner for isolation.

McGillicutty has Jey's leg grapevined. Jey is desperate for a tag, but Curtis cuts him off. Jey is finally able to get the space needed for a tag, and Jimmy goes on hard, high-speed offense. Jimmy shows incredible fire in his attack. McGillicutty gets a Saito suplex to show Jimmy down. Tag is made, and the Usos land the Alley Use tag team Samoan Drop. Jey looks to cover McGillicutty, and Curtis lands a top-rope leg drop that goes more than halfway across the ring. Jimmy superkicks Curtis off the apron. McGillicutty misses the Turning Heads neckbreaker, allowing Jimmy to nail McGillicutty with a superkick and Jey hit the Superfly Splash for the win.

Josh Mathews signs off encouraging viewers to catch the New NXT next week. I hope so!

Winners: The Usos in 11:20. William Regal ends the match (and the season of NXT) begging the WWE higher-ups to give the audience more of this, and I concur. There were a lot of great spots here, including the Alley-Us Samoan Drop (one of my favorite moves in WWE) and Curtis's top-rope leg drop is downright impressive to see. The action broke down in a logical manner at the end.

TNA Impact Wrestling Results: 6-14-12

1 -- X Division champion AUSTIN ARIES vs. CHRIS SABIN vs. ZEMA ION -- Ultimate X match for X Division Title

As the bell sounded, the announcers hyped Aries conquering Samoa Joe at Slammiversary on Sunday. The match started with Sabin and Aries clearing Ion from the ring before engaging in a mid-ring back-and-forth. Ion then tried to sneak into the ring, but Sabin cut him off. Tenay noted Sabin is the veteran of this match, claiming Sabin has appeared in 15 Ultimate X bouts. All three men became involved as the announcers plugged the BFG Series starting tonight. Aries then cleared the ring and Sabin sold a left knee injury, which isn't good, even if he's selling. Aries followed with a double suicide dive, then ran around the ring to celebrate as the ref chased him down to offer some instructions.

Back in the ring, Aries and Ion had a mid-ring exchange while Sabin continued to sell ringside. Sabin then slid into the ring and hobbled over to Aries to deck him before rolling out of the ring again. Sabin disappeared ringside as Aries and Ion resumed an exchange on the top turnbuckle, which led to Ion sliding down one of the trusses holding up the structure. Ion recovered and tried to go after Aries again, but Aries delivered a big huracanrana, followed by a snap brainbuster center-ring. Aries then quickly scaled the cables, grabbed the title, unhooked it after a few moments, and dropped to the mat with possession of the title to win. Taz said it's just another day at the office for Aries.

WINNER: Aries at 7:21 to retain the X Division Title. Sabin's apparent injury put a damper on what had the makings of a good opener. It is unfortunate the Ultimate X match has become just-another-match in TNA with so many occurring through the years.

2 -- TV champion DEVON vs. HERNANDEZ -- TNA TV Title match

As Devon stood ringside waiting to make his entrance, Hernandez came flying over the top rope with a supersplash. Hernandez then rolled Devon into the ring, and, despite the unfair start, the ref called for the bell and Hernandez made a quick cover for a two count. Hernandez then settled into a bearhug trying to wear down Devon. After breaking free, Devon came flying off the ropes with a big shoulder tackle center-ring.

The two men traded bombs center-ring before Devon built momentum with successive offense. Suddenly, Hernandez came running out of the corner with a big shoulder tackle that sent Devon flying across the ring. It was good for a two count only. Hernandez tried to set up a top-rope move, but couldn't find his balance as Devon stood on his feet waiting. Hernandez eventually attempted a move off the top for a two count, then Devon came back with his spinebuster finisher for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Devon at 3:34 to retain the TV Title. Good sequences during this match before the clunky finish.

3 -- 11-MAN GAUNTLET BATTLE ROYAL -- BFG Series match -- 20 points at stake

After some back-and-forth between Hardy and Styles, Rob Van Dam came out as the third entrant. Van Dam executed trademark high-flying offense before they cut to break with RVD posing in the ring.

Back live, Bully Ray's music was playing to bring out Ray as the fifth entrant. During the break, Magnus entered as the fourth entrant, and there were no eliminations. Ray eventually hit the ring and did some damage before Kurt Angle entered as #6. Angle cleaned house before focusing on Ray to stomp a mudhole in him in the corner. Still no eliminations.

"The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero's music played to bring out a returning Pope, who Tenay said has been away doing TV and movies. Pope, #7, cleaned house before Ray attacked him from behind to cut off Pope's momentum. Hardy, who had been selling an injury after the break, was eliminated for the first cut of the evening. Suddenly, Abyss appeared from under the ring and yanked Ray over the top rope as everyone watched. Apparently that's legal in TNA, so Hardy and Ray are out. Chaos resumed leading to a break.

Back live, Robbie E. was in the ring as the eighth entrant, and there were no eliminations during the break. Suddenly, RVD was eliminated. Daniels then came out as the ninth entrant. Daniels pointed to the crowd, walked into the ring, and ate a springboard forearm smash from an angry Styles. Styles suddenly and accidentally nailed Angle in the head with a Pele kick when Daniels ducked, then Daniels tossed a distracted Styles over the top rope. Moments later, Angle was eliminated at Styles's feet, ending the night for the new tag champs. Styles tried to give Angle some aid leading to the top of the hour.

Samoa Joe's music played at the top of the hour to bring out entrant #10. Joe walked right up to Robbie and eliminated him, then lit up Magnus with a chop. The former tag champs had a staredown center-ring, then traded blows before Magnus landed a big boot. But, Joe pulled down the top rope and Magnus went flying to the outside for another elimination. Joe, Daniels, and Pope were left in the ring.

The final entrant (#11) was James Storm, who eliminated Pope right away, then teed off on Daniels as Joe sold in the corner. Storm eliminated Pope, leaving Joe and Storm. Tenay then passed along a word that whoever does not win the TNA World Title match later tonight will be the 12th man in the BFG Series. Joe and Storm battled on the ring apron, then Storm landed a Last Call Superkick to send Joe off the ring apron to the floor and win. Storm gets 20 points.

WINNER: Storm at 20:35 to win 20 points in the BFG Series. Plenty of interesting developments sprinkled throughout this match to set the stage for the three-month BFG Series. Overall, a nice quality, lengthy match to bridge the gap from the first to second hour.

4 -- Knockouts champion MISS TESSMACHER vs. MADISON RAYNE -- non-title match

Back in the Impact Zone, Rayne came out first to face the new Knockouts champion fresh off her title victory at Slammiversary. Rayne quickly took control of the match, then Tessmacher came back with successive offense. Rayne cut off Tessmacher, but Tessmacher hit a legsweep finisher for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Tessmacher at 2:50. Fine start to Tessmacher's title reign trying to establish some credibility with a clean victory using her finish.

5 -- TNA World Hvt. champion BOBBY ROODE vs. MR. ANDERSON -- TNA World Title match

Anderson quickly took it to Roode, who did not bail from the ring as he did at Slammiversary. Roode then turned the tables and knocked Anderson to the floor, but airballed a plancha attempt. Anderson ran Roode into the ring steps and taunted him ringside leading to break.

Back live, Roode had Anderson in a headlock center-ring. Roode continued to apply pressure to Anderson, who tried to fight out with elbow strikes before executing a backslide for a two count. Roode then elbowed Anderson in the back of the head before landing a neckbreaker for a nearfall. So, Roode went to work on the back of the head/neck looking to exploit Anderson's past concussion issues. Anderson absorbed the attack, then made a comeback with successive offense before landing a spinwheel kick to the head. Anderson set up for the Mic Check, but Roode ducked and slapped on a Crossface submission center-ring. Anderson escaped, then scored a series of close nearfalls before Roode rolled to the ring apron.

From the ring apron, Roode yanked Anderson's left shoulder across the top rope. Roode followed with a whip into the top turnbuckle before slapping on the Crossface again. Anderson fought the hold as Taz noted he must be in a lot of pain at this point. Anderson tried to get to the bottom rope, but had no choice but to tap out. Taz quickly covered for Anderson, saying there's no shame in tapping in that situation. Anderson was shown recovering in the corner with a stern look on his face as Roode celebrated the win by standing tall in the ring.

WINNER: Roode via submission at 11:31. Nice match and a good, clean, needed victory for Roode after looking weak recently. Anderson wasn't hurt taking a loss here. (**1/2)

WWE Superstars Results: 6-14-12

1 - ZACK RYDER vs. MICHAEL MCGILLICUTTY

There's some early back-and-forth and jawing to each other. Ryder reverses much of McGillicutty's offense and sends him outside, then lands a slingshot plancha. McGillicutty turns it around with action on the apron. Ryder can't get any traction, and the announcers are focusing on how both McGillicutty and Ryder need wins to get back into the championship picture.

McGillicutty is continuing his domination out of the break. Ryder dodges an elbow from the ropes to mount a comeback. Broski Boot gets a nearfall. Ryder reverses a suplex with a smooth neckbreaker for a nearfall, and calls for the Rough Ryder. McGillcutty avoids it, but eats an enziguri, then the Rough Ryder for the loss.

WINNER: Zack Ryder in 9:45. I really liked the focus that both Scott Stanford and Josh Mathews paid to the match itself and things related to the wrestlers in the ring, instead of totally unrelated things. It was also good for them to talk as if matches on Superstars are important, and emphasize the importance of wins and losses. This was a smooth match.

