WWE RAW Results: 5-2-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results, which makes it quite small actually since much of last night's show was about The Rock's birthday.

R-Truth was suppose to wrestle John Morrison but Truth jumped him before the match began and took Morrison out.

1 -- MARYSE vs. KELLY KELLY

Less than 30 seconds in, Kharma's music played and Kelly freaked out. Kharma slowly made her way to the ring as Kelly cowered in the corner. Ross noted Kharma's TV debut last night at Extreme Rules taking out McCool. Kharma stared down Kelly, but targeted Maryse for her implant buster finisher. Kharma laughed maniacally, stared down Kelly, and left the ring.

WINNER: No Decision. Apparently Kharma's mission is to eradicate the heel Divas and play psychological mind games with the babyface Divas. Strong official TV debut. (n/a)

2 -- WWE champion JOHN CENA vs. THE MIZ (w/Alex Riley) -- WWE Title match

Quick start with Cena scoring with a hip-toss and dropkick for an early nearfall. Miz then kicked Cena in the gut to mount an offensive attack. Cena fought back with right hands before Riley hopped on the apron. Cena punched him off the apron, then Miz clotheslined Cena to land multiple right hands. Miz knocked Cena to the floor and Riley proceeded to clothesline Cena while Miz had the referee occupied. On the floor, Miz ran Cena into the ring steps before rolling him back into the ring for a nearfall. Miz followed with a big running clothesline as the fans were engaged in a loud dueling chant of Let's Go Cena / Cena Sucks. Miz landed a double axehandle smash from the second rope for a nearfall, then Mathews sent the show to break.

There was a sense of urgency in Ross's voice as they returned from break with Miz scoring a close nearfall. Ross noted he was surprised Miz cashed in his re-match clause tonight after losing the title last night. Mathews said Miz's ego drives him to where he must be WWE champion. Nice, intelligent, refreshing announcer exchange. Cena suddenly made his comeback and set up for the Shuffle, which he connected with. Miz popped to his feet and walked into the AA at the AAA, but Miz slipped out and booted Cena in the head. Miz paused to collect himself, then walked right into the STF. Riley shouted at Miz to get the rope, and Miz did so just in time.

Cena collected himself on the other side of the ring, then walked into a boot to the knee and DDT for a two count. Lots of chatter between Cena, Miz, and the ref here calling some spots. Miz then removed a top turnbuckle pad, which the ref blindly didn't see. Miz tried a turnbuckle shot, but Cena ducked. Miz then ducked a clothesline and hit the Reality Check for a close two count. The crowd was living and dying on every exchange here.

Miz paused again, then stalked Cena from behind. He wanted the Skullcrushing Finale, but Cena ducked and bumped the ref to the outside. Cena then applied the STF and Miz tapped, but the ref was on the floor. Cena stood up to celebrate, which set him up to take a briefcase shot and Skullcrushing Finale form Miz. Riley then slid the ref back into the ring and made a slow count, but Super Cena kicked out, which popped the pro-Cena crowd.

Miz paused again to collect himself, showing frustration with his inability to put away Cena. Miz took too long to collect himself and walked right into the AA. It looked like the end in classic Cena fashion, but Miz kicked out just before three. The ref began a ten count as Riley ran interference again. Miz landed a belt shot behind the ref's back, then made a cover. The ref made the count and there's a new WWE champion.

Post-match: Suddenly, the ref recognized that Miz already had the belt in the ring to celebrate. He then waved off the victory and told Justin Roberts it's a reverse decision. Miz flipped out, screaming at the ref that he can't do that. Miz then argued with Riley before actually shoving Riley. Cena put an end to the discussion with an AA for both Riley and Miz. Cena gave out a primal scream celebrating the win before posing in the ring as Ross noted Cena is in hostile territory in Rock's hometown of Miami. Cena continued to celebrate as they cut to break.