2 - THE USOS vs. TITUS O'NEIL & DARREN YOUNG - Tag Team match

"The Primetime Players" have their own music now. Jey and Young start the match. Jey mocks Young's pre-match hair primping, then the Usos start a stretch of offense. O'Neil comes into the match and the momentum shifts. O'Neil and Young isolate Jey for a stretch. Double tag and it is Jimmy firing up on Young. O'Neil breaks up a tag, and Young takes out Jimmy's knee when he deals with O'Neil. They hit their tag team finisher for the win.

WINNERS: O'Neil & Young in 5:20. I didn't care much for this match the times I saw it on NXT, and I still don't care much for it. Jimmy Uso is really good coming off the hot tag, and he shows fantastic intensity when it prepares for the stinkface. O'Neil and Young need to be introduced as "The Primetime Players" instead of as a team of individuals. Right now, The Usos are the only "true" tag team in WWE, in that they have a name for the team. I think that Superstars is the right place for the Primetime Players right now, but the wrong place for the Usos.

3 - JUSTIN GABRIEL vs. HUNICO (w/Camacho)

They start with some fine mat work. As things progress, the speed picks up and they spend more time in the air. Gabriel risks a big dive to the outside towards the announce desk and it pays off. Springboard cross-body gets a two count for Gabriel, who then gets aggressive and fends off Hunico's attempts to strike back.

Hunico is controlling out of the break. The crowd laughably chants "USA!" to fire up the South Africa native Gabriel. Hunico turns the match into a series of potential submissions. Gabriel does a backflip off the turnbuckle, catches Hunico, and lands a reverse DDT, which was so well done. Gabriel speeds things up. A nice series of nearfalls and counters ensues. Gabriel wants his new DDT finisher, but Hunico catches him and turns it into a suplex for the closest nearfall I've seen in a while. Enziguri puts Hunico on the mat. Gabriel up top, but Hunico pops up and nails him with a punch. They vie for control on the turnbuckle and Camacho gets involved. Hunico finally is able to win the test of strength, and lands a sweet huracanrana directly into a pin for the win.

WINNER: Hunico in 13:15. Both men are very skilled in the ring and they had the time to show it. No matter what kind of wrestling style you like, it was on display in this match. This may be the best match I've seen on WWE in a few months that did not involve Tyson Kidd. If you don't like this match, you shouldn't be watching wrestling.

WWE Smackdown Results: 6-15-12

1 – DOLPH ZIGGLER & DANIEL BRYAN vs. C.M. PUNK & SHEAMUS

Match began immediately out of break. Forward roll on Bryan for a one-count. Punk tagged in to renew his rivalry with Bryan. Quick tags on both sides in the early going. Punk whipped Ziggler into the ropes, but Sheamus propelled himself over to shoulder tackle the Show-Off. Standing vertical suplex on Ziggler. Both A.J. and Vickie were still at ringside, for what it’s worth. Ziggler surprised Bryan with a tag, and Bryan was hesitant to enter against Sheamus. A distraction led to Bryan taking over on offense. Standing elbowdrop, lateral press, only a one-count at 3:44. Hot tag to Punk at 4:18, firing away offensively on Bryan. However, momentum was squarely in the heel corner, with Punk outside the ring, as they went to break at 5:09.

Back at 9:05 with Punk and Bryan still in the ring, but the heels were making frequent tags in wearing down the WWE Champion. Sheamus finally made the hot tag and connected with White Noise on Ziggler. He called for the Brogue Kick, but Vickie got on the apron. A.J. shoved her into the ring. Sheamus tried to get her out, but Ziggler rolled him up for the victory.

WINNERS: Ziggler and Bryan, at 11:39. By-the-numbers booking to make Ziggler seem like a threat to Sheamus at the PPV.

2 – “FUNKASAURUS” BRODUS CLAY vs. HEATH SLATER

Running heabutt to the chest of Slater as soon as the bell rang. Big corner splash, then overhead suplex. Big splash for the big finish.

WINNER: Clay, at :23. At least Slater is getting a lot of TV time. He seems to be the go-to JTTS for the up-and-coming guys.

As Clay danced with the Funkadactyls after the match, David Otunga ran out and took out Clay’s leg. The ladies fled to ringside as Otunga continued going after the leg. They replayed Otunaga’s attack. Trainers and a few referees checked on Clay in the ring. I’m surprised they’re spending TV time to hype up the pre-show match, but they have to do that if they want people to tune in and care about it.

3 – ALICIA FOX vs. BETH PHOENIX

No entrances for anyone, actually. Layla joined in on commentary. Back elbow by Fox but she missed a flip leg-drop. Back-breaker by Phoenix, then she gave Fox the Glam Slam while looking at Layla.

WINNER: Phoenix, at :51. Beth seems head-and-shoulders above the other Divas in the division in a lot of ways.

4 – CHRISTIAN vs. JACK SWAGGER

Swagger’s gyrations on the ramp before coming down the aisle make it so difficult to take him seriously. Swagger powered Christian into the corenr, but fell victim to the Flip Kick in the opposite one. Christian low-bridged Swagger out of the ring. A Vickie distraction led to Swagger clotheslining Christian down. Back in the ring, Swagger slammed the IC Champ. Christian turned things around and set up for a Spear, but Swagger tripped him up and applied the ankle-lock. Christian quickly escaped and hit a diving elbow off the second rope. He went to the top where Swagger met him, but he knocked Swagger off and landed the frogsplash for the win.

WINNER: Christian, at 2:47. Swagger is barely one step above the Slaters and the Hunicos at this point.

5 – ARI COHEN & MIKE TESTA vs. RYBACK – HANDICAP MATCH

The two jobbers acknowledged that everybody thinks they’re jokes, then did a knock-knock joke predicting the end of Ryback’s winning streak. Then a “chicken crosses the road” joke. And before they could get to their “two guys walk into a bar…” joke, Ryback’s music hit.

Ryback knocked a jobber out of the ring with another on his back. The one on his back went up to his shoulders and tried punches, but Ryback no world and turned him around and into a powerbomb. Fallaway slam one into the other. Ryback finished them both with his now routine double-team finish.

WINNER: Ryback, at 2:04. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when he goes to facing main roster guys and can’t treat them like the jobbers.

6 – TYSON KIDD vs. DAMIEN SANDOW

Side Russian leg-sweep right off the bat. Sandow argued with the ref about a pin, allowing Kidd to hit a moonsault off the top for two. He attempted a Sharpshooter, but Sandow shoved him off with his legs. Knees to the chest, then a neck-breaker for three.

WINNER: Sandow, at 1:02. Would like to have seen a longer match here, but hopefully that’s to come.

WWE No Way Out PPV Results: 6-17-12 (next three posts)

1 -- World Hvt. champion SHEAMUS vs. DOLPH ZIGGLER (w/Vickie Guerrero) -- World Title match

After the bell sounded, Ziggler and Vickie met on the ring apron to discuss this being Ziggler's night tonight. Ziggler then took a victory kiss from Vickie, slowly turned around and dodged Sheamus's Brogue Kick, avoiding the WM28 finish from Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan. Ziggler walked around the outside to show Sheamus that he didn't get him, then re-entered the ring to begin the match. Meanwhile, Cole noted Sheamus has the weight advantage 267 vs. 213 lbs.

Sheamus and Ziggler went back and forth exchanging offense without either man really gaining a sustained advantage. The crowd came to life periodically, with mainly the vocal males chanting for Ziggler. Ziggler then applied a headlock and did a mid-hold headstand, which drew Jerry Lawler's ire pulling that stunt during a World Title match. Ziggler then executed a second DDT of the match, but it only resulted in a two count.

Ziggler went back to a reverse chinlock, then went for a roll-up, but the ref stopped his count when he saw Ziggler grab the ropes for extra leverage. After Ziggler applied another reverse chinlock, they tried to set up a counter sequence, but kind of got locked up and stuck in the middle of the ring before Ziggler eventually hit a Fameasser for a close two count. The action moved up top, where Ziggler nailed a super facebuster from the top turnbuckle. Ziggler made the cover, but Sheamus kicked out in time, drawing a reaction for the close nearfall.

Both men sold on the mat - Ziggler selling his left knee and Sheamus selling the effects of the facebuster. They reset with Sheamus avoiding another sleeper attempt into the Irish Curse backbreaker. Sheamus followed with ten forearm strikes to the chest, drawing concerns from Vickie. Ziggler came back moments later with a sleeper attempt, but Sheamus countered into White Noise. Sheamus got That Look in his eyes, fired himself up, went to the corner, and started calling for the Brogue Kick. Ziggler stood up, turned around, and took the BK. Sheamus with the pin for the win.

Post-match: Vickie just rested on the ring apron, selling exasperation over the loss for her client. Sheamus celebrated the title retention, then left the ring before WWE replayed high points from the match. Back live, Sheamus celebrated with the fans as Ziggler sold frustration ringside.

WINNER: Sheamus at 15:10 to retain the World Title. Good at some points, off at other points, and the crowd was up-and-down with the action before investing all the way in the final few minutes. There was never a sense that Sheamus was in jeopardy of losing the title, there were some convincing nearfalls for Ziggler. (**1/2)

2 -- U.S. champion SANTINO vs. RICARDO RODRIGUEZ -- non-title tuxedo match
 
Santino was out first in a powder-blue, Dumb & Dumber-inspired tuxedo. Ricardo came out in his usual black tuxedo. They had a posedown to see who could get the best crowd reaction for his tuxedo, which Santino of course won. Ricardo, upset, tore off some of Santino's tuxedo, then Santino tore off some of Ricardo's out of retaliation. Santino then did a matador routine leading to Ricardo flying through the ropes to the outside. Ricardo re-entered the ring, where Santino began removing some of Ricardo's clothing. The vocal males chanted, "Boring, Boring," as Cole recalled his favorite tuxedo matches.
 
Ricardo lost his upper clothing, but the bowtie remained. Santino then pulled out the Cobra, but Ricardo cut him off and began stripping down Santino. Santino revealed a Cobra sock, then kipped up and kicked Ricardo in the face before stripping Ricardo down to his Alberto Del Rio underwear for the win. Santino sold disgust over the underwear as the announcers cackled and laughed as if this was the greatest thing they've ever seen.
 
WINNER: Santino at 4:25.
 
3 -- IC champion CHRISTIAN vs. CODY RHODES -- Intercontinental Title match
 
Rhodes was out first as Cole plugged Rhodes's Facebook page. Christian then came out sporting a new Periodic Table of Elements-inspired t-shirt. After the bell sounded, the announcers discussed Christian and Edge as a tag team and Christian wanting to be remembered like Edge. Early on, Rhodes shoved Christian hard in the chest, so Christian slapped him across the face and landed successive offense that sent Rhodes to the outside. On the floor, Rhodes avoided high-flying attempts, then cut off Christian and went to work on Christian's left shoulder back in the ring.
 
After a few minutes of working the shoulder, Rhodes shoved Christian off the ropes down to the floor, drawing oohs from the crowd. Rhodes tried to follow-up, but Christian ran Rhodes into the ring steps before delivering a desperation swinging DDT using the ring steps for a base. Both men beat a ten count back into the ring, then Christian scored a nearfall before calling for the Killswitch. Rhodes avoided, then Christian went to the top rope for a flying cross-body, but Rhodes rolled through into a pin for a two count.
 
Both men sold the effects of the match before Rhodes hopped to the second rope, posed to the crowd, and lost momentum when Christian sprung on him with a snap head scissors for a two count. Rhodes came back with more work on Christian's left shoulder, then a kick to the stomach into the Alabama Slam for a nearfall. Christian came back with a fallaway reverse DDT, though, then called for the Spear. Rhodes saw it coming, though, and bailed to the outside. Back in the ring, Christian caught Rhodes with the Killswitch and the crowd popped for the apparent finish, but Rhodes kicked out in time.
 
Next, Christian went to the top rope, where Rhodes met him. Christian shoved Rhodes to the mat, though, and went for a Frogsplash, but Rhodes got his knees up to block. Rhodes followed with a Disaster Kick attempt, but Christian avoided. And, a second time. Christian then nailed the Spear for the pin and the win. Cole said it's only appropriate Christian use Edge's finisher since he wants to follow in his footsteps.
 
WINNER: Christian at 11:28 to retain the IC Title. Excellent final two minutes. Just a great sequence of counters/reversals before Christian showed off his third finisher in the repertoire. The crowd was not all the way invested during the first-half after the tuxedo match, but Christian and Rhodes got them by the end. (**1/2)

4 -- PRIMO & EPICO (w/Rosa Mendes and AW) vs. PRIME TIME PLAYERS (TITUS O'NEIL & DARREN YOUNG) vs. THE USOS (JIMMY & JEY USO) vs. JUSTIN GABRIEL & TYSON KIDD -- #1 contender match to Tag Titles -- fatal four-way match
 
The Usos and PTP'ers started the match, then Epico slap-tagged Darren Young, making Primo & Epico legal for the match. Justin Gabriel then tagged himself in on Epico, leading to an acrobatic display by Gabriel and Jimmy leading to a stalemate. The Usos cleared the ring before Titus blind-tagged into the match to go after Gabriel. Primo and Epico then tagged in and went to work on Gabriel as AW watched closely and Rosa trash-talked. As the match slowed, Lawler noted Rosa dominated one his dreams the other night.
 
Gabriel eventually made a tag to Kidd, who went after Primo with high-impact offense. The action broke down moments later before Kidd missed with a springboard elbow smash on Primo. Primo then hit the Backstabber on Kidd, but PTP'ers broke up the pin. The Usos followed with a double superkick, then flew at the PTP'ers ringside. Back in the ring, Primo tried to pin Kidd, but Kidd kicked out. Darren Young then slap-tagged into the match before bodies went flying again. Even more bodies went flying when Kidd landed a top-rope huracanrana sending Primo into everyone else ringside.
 
Following the big spot of the match, AW rolled Primo back into the ring, presumably to help him score the pin, but it led to Darren Young nailing Primo with his gutbuster finisher. Epico tried to break up the pin, but AW held him back, allowing Young to score the win. Post-match: AW entered the ring to join Titus and D-Young in the celebration. Rosa, Primo, and Epico then argued with AW before Primo & Epico shoved him down to the mat. Titus & D-Young made the save, clearing Primo & Epico from the ring. On the floor, Rosa checked on her men as AW, Titus, and O'Neil celebrated in the ring.
 
WINNERS: Young & O'Neil at 9:30 to become new #1 contenders to Tag Titles. Very slow at times before a noteworthy finish with AW associating with a new team. It remains to be seen if this actually leads to a tag feud involving Primo & Epico, or if they disappear. (*1/2)

5 -- Divas champion LAYLA vs. BETH PHOENIX -- Divas Title match
 
Beth was out first for a Divas Title re-match from Over the Limit. After the Spanish announcers talked on-camera, Layla came out to defend the title. The match started with some back-and-forth before Layla grabbed Beth's tiara and mocked her mannerisms. This was the theme early on before Beth caught up to Layla and began an attack. The turning point was Layla countering a feat of strength military press into a DDT, then Layla hit the Lay-Out for a clean pin and win.
 
WINNER: Layla at 6:57 to retain the Divas Title. One of those months where WWE wanted Beth to look like a comedy figure, rendering her ineffective as a challenger to the title.
 
6 -- HUNICO (w/Camacho) vs. SIN CARA
 
Cue up the mood lighting. Sin Cara knocked Hunico to the outside early on, but Hunico blocked a high-flying move with a knee to the face. Back in the ring, Hunico went to work on Cara as the crowd sat quietly. Hunico showed off some surprising strength with a side powerbomb out of a mathold. The crowd tried to wake up with a "We Want Ryder" chant as Hunico continued the attack. Cara then mounted a comeback with a top-rope huracanrana followed by kicks. Cara followed with his spinning single-arm head scissors takedown for the pin and the win.
 
WINNER: Sin Cara at 5:48. Hunico had a surprising amount of offense to retain credibility in defeat. Cara is a one-note act at this point and WWE is struggling to re-connect him to the audience following his return to TV from injury.

7 -- WWE champion C.M. PUNK vs. DANIEL BRYAN vs. KANE -- three-way match for the WWE Title
 
After an initial flurry from all three men, Punk and Bryan played a game of one-upsmanship alternating Yes! kicks on Kane. They bounced off the ropes, then double-dropkicked Kane. Punk and Bryan then came face-to-face to begin exchanging chops and punches - the crowd was "Yes!" for Bryan and "No!" for Punk. Punk then back-dropped Bryan over the top rope to the floor before running into a big clothesline from Kane. Punk recovered, then splashed Kane and Bryan on the outside before posing with the fans. Kane had enough of horsing around and took both opponents apart with high-impact offense on the floor and back in the ring.
 
Bryan eventually recovered and cleared Kane from the ring before engaging Punk in another mid-ring exchange. Punk wanted a top-rope superplex, but Kane re-entered and cleared Punk. Punk then pulled down Kane, but Kane pulled down Punk, then Punk pulled down Kane. They couldn't decide on who should superplex Bryan, so Bryan perched himself on the top rope for a double dropkick on both men, which Lawler called a great move. Bryan then fired off rapid-fire kicks to both men before missing on Punk, who rolled him up for a close two count. Punk and Bryan then went up top, and Kane joined the party. They set up a Doomsday spot - which Cole acknowledged - where Punk nailed a springboard clothesline on Bryan off Kane's shoulders. Punk could only score a two count, though.
 
Punk reset, scoopslammed Bryan, and went up top for the Macho Man elbow drop, which he connected with for a two count only. Punk wanted the GTS, but Kane kicked Bryan off Punk's shoulders to the floor and covered Punk for a two count. Punk then kicked Kane in the head and went for a Savage elbow drop, but Kane moved. Bryan then scampered back into the ring to nail a top-rope diving headbutt on Punk for a nearfall. Bryan cleared Kane to the floor, then turned his attention to Punk as Booker mistakenly said Bryan lost the WWE Title, when he actually lost the World Title. Moments later, Bryan slapped on the Yes! Lock, but Punk reversed into a two count. Punk came back with the GTS moments later, but Kane yanked Bryan out of the ring. Kane then went up top for a flying clothesline on Punk. Kane called for a chokeslam, but Punk countered with a DDT for a two count.
 
At 16:00, Punk climbed up top for a Macho Man elbow to Kane for another two count. Booker then said the World Title will make people do strange things, again missing that this is for the WWE Title. Punk called for the GTS to Kane, but Kane came back with a chokeslam for a very close nearfall when Punk was barely able to roll the shoulder. Kane screamed at the ref as Lawler talked about how close Kane was to winning the match. Kane gathered himself, then wanted a Tombstone, but Punk fought out. Suddenly, A.J. appeared on the ring apron and was bumped during a Kane-Punk exchange. Punk recovered, then kind of hit the GTS on Kane. Punk made the cover for the win.
 