WINNER: Cena via reverse decision at 12:10 to retain the WWE Title. Excellent made-for-TV title match, although the interference was a bit over-done. At least there was some referee competence, but considering it was on behalf of Cena, it will only fuel the anti-Cena sentiment from vocal males with Cena getting "another break" retaining the title. It will be interesting to see where they go from here with the title picture, especially with a PPV in three weeks. The title match outcome certainly didn't "remove" Miz from the discussion despite the loss. (**1/2)

3 -- REY MYSTERIO & U.S. champion KOFI KINGSTON vs. JACK SWAGGER & DREW MCINTYRE

Swagger and Rey started things off and Del Rio resumed his anti-Rey narrative from their Smackdown days. Kofi then tagged in and ran off Rey's back for a big corner splash on Swagger. Del Rio then noted he should be World champion right now. Mathews asked him if it's still his destiny and Del Rio was silent as the show cut to break.

Back from break, Swagger and Kingston were battling center-ring in a "Welcome to Raw tag team special attraction," as Ross described it. Del Rio wanted to know why Rey is here on Raw. Lawler said because he was drafted. Del Rio said "they" told him he would be the only Mexican on Raw. Well, that would be true in a comparison to Rey since Rey is American. In any event, Ross told Del Rio not to always trust "they." Del Rio then noted his new destiny to become new WWE champion. Ross quizzed Del Rio on whether he's jealous of Rey and Del Rio snapped that Rey is a Chicano and not a real Mexican. The heels continued to wear down Kingston as Ross equated McIntyre to a high NFL Draft pick you're waiting for to become a Pro Bowler.

Rey finally took a hot tag at 7:40 and cleaned house on McIntyre. Rey scored a nearfall when Swagger broke up a pin, then Kingston entered the action. After Jack was cleared to the outside, Kingston delivered Trouble in Paradise to McIntyre. Rey then hit the 619 on McIntyre and spotted Del Rio standing ringside. Rey pointed to him, then hit a springboard splash on McIntyre for the win. Suddenly, the Washington, D.C. monument flashed on the screen. They cut back to Del Rio and Rey trading glares back and forth. Mathews then fed to a video package.

WINNERS: Rey & Kofi at 8:38. Fine two-segment match, although another installment of Del Rio vs. Rey seems over-done. Since WWE believes there are two different audiences who watch Raw and Smackdown, they're probably thinking it will be fresh on Raw. McIntyre didn't look comfortable at all with his new heel persona. (*1/2)

4 -- WWE tag champion KANE vs. MASON RYAN (w/C.M. Punk)

Before the bell sounded, Ross noted this one won't be a classic wrestling match. Ryan quickly shoved Kane through the ropes, then knocked down Kane in the ring. Ryan followed with a big spinning scoop slam, then Irish whips in opposite corners. Kane mounted a comeback, then Punk interfered, causing a DQ. The other Nexus members charged the ring to little reaction. Kane fought them off, then wanted a chokeslam on Ryan, but Ryan released himself from the grip, freaking out Kane. Ryan then hit a uranage. Nexus beat down Kane for a bit before the other half of the tag champs, Big Show, stormed the ring. Show quickly cleared the ring of Nexus before he ate a big spear from Ryan. Ryan surveyed the damage in the ring before leaving while Punk called out to him. After a replay of Ryan's dominance, they cut to a shot of the other Nexus members selling disbelief with Ryan.

WINNER: Kane via DQ at 1:38. WWE is obviously trying to turn Ryan into their next super-monster heel, but they'll have to get him away from the completely irrelevant Nexus group for it to work. As for Punk, it's clear they're not looking to turn him into a bigger star to entice him to stick around with his contract due. (n/a)

WWE NXT Results: 5-3-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- CHAVO GUERRERO vs. DARREN YOUNG -- Hornswoggle special referee

A one-footed Young hobbled across the ring toward Chavo, who quickly targeted the exposed leg. Regal mentioned past barefoot wrestlers, prompting a Haku reference from Titus. Grisham tried a poetry joke, which fell flat. Young made a comeback with a back-body drop and went for a cover, but Hornswoggle found himself preoccupied. Chavo then clotheslined Young over the top rope and landed a plancha leading to a break.

Back on NXT, Chavo was wearing down Young as Hornswoggle pretended to show concern for Young. Young made a comeback and chucked Chavo to the outside, then dropped Chavo across the ring apron on the floor. Back in the ring, Young wore down Chavo and choked him across the middle rope. Hornswoggle reprimanded Young some more, then Young resumed his attack and scored a slow one count. Young, still on one foot, lost control of Chavo before Chavo landed a textbook dropkick. "To the lips," Titus said with great enthusiasm.

Chavo slingshot Young across the top rope and landed a slingshot dive from the apron for a two count. Chavo did a bit of an Eddie shake and went for multiple suplexes, but Young escaped and bumped Hornswoggle. Horny refused to count Young's subsequent pin on a Nothern Lights suplex. Young got up and argued with Horny, who then bit him on the tailbone. Titus tried to act like he didn't see anything, but was rather unconvincing. Chavo followed with Three Amigos and climbed up top to deliver the Frog splash. The pin and Hornswoggle made it official for the win. Chavo and Horny celebrating, putting aside their issues from a few years ago to show the kids that everyone can get along.

WINNER: Chavo at 9:13. Fine match continuing the Pro vs. Rookie issues in the Chavo and Young feud. (*1/2)

2 -- CONOR O'BRIAN (w/Kozlov) vs. LUCKY CANNON (w/Tyson Kidd)

As Cannon came to the ring noting to the crowd it's all about him, the announcers mentioned that NXT host Maryse is not in the house this week after Kharma took care of her on Raw last night. Prior to the bell sounded, Regal said he gave himself a fake tan ahead of his scheduled match against Novak tonight. Regal continued to run down Novak's Pro, JTG, as the two Rookies traded holds in the ring. And they continued to trade holds for a while. Cannon then tried to bail from the ring, but Conor threw him back in. Kidd tried to get involved, which gave Cannon an opening to kick Conor in the head and hit an ugly-looking fireman's carry finisher for the win.

WINNER: Cannon at 4:16. Well below-average match. The NXT Rookies are still learning how to put together the meat of a match, as evidenced by this in-ring effort. Cannon has the character aspect down pat, but Needs Improvement in the ring.

3 -- WILLIAM REGAL vs. JTG (w/Jacob Novak)

The bell sounded and JTG quickly bailed to the outside to catch a breather. The ringside audience taunted JTG, who collected himself and mock applauded Regal. JTG then slipped back into the ring and assumed a fighting stance. Regal danced around the ring, then ducked under JTG and landed knee strikes beneath the jaw. JTG bailed from the ring again to catch a breather as Novak paced around with JTG. Back in the ring, Regal extended a mock handshake. Scout's Honor. JTG shook, then Regal stomped on JTG's hand. In between knee strikes, Regal told Novak he's too much of a coward. Regal then walked into a boot to the head that finally gave JTG some momentum.

JTG mounted Regal and landed multiple right hand strikes for a one count. JTG followed with a hip toss for another one count. JTG taunted Regal and landed right hand strikes. Novak got involved on the outside, then Regal popped to his feet and told JTG to bring it stronger. JTG ducked under the ropes to avoid Regal's wrath, then slipped out of the ring to keep Regal pacing around the ring like a hungry tiger. Regal and JTG eventually traded places in a game of cat & mouse, so Regal popped Novak on the outside.

Back in the ring, Regal drove JTG to the corner before doing some back mule kicks to the gut as the ref tried to reprimand him. Can Regal get his own show? Regal then measured JTG for the knee trembler strike and connected. Regal made a cover, but Novak interfered to cause a DQ. Post-match: Novak pounded on Regal and made Regal gasp for air. Novak then collected JTG and pulled him out of the ring. From the outside, Novak taunted Regal, who collected himself in the ring and eyed Novak that he can't wait to get a piece of him.

WINNER: Regal via DQ at 6:01. Although he doesn't appear to be in great physical shape, Regal hasn't lost a step being a master storyteller in the ring. Nice match that allowed JTG and Novak to show something new personality-wise. (*1/2)

WWE Superstars Results: 5-5-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- TRENT BARRETA vs. JEY USO

Korpela played up some story that Barreta walked into the office and demanded he be on Superstars this week to redeem himself after a loss to Tyson Kidd on last week's show. Korpela then asked Striker why Jey would take a singles match tonight. Striker played up a story that he signed a Smackdown contract dictating he has to take singles matches, tag matches, and any other match, so he selected a singles offering this week. Jey cleared Barreta to the outside, causing Barreta to crash into the guardrail leading to break.