Post-match: Punk celebrated his title victory as A.J. was sprawled out on the floor. Kane stood over A.J. before they replayed Punk shoving Kane into the ropes, which bumped A.J. to the floor. They showed Punk hitting the GTS moments later to retain the title. Back live, A.J. remained sprawled out selling injuries before Kane scooped her up and carried her to the back. The camera showed A.J. peering over Kane's shoulder showing no ill effects as she looked into the ring to smile toward Punk. WWE went back to a replay of the finish with Kane showing concern for A.J., causing him to become distracted. Back live, Punk indicated he realized what happened before celebrating again. They stayed with this for a while, as the announcers continued to try to explain the story of Crazy A.J. helping Punk win.
 
WINNER: Punk at 18:17 to retain the WWE Title. The three-way match formula is tired, but they had some really good sequences throughout the match with two smaller wrestlers and one larger wrestler working well together. A.J. backing Punk stuck to the match build-up, but there wasn't that big "moment" here after weeks of TV investment. (***1/2)

8 -- RYBACK vs. DAN DELANEY & ROB GRYMES -- handicap match
 
Ryback did his usual pick-apart routine as the crowd chanted, "Goldberg." Ryback then landed a double running Samoan Drop for a double pin and the win as Cole made some weird noises. "Feed...me...more!" Ryback shouted toward the camera after the victory.
 
WINNER: Ryback at 1:38.

9 -- JOHN CENA vs. BIG SHOW -- steel cage match -- if Show loses, Laurinaitis is "fired" -- if Cena loses, Cena is "fired" on Raw
 
Once the bell sounded, Show quickly slammed Cena into the steel cage as the fans made all sorts of noise chanting over each other. Cole then heeled on the crowd, saying Laurinaitis has two kids at home, so it would be a travesty if he were fired on Father's Day. Booker replied that it would give him more time at home. Show continued to toy with Cena before teasing the WMD, but Cena ducked and Show's fist ate the cage wall. Cena tried to escape, but Show yanked him down to the mat. Cole continued to hype Laurinaitis as Show took his time dismantling Cena. Cena then tried to scamper through the cage door, but Show pulled him back inside the cage. Cena tried to fight back, but Show ran him over with a big clothesline. WWE then cut to a shot of Johnny smiling and McMahon expressionless. Show followed up by looking down at Johnny and McMahon with a big smile. Show then trash-talked the fans while taking his time working on Cena.
 
Cena finally made a comeback by blocking a corner splash and landing a bulldog for a nearfall. Cena then tried to climb over the cage to wake up the crowd, but Show yanked him down back inside the cage. They fought against the cage wall before Cena crotched Show across the top rope. Show recovered moments later and delivered a big Vader Bomb out of the corner for a close two count. For his next trick, Show grabbed Cena around the neck, climbed to the top turnbuckle, and pulled Cena up to the top rope. After throwing Cena to the mat, Show walked the top rope using the cage wall as support before missing with a flying elbow drop when Cena moved. Cena recovered in the corner, then Show tried crawling away through the door, but Cena made the save and pulled Show back inside the cage.
 
At 13:00, Cena and Show avoided each other's offense before Cena nailed a shoulder block. Laurinaitis was shown on the edge of his seat, then Laurinaitis got out of his seat and took out the ringside ref before closing the cage door. McMahon grabbed Johnny, but then Laurinaitis shoved McMahon into the cage, slamming it on Cena's head. Show followed with a big chokeslam on Cena, who kicked out of a pin attempt. After a pause, Show measured Cena for the KO Punch, but Cena ducked and ref Armstrong took the KO Punch. After the ref bump, Show KO Punched Cena. Show was left alone in the cage as McMahon was tended to ringside.
 
Suddenly, Brodus Clay appeared ringside with chair in-hand. Clay begged Big Show to come through the door and get himself some. Show teased climbing over the wall, but Brodus didn't buy it. Lawler said there's no way out for Big Show. Clay then waved for more folks, and out came Alex Riley and Santino, who Show bumped off the cage wall. Show remained trapped inside the cage, then Zack Ryder hit the cage wall and Show KO Punched Ryder to the floor. Show decided to try to climb, but Kofi Kingston came flying down to ringside. Kofi climbed the cage wall, then kicked Show off the cage wall down to the mat inside the cage.
 
After the chaos, Cena began to stir as Laurinaitis surveyed the scene from outside the cage. Cena tried to climb through the cage door, but Show pulled him back. Cena then dropped Show with the Attitude Adjustment center ring. "Cena did it!" Lawler exclaimed. Cena paused to sell, then draped an arm across Show, but the ref remained out cold. Cena then decided to try to climb over the cage as Show tried to climb through the cage door. Brodus Clay then left his post guarding the cage door to hold back Laurinaitis. Cena suddenly flew off the cage to the floor moments before Show crawled through the cage door. Cena's music played, declaring Cena the winner despite all of the refs KO'ed.
 
WINNER: Cena at 19:24. Very slow early on before they went to the chaotic finish that engaged the crowd and delivered a satisfying pay-off for Cena Fans. Where they go from here on Raw tomorrow night will be interesting. (**)
 
Post-match: Brodus released Laurinaitis, who tried to smack him with his crutch before Cena ducked and hoisted Laurinaitis onto his shoulders. McMahon then re-appeared and shouted in Laurinaitis's face, "John Laurinaitis, you're fired!" Cena followed with an AA through the Spanish announce table for the exclamation point. Booker and Lawler warned Cole that he may be next. McMahon then marched to the back with a frown on his face as Cena celebrated the win ringside. They replayed Laurinaitis's reaction to Cena winning before showing McMahon fire Laurinaitis. Cole suddenly turned on Laurinaitis, saying he did a terrible job running both shows. "I never supported him!" Cole claimed. He then wanted to know who will run Raw on Monday and Smackdown on Friday. Cena was shown celebrating inside the cage before Cole signed off ten minutes before the top of the hour.

TNA Impact Wrestling Results: 6-21-12

1 -- MR. ANDERSON vs. DANIELS -- BFG Series match

In the crowd, Joseph Park was shown intently watching. Also, the announcers noted all BFG Series matches have a 10-minute time limit. Anderson and Daniels went back and forth before Daniels got too cocky, which allowed Anderson to make a comeback and hit the Mic Check for a clean pin and the win.

WINNER: Anderson at 3:06; Anderson gets 7 points.

Robbie E. was in the ring backed by Rob Terry. Robbie issued an open challenge to anyone in the back, and out came Kurt Angle ready for a snack.

2 -- KURT ANGLE vs. ROBBIE E. (w/Rob Terry) -- BFG Series match

Robbie tried to jump Angle once Angle hit the ring, but Angle quickly cut him off and landed three German Suplexes followed by the Angle Slam. Angle flowed right into the Anklelock and Robbie quickly tapped out. Angle kept on smiling and walked right out of the ring.

WINNER: Angle via submission at 0:33; Angle gets 10 points for a submission. Nice, quick, clean, safe victory for Angle.

3 -- MAGNUS vs. A.J. STYLES -- BFG Series match

Styles hit the ring and landed right hand blows before delivering a backbreaker. Styles tried a top-rope move, but Magnus intercepted him in mid-air, then turned it into a big suplex. Magnus continued the assault with forearm strikes, but walked into a textbook dropkick. Magnus avoided the Pele Kick, though, and scored a one count on a pin attempt. They cut to a shot of Joseph Park snacking on popcorn as Magnus settled into a chinlock. Styles came back with a corner clothesline before landing a kick to the head.

Styles went to the corner for a potential finisher as Daniels and Kaz came out to ringside holding paper. Their presence provided a distraction, which allowed Magnus to deliver his finisher for the pin and the win. Post-match: Daniels and Kaz sold mock frustration that Styles lost his match. They left ringside as Styles recovered in the ring.

WINNER: Magnus at 2:28; Magnus gets 7 points. Fine use of Daniels & Kaz to give Styles an "out" for his early BFG Series loss and continue building to Styles "coming clean" on whatever the issue with Dixie is.

4 -- TARA vs. TAELER HENDRIX -- Gut Check match

Tara played the veteran role early on, giving Hendrix a lesson in the ring. Mid-match, Joseph Park was instructed by a stagehand to leave his bleacher seat. Hendrix eventually teased a comeback, but Tara cut her off and scored with the Widow's Peak for a clean win.

WINNER: Tara at 2:34.

5 -- SAMOA JOE vs. JAMES STORM -- BFG Series match

Joe was the aggressor early on, working on Storm's shoulder. Meanwhile, the announcers told the late-arriving audience that they missed a lot in the first hour. Joe continued to work on Storm as Taz amused himself with pronoun discussion. Storm made a comeback with forearm strikes, but Joe cut him off with a knee to the gut into an armbreaker. Storm fought back with elbows to the gut, then right hand strikes before building momentum with clotheslines. Storm followed with a flying forearm, but got caught in the corner, where Joe smashed him with an enziguiri. Joe then slapped on a rear naked choke, but Storm escaped and flowed into the Last Call Superkick. Storm with the pin for the win.

Post-match: Storm celebrated by shooting alcohol into the crowd. Joe wasn't happy about the celebration and brought a beer bottle into the ring. Storm saw it coming, though, and prepared to defend himself. Joe opted to give it to Storm, though, as a "sign of mutual respect," according to Tenay, before bailing from the ring to give Storm the celebration spotlight.

WINNER: Storm at 3:55; Storm gets 7 points to bring him to 27 points.