Jey focused on Barreta's throat with a chinlock, then nailed a giant butt bomb in the corner. Jey didn't follow up and simply stared down at Barreta before making a cover for a nearfall. Barreta came back with a moonsault from the top turnbuckle followed by a springboard dropkick for a two count. Jey came back with a toss-up Samoan Drop for a two count, but missed with a top rope splash. Barreta went back up top, but Jey crotched him. Jey wanted a Samoan Drop, but he made a mistake giving Barreta an opening to nail the Dudebuster tornado DDT for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Barreta at 7:45. Fine singles match getting over Barreta's resiliency after a competitive back-and-forth.

2 -- MELINA vs. BETH PHOENIX

The Raw portion of the show picked up with Scott Stanford and Josh Mathews on the call for a Divas match. Stanford noted Melina's recent losing streak on Superstars. Meanwhile, Mathews resumed his position critiquing Stanford on being long-winded and not speaking in soundbytes. As the match started, Mathews talked up the Divas Title, saying it doesn't behoove the Divas to be friendly toward each other since there's only one women's division title in WWE. Stanford went back to the 2010 Royal Rumble for Phoenix's memorable elimination of Great Khali, drawing Mathews's ire again for a "dated" reference. Stanford wanted to go back even further to Extreme Rules 2009 when Phoenix and Melina locked up in an I Quit match. Wrong PPV. On cue, Melina tried to get Phoenix to quit this match, but Phoenix resisted and made a spirited comeback. Melina tried to come back with a kick strike, but Phoenix ducked, Melina caught herself in the splits, and Phoenix lifted her up in the air for the Glam Slam and the win.

WINNER: Phoenix at 4:38. Good chemistry here. There seems to be some momentum building behind the women's division with Kharma's introduction. An interesting note during the match was the announcers talked about McCool leaving WWE, so it's not a complete write-off by not mentioning her at all.

3 -- EVAN BOURNE vs. ZACK RYDER

Basic back-and-forth to start the match as the two men traded holds. Bourne knocked Ryder to the floor, then wanted a huracanrana, but Ryder caught Bourne in mid-air and threw him into the guardrail. Ryder grinned for the camera as they cut to break.

Back in the ring, Ryder was wearing down Bourne, showing more aggression than in the beginning of the match. Ryder then measured Bourne for a running boot in the corner and connected. Stanford noted it's the Broski Boot. Ryder with a cover for a nearfall, then he settled into a modified crossface that showed a lot of light. Ryder re-applied the hold, then smirked for the camera and started toying with Bourne.

Ryder wanted a move from the second rope, but Bourne intercepted him with a blow to the mid-section for a nearfall. Bourne followed with a dropsault, then a kick strike to the mid-section. Ryder tried a desperation Rough Ryder, but Bourne caught him with a knee to the face. The crowd roared as Bourne climbed up top, then delivered the Air Bourne. "Air Bourne in the house!" Stanford declared. Bourne with the cover for the win. As Bourne celebrated, they went to a slow-motion replay of Bourne smashing Ryder with his finisher. Bourne continued to celebrate as Ryder was shown mouthing, "Are you serious, bro?" More smiles from Bourne to conclude the show.

WINNER: Bourne at 7:11. Solid, professional effort from two underutilized players on the Raw roster.

TNA Impact! Results: 5-5-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Bax' complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 --- SANGRIENTO vs. SUICIDE

Suicide was in control early over the newcomer (name apparently means bloodthirsty) before a hurrancanrana onto the floor put Sangriento back into control. It didn't last long as he climbed onto the ring apron for another move but Suicide knocked his feet out from underneath him and rolled him into the ring for a two count.

As Suicide held Sangriento into a headlock, the reunion of the AJ Styles/Daniels tag team was announced for later tonight against Bully Ray and Gunner. Meanwhile, Sangriento was in trouble as Suicide continued to control things with a big dropkick and a powerslam for another two count.

Sangriento fought out of it and knocked Suicide to his knees and hit a dropkick off the the turnbuckle before hitting a top rope hurrancanrana onto Suicide. Both times he earned a two count. Suicide rebounded with a face first move into the turnbuckle and looked to be in control. However, Sangriento countered mid-move into another hurrancanarana before hitting a cool looking springboard move that led directly into a mid-air cutter for the victory.

WINNER: SANGRIENTO in 4:00

BAX REAX: That has to be Amazing Red under a mask. Either way, Suicide had a lot of offense in this match but Sangriento had his spots as well. A four minute match is too short to get over a new high flyer but it isn't as big of a deal since TNA hasn't made the X Division Championship seem important in two years. But it is a shame because it felt like this match was just starting to kick into high gear when the end came.

2 --- TV CHAMPION GUNNER & BULLY RAY vs. AJ STYLES & DANIELS

Daniels & Bully Ray started things off. Bully Ray started talking trash at AJ, so Daniels tagged him in but Ray scurried out and tagged in Gunner before AJ could touch him. AJ hit his signature picture-perfect drop down, jump over dropkick onto a running Gunner before tagging in Daniels.

The two Fortune men kept control for a moment before Daniels was hit by Ray as he came off of the ropes, allowing Gunner to level him and tag in Bully Ray. Ray beat Daniels in the corner before Gunner was tagged back in to hit a bodyslam for a two count.

The crowd got behind Daniels as Gunner had him in a headlock and the Fallen Angel fought his way out and leveled Gunner with a flying clothesline. He tagged Styles into the match and AJ eventually decked Gunner with a flying clothesline.

AJ then nailed Gunner with a Pele Kick. Surprisingly, Styles climbed back outside the ring for a springboard move and Ray leveled him onto the top rope. Daniels took out Gunner but Ray came into the ring and clotheslined him down.

Bully Ray picked up his chain and looked like he was ready to hit AJ with it. Suddenly, Tommy Dreamer charged out to the ring to make the save. Except after a short staredown with Ray, he turned and hit a piledriver on AJ Styles and the ref called for the bell as the crowd booed Dreamer.

WINNERS: AJ STYLES & DANIELS in 4:00 via DQ

After the match, Dreamer looked like he regretted his action but left at Bully Ray's side. Ray looked in the camera and told Styles that he was going to hurt him. Commercial hit as Tenay promised follow up on Tommy's actions.

3 --- ROB TERRY vs. MURPHY --- LOSER LEAVES IMMORTAL

Not much happened early as both men tried to knock each other over without success. Eventually, Rob Terry tossed Murphy into the corner for his usual lumbering shoulder blocks that Taz & Tenay put over as dominating. Of course, anyone with two eyes can tell they're slow and thoroughly unremarkable. Murphy moved before Terry could hit him running in the corner and then hit a backdrop. Murphy went up to the top rope and hit a flying clothesline on Terry for a two count. The crowd seemed to be somewhat getting behind Terry as he tried to get back to his feet and then back body dropped Murphy when Murphy took too long to play to the cameras.

Terry fought out and hit Murphy with a spinning heel kick before a shoulder carry powerslam earned him the pinfall victory.

WINNER: ROB TERRY in 3:30

Murphy is out of Immortal.

4 --- TNA KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHP --- MICKIE JAMES (CHAMPION) vs. MISS TESSMACHER

Does anyone remotely believe Miss Tessmacher is going to beat one of the greatest women's wrestlers of all time in her first televised match? Tessmacher 'dropped' her glasses for another cheer for the crowd. She fits great into the WWE Diva playbook with her ability to shake her *** far exceeding her ability to wrestle. She's like a dark-haired Kelly Kelly.

A couple of headlocks and armbars started things off before Mickie hit a running shoulder block on Tessmacher before a dropkick got a one count. Tessmacher fought back and they exchanged half of a dozen forearm shots.

Tessmacher climbed onto the top turnbuckle and jumped onto Mickie's shoulders. Instead of the electric chair drop, Tessmacher got a two count on a victory roll. She then hit an ugly enziguri that led to a wristlock on Mickie. James fought back but Tessmacher hit a knee to the gut to kept her in control.

But not long thereafter, Mickie hit a pair of running clotheslines followed up with a hangman's neckbreaker that stunned Miss Tessmacher. Mickie then hit her tornado DDT for the win.

WINNER: MICKIE JAMES in 4:00

Tessmacher didn't take the tornado DDT very well. In fact, it looked pretty bad on her end. Still, she didn't look quite as bad in this match as I had expected.

5 --- KURT ANGLE & VELVET SKY vs. JEFF JARRETT, WINTER & ANGELINA LOVE

Velvet and Winter started things off and the first move of the match was a monkey flip that didn't get much air by Velvet, followed by a big clothesline that put Winter down. However, Winter slammed Velvet face first into the middle turnbuckle and tagged Love in.