6 -- BULLY RAY vs. "THE POPE" D'ANGELO DINERO -- BFG Series match

In the ring, Pope turned his back to remove his jacket, which gave Ray an opening to jump him from behind. Of course, this being TNA, the bell sounded despite the unfair start. Ray continued the assault with sustained offense before Pope came back with a right hand strike. They traded bombs before Pope landed an atomic drop into shoulder block. Pope landed successive bionic elbows, then delivered his running drop across Ray's neck. Pope wanted a top rope move, but Ray smacked the ropes, crotching Pope.

Ray followed with a big corner splash before landing six of ten corner punches. Suddenly, Abyss came through the crowd and called out for Ray. Abyss made his way to ringside as Pope kneed Ray in the back, sending him to the floor. Ray then got up and saw Abyss standing on the front row. Abyss hopped the guardrail and frightened Ray back into the ring. Back in the ring, Pope hit a quick impact move for the pin and the win. Post-match: Abyss hit the ring and chased Ray out of the ring. Ray ran away to the back as Abyss - walking like a zombie - demanded he come to him.

WINNER: Pope at 3:45; Pope gets 7 points. Abyss's character just doesn't seem to fit in the current TNA look and feel. Feels too connected to TNA's past during eras of illogical, convoluted storylines.

7 -- Knockouts champion MISS TESSMACHER vs. MICKIE JAMES -- Knockouts Title match

Mickie played the dominant veteran role early on, and scored several close nearfalls that continued to frustrate her. Tessmacher came back with a close nearfall after Mickie kicked out at the last second. Tessmacher then scored with a quick leverage pin for the win. Afterward, Tessmacher took her belt and high-tailed it out of the ring as Mickie sold frustration and pent-up anger.

WINNER: Tessmacher at 5:20. Basic storytelling with Tessmacher trying to hold on for dear life as new champ, while Mickie's frustration continues to boil not having the title to be recognized as the self-proclaimed best women's wrestler in TNA.

8 -- JEFF HARDY vs. ROB VAN DAM -- BFG Series match

Hardy knocked RVD to the floor within the first minute, then RVD blocked a high-flying attempt. The crowd picked up a dueling "Let's Go Hardy / R - V - D" chant as RVD began his attack in the ring. RVD followed with a split-legged moonsault for a nearfall, then Hardy came back with a bulldog. Hardy followed with a front suplex before climbing up top. He wanted a Swanton, but Rob moved and Hardy ate the mat.

RVD climbed up top for a 450 splash, but Hardy moved. Hardy nailed a DDT, but RVD kicked out in-time. Hardy followed with a Twist of Fate that turned into sort of a flip-over neckbreaker, and it was good for the pin and the win. Post-match: Tenay covered for this being very short for a TNA main event by focusing on the "incredible pace" to the match.

WINNER: Hardy at 3:47; Hardy gets 7 points. Not enough time to establish a flow in another quick BFG Series match.

WWE Superstars Results: 6-21-12

1 - EZEKIEL JACKSON vs. HUNICO (w/Camacho)

Hunico runs into the ropes from Jackson early on, then using craftiness for an early attack. Jackson's power can't overcome Hunico's speed, and Camacho lends a hand behind the ref's back. Hunico keeps Jackson grounded for a period of time. Jackson finally makes a comeback with a belly-to-back suplex, and proceeds to attack. Hunico whiffs on a Swanton Bomb, but a distraction from Camacho lets him knock Jackson down again and land the Swanton Bomb for the win.

WINNER: Hunico in 5:00. Decent showcase for Hunico, who did the best he could with what he had. I much prefer to see him against other cruiserweights, though.

2 - TYSON KIDD & JUSTIN GABRIEL vs. CURT HAWKINS & TYLER REKS - Tag Team Match

Hawkins and Kidd start things, then Kidd and Gabriel show off some slick team moves, but Hawkins gets Gabriel to the corner. Kidd and Gabriel show off more moves on Reks. Hawkins has to pull Reks from the ring to save him from a Sharpshooter. Kidd holds the ropes open so Gabriel can land a suicide dive on the pair. Reks manages to drop Kidd on the ropes right before break.

Hawkins is controlling Kidd out of the break. Kidd stays isolated for a period, then Gabriel finally goes in and unleashes on Hawkins. Hawkins with his swinging sit out powerslam. Gabriel with a leaping Tornado DDT, but Reks breks up the cover. Kidd clears him out. Gabriel with a kid to Hawkins's head, then the Blockbuster/Hart Attack for the win.

WINNERS: Kidd & Gabriel in 8:30. Good showcase match to establish Kidd and Gabriel, and Reks and Hawkins did a good job playing crash dummies.

3 - ZACK RYDER vs. DREW MCINTYRE

McIntyre is angry before he even gets to the ring, and takes it out on Ryder. Ryder, wrestling in front of his hometown audience, makes a comeback and they battle back and forth. Ryder with a flip-dive over the top rope to McIntyre on the outside.

Ryder is battling McIntyre on the apron, but McIntyre sends him head-first into the ringpost. McIntyre mocks Ryder's "L.I." finger gesture and continues his assault. Ryder is struggling to get traction, but McIntyre keeps up competent offense. McIntyre tries a double knee drop from the second rope, but Ryder gets his knees up to turn the tide. Broski Boot and the crowd is playing along. McIntyre takes advantage of a ref break to flatten Ryder's nose. McIntyre wants a superplex, but Ryder crotches him, then lands a Rough Ryder from the second rope. The hometown crowd goes nuts. Nice shot of Mr. Ryder in the crowd.

WINNER: Zack Ryder in 10:15. Don't ever bet against Ryder in the Nassau Colliseum, but I can imagine the fans were upset that he wasn't on Raw. Good match. McIntyre is very underutilized, and Ryder has a lot going for him, too.

WWE Smackdown Results: 6-22-12

Big Show comes out and says he's looking out only for himself. Brodus Clay comes out and attacks Show only to get clipped from behind by Otunga. Big Show on Clay happens after that.

1 -- RYBACK vs. FRANK VENEZIA & JARED WACHTLER -- handicap match

Ryback waited a few moments before beginning his assault by picking apart the "stupid" men one-by-one. One of the individuals attempted a huracanrana, but Ryback easily turned it into powerbomb. Ryback then powerbombed victim #1 on top of victim #2. Ryback decided to take it home with a double Samoan Drop for the pin and the win. Cue up the crowd pop before Ryback demanded to be fed more. The crowd followed along with his "Feed me more" chant as the announcers made food references.

WINNER: Ryback at 1:44.

2 -- IC champion CHRISTIAN vs. ALBERTO DEL RIO -- non-title match

Del Rio was the aggressor early on as Cole complained about Foley sending Del Rio down the ladder of World Title contenders after he missed his title match at No Way Out due to concussion. Christian then cleared Del Rio to the floor before landing a plancha. Smackdown went to break with both men selling on the floor.

Back from break, Mathews said Del Rio is "firmly in control" following action during the break. Del Rio was working over Christian's left shoulder, looking to set up for the cross arm-breaker. Del Rio continued the assault before Christian crawled to the ropes for a reprieve. Del Rio took too long climbing the ropes moments later, which allowed Christian to catch him with a top-rope huracanrana for a nearfall. Christian followed with a slap to the face, then went up top for a cross-body, but Del Rio avoided. Del Rio tried to follow with an enziguiri, but Christian ducked, then hit a Tornado DDT for a two count. Christian followed with a second-rope missile dropkick for a two count as Ricardo freaked out ringside.

Christian called for the end and teased the Killswitch, but Del Rio slipped out and dropped Christian with an arm-snap for a two count. Del Rio tried to follow with a second-rope sentaun, but Christian avoided. The IC champ wanted the Spear next, but Del Rio intercepted with a superkick. Del Rio wanted the breaker, but Christian countered into a pendulum kick. Ricardo tried to get involved as Christian climbed up top, but Christian scared him away. The distraction allowed Del Rio to hit an enziguiri, then Del Rio flowed into the cross arm-breaker for a tap-out win.

WINNER: Del Rio via submission at 10:57. Very good TV match with some nice counters and reversals building to the finish. One of Del Rio's better matches in some time, and Christian helped bring it out of him. (**1/2)

Post-match: Mathews said it's only a matter of time before Del Rio is #1 contender to the World Title again. Cody Rhodes then hit the ringside area and stormed the ring to attack Christian from behind. Rhodes took advantage of Del Rio's work by slapping on an armbar, but Christian powered to his feet, only to take a knee to the gut. Rhodes then rammed Christian into the ringpost before shouting down at him that he's stealing his time. "I am Smackdown!" Rhodes shouted before his music played.

3 -- KANE vs. DANIEL BRYAN

Bryan knocked Kane to the outside early on as Cole debated with Booker whether Bryan is to blame for A.J. going crazy because he may have just wanted to move on, which happens in relationships. Back in the ring, Bryan continued to work on Kane as A.J. prepared to strike the ringbell during nearfalls, which is good timekeeping because a match could end at any time. Bryan followed with Yes! kicks before Kane caught his leg to block a fourth attempt. Bryan sidestepped Kane in the corner, though, and nailed a kick to the gut. Bryan tried a top-rope move, but they had a miscommunication on whether Kane should counter. They reset the spot on the other side of the ring and Bryan landed a missile dropkick for a nearfall.

Kane suddenly came back with strikes before nailing a big boot off the ropes. A.J. smiled as momentum shifted to Kane, who called for the chokeslam, but Bryan slipped out and cut off Kane at the knees. Bryan followed with a kick strike to the head for a two count. He then went up top and attempted a diving headbutt, but Kane grabbed him around the throat to block. Kane attempted a chokeslam, but Bryan countered into a submission hold. Kane tried to escape, but Bryan maintained the hold. Kane began to fade as Bryan shouted at him to tap out.

Bryan then flowed into the Yes! Lock center-ring. Kane waved his arm in the air as Bryan maintained the hold. Kane sort of began swimming with his arm, almost as if he were tapping, and A.J. accidentally (or not?) rang the bell. The ref waved off the finish, but Bryan thought he won. Bryan then ran into a chokeslam, and Kane made a cover for the win, which drew the bell from A.J. Afterward, Cole said it appears A.J. accidentally rang the bell for Bryan, Mathews said he's not sure it was an accident, and Booker said he doesn't know what's going on. A.J. then skipped off, content with her work for the evening, as Kane acted perplexed in the ring.

WINNER: Kane at 7:18. Another solid TV match. Kane and Bryan work well together, which is expected when it's almost impossible for Bryan to have a bad match. (**)

4 -- ZACK RYDER vs. HEATH SLATER

Cole heeled on Ryder for over-tanning as Booker plugged his YouTube program. Ryder dominated early on as Cole annoyed Booker by trying to sing like a sick bird. Slater came back with a corner drop before arguing with the ref. The argument allowed Ryder to come back with a Rough Ryder, much to Foley's approval ringside, and it was good for the win. Post-match: Foley hit the ring to celebrate with Ryder.

WINNER: Ryder at 1:13.

5 -- THE USOS (JIMMY & JEY USO) vs. PRIME TIME PLAYERS (TITUS O'NEIL & DARREN YOUNG w/AW)

The Usos dominated Young early on as AW sold concern ringside. D-Young eventually made it to the corner to bring in Titus, who went to work on the Usos with power offense. "Millions of dollars. Whatcha gonna do?!" he shouted toward the crowd. The action broke down moments later before Uso came back with a Samoan Drop on Titus. AW then hopped on the ring apron to distract the ref, allowing the PTP'ers to gain an unfair advantage. Titus then hit his Clash of Titus finisher for the pin and the win.

WINNERS: PTP at 3:14.

6 -- World Hvt. champion SHEAMUS vs. DOLPH ZIGGLER (w/Vickie Guerrero) -- non-title match

Ziggler "showed off" early on as Booker noted Ziggler's stock went up Sunday night at No Way Out even in defeat to Sheamus. Ziggler tried a dropkick, but Sheamus brushed him off, then kind of dropped Ziggler on his neck with a running power move. After the awkward-looking exchange, Sheamus grabbed an armbar as Vickie shouted into the ring. Ziggler then low-bridged Sheamus, who fell to the outside, before nailing a dropkick through the ropes. Ziggler tried to follow up with a running splash off the apron, but Sheamus caught Ziggler in mid-air and overhead-slammed Ziggler right into the barricade. Big impact match for Sheamus heading to break.

Back from break, Ziggler had regained momentum during the break and was wearing down Sheamus in the ring. Sheamus came back with back-body drop sending Ziggler flying over the top rope to go splat on the floor. Sheamus then blasted Ziggler into the ring steps as Vickie screamed at him. Sheamus got her to back down, but Sheamus turned around to find a flying a Fameasser from Ziggler that sent Sheamus nose-first into the floor.

Back in the ring, Ziggler hit a neckbreaker, but Sheamus kicked out in time. Ziggler continued the assault before getting Mathews excited with a rear naked choke that looked like a sleeperhold. The majority of the crowd tried to rally behind Sheamus, who continued to take a beating from Ziggler. Sheamus then built some momentum at 9:30 before teasing the White Noise, but Ziggler countered into a roll-up for a two count. Ziggler then sprung on Sheamus with a big DDT for a two count.

Sheamus came back with a flying shoulder tackle off the top rope after clearing Ziggler to the mat. The World champ wanted more, but Ziggler crawled away to the ring apron looking for a breather. Sheamus took advantage with ten big forearm strikes to the chest as Vickie sold being unable to watch. Back in the ring, Ziggler nailed Sheamus with a knee lift, but then ran right into the Brogue Kick from Sheamus out of nowhere. Sheamus made the cover for the win, prompting Vickie to sell near-tears following another frustrating loss for her client.

Post-match: They replayed Sheamus delivering the BK out of nowhere for the finish. Mathews noted the Brogue Kick is always ready to go no matter what point during a match. Sheamus celebrated with fans ringside as Smackdown signed off with Sheamus standing tall.

WINNER: Sheamus at 12:26. Another really good TV match with a nice, clean finish. Ziggler is almost too good at what he does as a heel, and Sheamus continues to look like a dominant World champ. WWE didn't leave anything for next week, though, with no story development concerning the World Title.

1 -- WWE champion C.M. PUNK vs. DANIEL BRYAN vs. KANE -- non-title three-way elimination match

Bryan went after Kane's left knee, then Punk joined in the attack on the big man. Bryan then tried a quick roll-up on Punk for a two count, drawing a big smile from Bryan. With Kane on the outside, Bryan and Punk exchanged holds in the ring before they cut to a shot of A.J. watching the match on a backstage monitor. Punk then took a page from Super Dragon with a Curb Stomp on Bryan for a two count. Punk then tried to fly through the ropes on Kane, but Kane popped him with a fist. Kane took control of the action leading to break.

Back from break, Kane landed body-shots on Punk before stacking up Punk and Bryan in the corner for a big corner splash. They followed with a three-man Tower of Doom spot that turned into Bryan countering the Doomsday Device into a roll-up on Punk for a two count. All three men found themselves on the mat moments later following a double suplex spot. 6:36 into the match, Cole mentioned that ol' WWE Title, saying if Bryan or Kane wins, he could be next in-line for a title shot. Punk then cleared Kane to the floor before launching Bryan over the top rope onto Kane. Punk followed with a suicide dive onto both men ringside.

Back in the ring, Punk tried a top-rope move, but Bryan countered into an arm submission, but Punk countered into a catapult sending Bryan crashing into Kane. Punk then called for the GTS on Bryan, but Kane kicked Punk in the face to break that up. Kane made a cover on Punk, but the champ kicked out. Kane followed with a sidewalk slam on Punk, but another kick-out by the champ. Kane followed with a top-rope clothesline on Punk, then called for a chokeslam, but A.J.'s music played.

A.J., dressed normally, skipped down to ringside, drawing Kane's ire. A.J. skipped right back to the stage area, though, allowing Punk to recover and smash Kane with the GTS. Punk then covered Kane for an elimination at 9:57. Moments later, Bryan smashed Punk in the head with a swift kick. Bryan then covered Punk for the win. Cue up the "Yes!" celebration from Bryan after pinning the champ.

WINNER: Bryan at 10:10. Solid opening match potentially setting up Punk vs. Bryan in a title re-match. (**1/4)

2 -- BRODUS CLAY vs. BIG SHOW

The two big men collided mid-ring, then Clay landed some early offense. But, Show went after Clay's injured knee from David Otunga's recent sneak attacks. Show followed up by wrapping Brodus's knee around the ringpost, drawing concern from the dancers ringside. Ref Charles Robinson checked on Clay, who refused to give up. Show then climbed to the second rope and landed a drop to the chest. The crowd booed Show, who encouraged them to bring it louder.

Show slowly went for the KO Punch, but Brodus slipped out and headbutted Show in the gut. Show bounced off the ropes into Clay's arms for a potential bodyslam, but Show's weight was too much and Show fell on top of Clay. Show with the cover for the win, ending Clay's winning streak. Afterward, a content Big Show slowly left the ring as Clay sold pain and frustration. The ringside medic checked on Clay to conclude the segment.

WINNER: Show at 2:33. It will be interesting to see if this leads to Clay off TV to sell the injury or simply coming back stronger next week looking for revenge on Show and Otunga following the loss.

3 -- U.S. champion SANTINO vs. JACK SWAGGER -- U.S. Title match

Cole said Swagger had do something unbecoming for Vickie to receive this U.S. Title shot. Santino went for a quick win early on, but Swagger cut him off and went on a sustained attack. Santino then pulled the Cobra, but Swagger avoided. Santino hit a DDT moments later, then dropped Swagger with the Cobra strike for the pin and the win. Cole said Swagger's poor streak continues.

WINNER: Santino at 2:35 to retain the U.S. Title.

4 -- PSYCHO SID vs. HEATH SLATER

Sid called for cheers before the bell sounded, then began to dismantle Slater. Slater tried to make a comeback going after Sid's left knee before landing elbows to the back of the head. Slater tried to build momentum coming off the ropes, but Sid clotheslined him to the mat. Sid landed a big leg drop, then called for the powerbomb. He delivered it center-ring, then bent down to put a hand on Slater's chest for the win. Post-match, Sid crawled toward the ringside camera as Lawler noted he's "a little older," but still psycho.

WINNER: Sid at 1:30. Not as much of a nostalgic reaction for Vader, as a good portion of the Cena Era audience didn't know who he is.

5 -- ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. DOLPH ZIGGLER -- #1 contender match -- contract on a pole

Ziggler quickly tried to climb the pole to retrieve the contract, but Del Rio cut him off. Del Rio then decked Ziggler and slowly made his way toward the contract, but Ziggler pulled him down. The crowd was quiet with no rooting interest, then the vocal males picked up a light "Let's Go Ziggler" chant. Ziggler tried the Zig-Zag, but Del Rio blocked. They took the battle toward the pole as Lawler noted he likes this match watching them beat each other up. Ziggler hopped on Del Rio's shoulders trying to climb toward the contract, but Del Rio blocked, then sort of hit a fallaway slam that seemed to affect both men. They reset with another corner battle, then the contract fell to the mat.