Love continued her no-selling of Velvet's offense before Velvet hit a running spear that finally did the job of putting Zombie Love on her back. Velvet then went after Karen, which distracted her long enough for Angelina to hit a dropkick out of the ring, leading to a commerical break.

Back from break, Velvet was taking a beating from a stoic Zombie Love. She tagged in Winter and they hit a double team suplex as the crowd chanted 'We Want Angle!' as Jarrett comically waved his arms no. However, Velvet managed to crawl through and tag Kurt in.

Angle came in like a house of fire and took JJ down before hitting him with a big belly to belly suplex. He went for the Angle Slam but Jarrett countered into an arm drag before hitting Kurt with a DDT for a two count.

The men swung back and forth before Kurt turned a roll-through pin attempt into the Ankle Lock. Karen tried to drag JJ out but Kurt pulled them both back across the ring. As Karen sat complaining, Velvet tagged herself in and went after Karen.

Unfortunately, Velvet must not be very good at math because she got double teamed. But then surprisingly, she caught both women in a DDT under each arm and pinned Winter for the win.

WINNERS: in 8:30 (5:00 televised)

Kurt congratulated Velvet and told her he hoped this would lead her towards her dream of becoming the Knockouts Champion. The then told JJ and Karen that his chosen one wasn't Velvet but Karen's nightmare would be at Impact next week.

WWE Smackdown Results: 5-6-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Park's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 – SHEAMUS vs. DANIEL BRYAN

Mathews said Daniel Bryan is like the Ryan Reynolds of WWE, because he’s athletically gifted. That’s an interesting observation, since you don’t usually here Reynolds referred to as “athletically gifted.” Sheamus aggressively went after Bryan, still angry from his US Title loss on Sunday. Bryan and Sheamus went back-and-forth in the corner. Bryan flipped away from danger, and caught Sheamus with a light dropkick that sent the Irishman to the outside. Bryan dove through the middle ropes and onto Sheamus. The men traded blows on the outside, but Sheamus, from inside, whipped Bryan, on the apron, into the ring post. Back in the ring, back-breaker by Sheamus. They went to break at 1:52 of the match.

Back at 5:58 of the match. Bryan was working out of a rest-hold. Bryan walked right into a back-breaker, the second one we’ve seen so far in this match. Sheamus, from the apron, gave Bryan a knee-lift as Bryan was draped between the ropes. Shoulder tackle by Sheamus for two. Bryan blocked a second-rope suplex and landed a dropkick at 7:50 to even the score. Both men got to their feet until Bryan used his patented kicks to his advantage. Booker wondered whether Bryan had karate or kung fu in his background based on those kicks. Sheamus set Bryan up for Pale Justice, but Bryan countered. Sheamus went for another diving shoulder tackle, but Bryan dodged it, grabbed the arm, and applied the LeBell Lock. Sheamus was close enough to the ropes to grab them. Sheamus went to the outside and Bryan was about to dive through the ropes at him. As he attempted it, Sheamus pump kicked him, knocking him for a loop. Back in the ring, Sheamus with another Brogue Kick, this time for the win.

WINNER: Sheamus, at 9:43. Good match, and nice finishing sequence. Too bad Bryan couldn’t get the win here, but they may be positioning Sheamus to be one of, if not the top heel on the brand.

2 – THE BIG SHOW vs. EZEKIEL JACKSON

Match was joined in progress, but it didn’t appear very far along, as they were locking up. The two men stalled a bit, until Show took Jackson down with a rear waist-lock. However, Jackson back body-dropped Show. He put the boots to Show as Booker T. said something about this being the first time he’s seen Show on his back. I’ll assume I mis-heard him. Jackson then picked Show up and bodyslammed him. Rear chin-lock by Jackson, as he didn’t waste time going after the big man. Kane showed concern at ringside. Show came back and both men were down just over 2:00 in. The two got to their knees and traded rights. Show went for body shots, then clotheslined Jackson down. And another. Big splash by Show in the corner, then a shoulder tackle. Heath Slater got on the apron to distract, but Kane took him down. He put Justin Gabriel down too, but Wade Barrett gave him a big boot. Corre pounded on Kane until Show came out and cleaned house. Show went back into the ring, but by then, Jackson had recovered. One big clothesline later, and it was over.