The two men mad-scrambled toward the contract with a fumble situation ensuing. Neither man controlled the contract for a full second, then they knocked each other down. Ricardo tried to grab the contract, but Ziggler kicked it to the outside. Del Rio and Ziggler locked eyes for a moment, then tried to scramble to the outside, but pulled each other away from ringside. This continued on before the two men spilled to the opposite side of the floor.

Suddenly, Sheamus's music played to bring out Sheamus telling the "ladies" they don't need to keep fighting. Sheamus said he just spoke to Vickie, who told him that it will be a triple threat match for the World Title. But, before they get their hopes up, this match won't be about showing off or destiny, but about him kicking both their arses this Friday night. Sheamus's music played to apparently this. Lawler wondered why Sheamus is happy about this, and Cole said it's because he likes to fight.

WINNER: Nothing at 5:40 when the segment ended. What a trainwreck disaster from the booking department. But, beyond the actual match, good synergy promoting a World Title match four days later on Smackdown.

6 -- DIVAS SUMMERTIME BATTLE ROYAL

Back live, 11 Divas were assembled in the ring before "Kris Jenner" Vickie Guerrero interrupted and inserted herself into the match. The other Divas then ganged up on her to begin the battle royal. Where's Gail Kim to skip out early? After Divas started clearing out, it came down to Vickie and A.J., who avoided elimination, then eliminated Vickie. A.J. did Bryan's "Yes!" celebration to continue her mind games story.

WINNER: A.J. at 2:10.

7 -- JOHN CENA vs. CHRIS JERICHO

As Cena and Jericho felt each other out, the announcers recapped Cena's accomplishments during his 10-year run in WWE and Jericho's career highlights. Jericho slapped Cena, who retaliated with a punch that sent Jericho to the outside to stall for time. They cut to break one minute into the main event.

Back from break, Jericho was in control of the action with a side headlock mid-ring. Cena powered to his feet as Cole recapped the news on tonight's show. Cena broke free of the headlock, but Jericho dropkicked him to maintain control. The announcers recapped Cena and Jericho in the Raw MITB ladder match before Lawler claimed every MITB winner has gone on to become WWE champ. Cole corrected him that the person who has cashed in MITB has become champ every time. Cole also noted Cena wants to get back in the WWE Title picture after not being champ for a year.

At the top of the hour, Jericho kicked Cena to the mat to maintain control. Cole reset the show, focusing on A.J. wreaking havoc on the show, Big Show on a rampage again, and the four participants in the Raw MITB ladder match. Cena then made his comeback with a shoulder tackle, then sit-out slam to set up the Five Knuckle Shuffle, which Jericho blocked with a Walls of Jericho tease. Cena then teased the AA, but Jericho slipped out. Cena came back with the finish to the Shuffle.

Suddenly, Big Show's music played to bring out a distraction for Cena. Cole reminded viewers that Show claimed to be moving on from Cena. Back in the ring, Jericho trapped Cena in the Walls of Jericho center-ring. Show then slipped into the ring and dropped a leg across Cena to cause a DQ. Jericho sold frustration losing the match, but Show asked him if he wants some of this. After the brief Jeri-Show reunion, Jericho backed down, then gave Show the ring to have at it.

WINNER: Cena via DQ at 8:18. Not much given away with most of the match occurring during the commercial.

Post-match: Show grappled Cena and super-chokeslammed him center-ring. Cena flopped over onto his stomach to sell the effects as Show stared into the crowd. Show followed with a modified Camel Clutch - the Colossal Clutch, as described by Cole. Cena's face turned purple as he sold the effects. Lawler called for someone to do something about Show, but decided no one can stop Show. Show released the hold as Raw went off the air four minutes past the top of the hour.

R.O.H. Best in the World iPPV Results: 6-24-12

(1) Briscoes beat Guardians of Truth. The match suffered big-time because of loose ropes. The hardest working ring crew member spent all match sneaking around the ring tightening the ropes when he could, while being heckled by the crowd. Huge reaction for Briscoes, though. Heavy "man up" chants, but a dud match.

(2) Homicide beat Eddie Edwards. Good match. The crowd was 70/30 in favor of hometown boy Homicide, but I was behind my Mass. guy Eddie. Big pop for his Cop Killa finish.

(3) Adam Cole beat Kyle O'Reilly in a Hybrid Rules match. The crowd was all over this match in the worst way, until Cole got opened up hard-way, then they really picked it up and were all about the match. Huge "This is awesome" chants. The fans were solidly behind Cole and the high-impact style from both men down the stretch.

(4) Michael Elgin beat Fit Finlay. The match was slow and got a lot of "boring" chants. A decent story was told with the right guy going over, but the crowd was ready for this one to end after about ten minutes.

(5) Mike Mondo beat Mike Bennett. Good heat for Bennett and Maria, and good reactions for Mondo, even though he wasn't the smoothest on the mic. What was up with his haircut, though?

(6) ROH TV champion Roderick Strong beat Jay Lethal and Tomasso Ciampa in a three-way match to retain the TV Title. Great three-way dance, and each of the guys had their fans. The crowd loved the finishing sequences Roddy used, too. He is great. The crowd was hot all match.

(7) All Night Express (Rhett Titus & Kenny King) beat ROH tag champions Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin to capture the ROH Tag Titles. The fans were solidly behind ANX. Rhett's girlfriend was in the seat behind me and she and her friends were very vocal for Rhett and Kenny as well. Huge pop on the title change, and massive go-away heat with scattered "respectful applause" for WGTT. Big-time "F--- you Charlie" chants, though.

Steve Corino got a big reaction and a large "ECW" chant when he came out for the main event. Davey Richards came out to a lot of boos and slight respectful applause. There was a big reaction for Kevin Steen.
 

( ROH World champion Kevin Steen beat Davey Richards to retain the ROH World Title. Awesome match with great weapon and table spots. The crowd ate it up! Also, huge reactions for the package piledrivers and three count. Also of note, the crowd popped huge twice and broke out with the loudest "Yes!" chants I've ever heard live when Davey spin-kicked ref Todd Sinclair and also when Steen hit the other ref with the package piledriver. Awesome reaction.

After the match, Steen tried so hard to turn the crowd against him and establish himself as a real heel, but the crowd wouldn't comply. He called us hypocrites, which led to "Yes!" chants. He disparaged the names of C.M. Punk and Daniel Bryan, but still no boos. He mentioned how the fans have turned on every World champion since Nigel McGuinness (which is very true, except maybe Nigel not as much), but said that in order for that to happen or matter, he would have to "give a s--- about us" first. He concluded with something about he, Jacobs, and Corino killing ROH and finished with "F--- New York City!" which elicited a large pop from the Steen-happy crowd.

Overall, I think ROH just needs to accept that he's going to be cheered as the badass anti-authority figure no matter how hard they make him try to be an old=school heel. I don't know if Jim Cornette can realize that or not, but here's hoping so.

Overall, an average card with some super-intense and fun moments. Some matches put the crowd to sleep and others had the fans rabid, but too much was just meh that it couldn't all be overshadowed by the good.

Also of note, they announced that this year's Final Battle event will take place in the Hammerstein Ballroom on December 16 at 2:00 p.m. Odd ring time, in my opinion.

TNA Impact Wrestling Results: 6-28-12

1 -- MR. ANDERSON vs. ROB VAN DAM -- BFG Series match

Anderson and Van Dam exchanged quick pin attempts early on before coming to a babyface vs. babyface stalemate. That was short-lived when Anderson went for a handshake, then popped RVD in the jaw with a right hand strike. RVD came back with a drop toehold into a Muta Lock looking to secure a submission victory, but Anderson reached the bottom rope for a break. RVD went for another mat submission as Tenay plugged another BFG Series match tonight - Samoa Joe vs. Bully Ray.

RVD and Anderson traded blows at 4:00 before RVD executed a Northern Lights suplex for a nearfall. RVD followed with a cartwheel into a back-flip press for another nearfall. RVD tried to finish off Anderson with a split-legged moonsault, but Anderson blocked with knees to the gut for a two count. Anderson followed with a neckbreaker for another nearfall. Anderson then tried a move out of the fireman's carry, but RVD countered into a crucifix pin for the three count.

WINNER: RVD at 5:53; RVD gets 7 points to get his first points of the Series. Up and down match. Some good sequences, then awkward exchanges. The mat-based wrestling was refreshing for an RVD and Anderson match, though.

2 -- SONJAY DUTT vs. RUBIX -- X Division Title tournament qualifying match

Close nearfall at 1:50 when Dutt spring-boarded into a splash. Dutt then measured Rubix for a neckbreaker, but Rubix came back with an enziguiri into a bridge suplex for a two count. Dutt came back with a spike DDT for coming off the top with a moonsault into a double foot stomp. Unique spot. Dutt with the pin for the win. After the match, Christy Hemme interviewed Dutt about being back in the Impact Zone. Dutt said he's here for one thing only: become X Division champion for the first time.

WINNER: Dutt at 3:13. Good to see Dutt back in TNA. But, not enough time to showcase Jigsaw if they plan to use him beyond this one booking.

3 -- SAMOA JOE vs. BULLY RAY -- BFG Series match

Once the bell sounded, Ray argued with ref Earl Hebner before trash-talking Joe. Ray claimed Joe is afraid of him, so Joe backed Bully all the way to the corner. Ray continued to duck under the ropes to avoid locking up, drawing boos. Ray did it a third time as Tenay noted the BFG PPV location will be revealed next week on Impact. Joe eventually got his hands on Ray for a side headlock. The two bulls collided mid-ring before Ray knocked down Joe with a back elbow. Joe came back with left hand jabs before Ray raked the eyes. Ray followed with a big suplex taking Joe to the mat for a two count. At 3:15, TNA cut to break with Ray in control.

Back live, Joe blasted away at Ray with corner blows before running into a discus clothesline from Bully. Joe sold on the mat before Ray blasted him across the chest with multiple chops to the chest. Joe, fired up, came back with forearm blows before they double clotheslined center-ring. Ray tried to drape an arm across Joe to steal a pin, but Joe kicked out. Tenay noted going into this match that he thought each man's tempers (he did not refer to Joe as having a Samoan temper) could be a factor in this match. Ray continued the wear-down process, remaining one step ahead of Joe.

Ray stalked Joe in the corner, then landed more offense to Joe's injured left shoulder. Tenay noted Ray's strategy is evident trying to avoid submission moves from Joe. The match passed the old 10-minute time limit with Joe on the floor trying to get some feeling back in his arm. Back in the ring, Ray went for a running splash, but Joe rolled out of the way. Joe then landed an atomic drop into a big boot to the face into a back-splash for a close two count.

Next, Joe tried more jabs, but Ray ducked a third blow and hit Rock Bottom for a close two count. Ray then tried a flying splash from the second rope, but Joe moved and Ray rolled to the outside. On the floor, Ray blasted Joe with a running boot to the face to deck him. Ray then entered the ring to try to get a count-out. But, suddenly, Joseph Park stomped down from the backstage area to the ring. Park stood on the ring apron, then slapped Ray across the face. Suddenly, Joe snuck in behind Ray and applied a rear-naked choke for a tap-out victory.

WINNER: Joe at 12:59 to receive 10 points; Joe up to 27 points. Nice big-man match.

4 -- MASON ANDREWS vs. RASHAD CAMERON

Late in the match, Rashad missed a top-rope moonsault, then accepted a kick to the chest. Scorpio built some momentum, then delivered a cross-body for a two count. Cameron then knocked Scorpio to the outside before landing a big flip-dive on the outside. Back in the ring, Cameron measured Scorpio for a top-rope move, but Scorpio flew onto the top turnbuckle for a body scissors press for a nearfall. Scorpio then ate the corner turnbuckle with a dropkick to the back before Cameron nailed Paydirt for the pin and the win.

Post-match: Christy Hemme asked Rashad how it feels to advance to Destination X. Cameron said everyone out there in TV Land is looking at the next X Division champion. He said the Impact Zone just witnessed the beginning of the Rashad Cameron Movement.

WINNER: Cameron at 4:06. Scorpio looked a bit nervous and uncomfortable early on before settling into a good final few minutes with Cameron, who has an impressive look and carries himself like a star. Solid action.

5 -- TNA tag champions A.J. STYLES & KURT ANGLE vs. DANIELS & KAZARIAN -- TNA Tag Title match

Kaz said he would start the match, then Styles grabbed him around the throat to start the match. Styles kicked Kaz in the back before throwing him into the tag champ's corner to tag in Angle. For some reason, the crowd started a slow-clap despite the face champs in control. Daniels then tagged in and Angle blasted him in the corner before Daniels caught him on the other side of the ring. Daniels tried to bring in Kaz for offense, but Kaz acted uninterested. So, Daniels tagged himself back into the match. Styles and Daniels took their fight to the outside, where Styles slammed Daniels across the ring apron in front of Dixie and Claire. Daniels, frustrated, begged Kaz to help him, but Kaz continued to act disinterested.

Back live, Daniels had Styles in a side headlock trying to wear down one-half of the tag champs. Daniels then dropped Styles with an STO for a two count. Meanwhile, Tenay recapped Storm vs. Hardy next week on Impact. Angle then made a tag into the match, so Daniels bailed to the outside. Kaz tried to put up a valiant effort against Angle, but Angle nailed him with three German Suplexes. Angle dropped the straps, then dropped Daniels with three Germans. Angle then tried an Angle Slam, but Kaz countered into a modified Ace Crusher for a close nearfall.

Kaz wanted Fade to Black, but Angle rolled into the anklelock. Kaz fought off, then Styles tagged in for Angle and smashed Kaz, who tagged out to Daniels. Styles smashed Daniels, then both men collided mid-ring. Breather time with all four men on the mat followinf the sequence. After a reset, the ref was bumped to the floor. With the ref down, Daniels retrieved a chair and tried to smash Styles, but Kaz grabbed the chair from Daniels. After Styles dropped Daniels with a Pele Kick, Kaz flipped off Daniels, then left the ring. Styles grappled Daniels for the Clash, but Kaz re-entered the ring with chair in-hand and cracked it across Styles. Well, kind of. Kaz then dragged the ref into the ring and he counted to three, rendering new tag champs.

WINNERS: Daniels & Kaz at 11:47 to capture the Tag Titles.

WWE Superstars Results: 6-29-12

1 - WWE tag champion KOFI KINGSTON vs. MICHAEL MCGILLICUTTY

Well, this match answers one of my questions from the New NXT - main roster talent like McGillicutty is being used to supplement New NXT, not to be a place for them to permanently reside.

McGillcutty impresses Kingston with his power early on, and Kingston lets him know it with a smile. Kofi teaches McGillicutty a lesson with his speed. Kingston pulls off a crazy spot bouncing back-first on the ropes and catching McGillicutty around the neck with his legs on the rebound, and smoothly transitioning into a head scissors takedown. McGillicutty takes control and they head to break.

Kingston is fighting out of a resthold, but takes a big back body drop. McGillicutty continues to dominate, but he jaws at the crowd, letting Kingston finally regain control. Kingston looks like he wants a Boom Drop, but McGillcutty Army-crawls to the apron. Big springboard crossbody gets Kingston a nearfall. He finally gets the Boom Drop and calls for the Trouble in Paradise. McGillcutty moves, and then counters an SOS attempt. McGillicutty counters a top rope move with a dropkick. McGillicutty wants the Turning Heads neckbreaker, but is forced to duck the Trouble in Paradise instead, but a moment later he's eating Kingston's foot for the loss.

WINNER: Kofi Kingston in 10:15. There was a time not long ago when Michael McGillicutty's music signaled a bathroom break for me; I now consider his matches to be "must see." It's a combination of his in-ring improving very rapidly (I am convinced that William Regal spent some time working with him based on some of the moves he's picked up), and being paired against opponents like Kofi Kingston and Tyson Kidd. Based on what was seen on NXT last season, I would really like to see McGillicutty and Johnny Curtis chase the Tag Titles; that would produce some excellent matches and superb promos and backstage segments.

2 - EPICO (w/Primo and Rosa Mendes) vs. DARREN YOUNG (w/Titus O'Neil and AW)

AW's mic is still live. Epico takes it to Young as AW exhorts Young. Young makes a comeback on the apron. Young uses his power, but Epico reverses a suplex attempt with a lateral press for two. Young continues to wear away Epico. O'Neil interferes, allowing Young to hit the Gutcheck for the win.

WINNER: Darren Young in 4:20. AW's mic gimmick draws great heat, but it is incredibly distracting. Epico shined on his own. I really missed Epico and Primo, but I see that the time off from TV was to get the audience to forget that they are heels. It is kind of working, as Rosa's shimmying does get the males to root for them.

3 - THE USOS vs. HUNICO & CAMACHO - Tag Team match

The Usos have new outfits - baggy purple shorts and white basketball player style headbands. They have also cut their hair. I think this may be Camacho's first or second broadcasted match in WWE. By win/loss record, Hunico should probably be the #1 contender to a title right now, as he's been slowly accumulating wins on Superstars.

Jimmy and Hunico kick it off. Hunico shows off a bit, but Jimmy overpowers him. Jey comes in, but Hunico is able to get Camacho involved. Jey takes Camacho down. Jey gets isolated for a stretch. Back body drop lets Jimmy tag in, and he goes to work on Hunico. Camacho provides a distraction letting Hunico crotch Jimmy, then land a huracanrana into a pin. Camacho distracts the ref, letting the Usos hit Hunico with a flapjack into a superkick (sick combo by the way) for the win.

WINNERS: The Usos in 5:40. Fun match. Camacho did his part fine, and the other three delivered as expected. I love The Usos's new tag team finisher, and I hope to see them use it more.

Heath Slater delivers a promo about how everyone tries to steal his spotlight. Mid-promo, Kane's pyro hits and Slater jumps halfway to the next county. Slater looks dumbstruck as Kane comes to the ring. Slater has quickly become a master at creating instant heat, and his in-ring has come up too.

4 - KANE vs. HEATH SLATER

Kane dissects Slater, as expected. On commentary, Striker says that the Legends will come out every week and Slater will be involved with them. Slater gets a brief slurry of offense. He jumps into an uppercut and Kane continues the mauling. Top rope clothesline followed by a chokeslam ends the match.

WINNER: Kane in 3:15. Fine match to help establish Kane as a face (or and anti-heel, at the very least). Slater is at the point that Dolph Ziggler was a few years ago, a clear cut heel that can easily draw legit heat, who bumps nicely and takes losses well.