WINNER: Jackson, 3:32 shown. This got over Jackson’s power, though he didn’t really do anything we hadn’t seen before. That said, the match was not as bad as one might expect.

3 – LAYLA vs. ALICIA FOX

Fox was shaking it even more so than usual on her way to the ring. Hey, it’s part of the job to notice things like that. Fox was on the offensive to start, and she hammered away on her opponent in the corner. Layla came back with kicks and connected on her neck-breaker. Cover, reminiscent of Maryse, for the win.

WINNER: Layla, at :53. Not much to say. Too short really, but it appears Layla is playing the babyface, as expected, now.

Before Layla could celebrate too much, Kharma’s music played and she came out. Of course, the women in the ring were mesmerized by her. At least Maryse was too injured to leave the ring on Raw. What’s the excuse for these ladies? Cole did say it’s almost as if Kharma hypnotizes them, which would somewhat explain the fact that they don’t high-tail it out. Kharma entered the ring, and Layla wisely left. She eyed Layla as she made her way up the ramp, so Fox came up from behind Kharma and kicked in her the ribs. It had no effect, other than to annoy Kharma. “Kharma is looking at her like she’s a chicken bone,” said Booker. Kharma caught a second kick attempt, and clotheslined Fox down. Implant Buster on Fox. Kharma did her Hugh Morris thing as the crowd (or perhaps the audio sweetener) buzzed with interest. Slight chant of “one more time.”

4 – SIN CARA vs. TYSON KIDD

They competed under the special Sin Cara lighting. Cara did some flips early, then took Cara down with a headscissors after going around the world about two times. Chavo took credit for doing pretty much all of these moves early on, earlier in his career. Kidd kicked Cara outside the ring, and suplexed him onto the ringside mat. Crowd, mostly kids, chanted for Cara. Kidd choked Cara in the ropes, but missed a catapult leg-drop. Handspring back-elbow by Cara, then another headscissors. Springboard cross-body for two. Kidd set himself on the top rope, and tried to bring Cara up. Cara kicked him in the head as Chavo accused Cara of stealing his moves. C4 off the top by Cara for the win. Chavo questioned who that move hurt more. Seeing as Kidd was PINNED because of the move, I’d say it was him.

WINNER: Cara, at 2:48. Sounds like we’re getting a Chavo vs. Cara feud. I’m not going to complain about that. Chavo has experience with that style and he can put Cara over.

5 – RANDY ORTON vs. CHRISTIAN – WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Christian barely cleared Orton on a leap-frog, and it may have earned him some harsh words from Steve Austin or Bill DeMott were he on Tough Enough. Orton grabbed Christian and from overhead, reigned blows down upon his chest. He set up for the rope-assisted DDT at about 1:15 of the match, but Christian dumped Orton over the top rope and to the outside. Christian with a baseball slide through the ropes, but he missed a dive over the top. They went to break 1:43 in.

Back 5:29 into the match. Orton was still in control. Mathews said Orton has pinpointed the bruises Christian suffered on Sunday, and he’s taking advantage of them. Rear waist-lock by Orton, designed to wear down the champion. Christian fought back with rights, but he missed a clothesline. Orton clotheslined Christian over the top and to ringside, and he went tumbling out to. Break again, at 7:55 of the match.

At 11:19 of the match, they returned from break. Christian caught a foot to the back of his head from Orton on that spill before the break. Orton headbutted Christian in the ring, but succumbed to a back elbow for a two-count. Both men were down at 12:22. The two volleyed back and forth on the their feet, and a big dropkick turned things Orton’s way. He dialed it up with some big clotheslines. Christian countered and hit his spin kick in the corner. Dropkick off the second rope for two. Orton tossed Christian over the top, but Christian held on and brought Orton’s throat down over the top rope. Cross-body off the top for a near-fall at 14:05. He went to the opposite corner and hit a European uppercut off the top rope. Orton with a powerslam for two. Both men’s gauges looked to be near “E.” Christian set up for the Killswitch, but Orton dodged it. Christian missed his punch from outside the ring and Orton DDT’d Christian from between the ropes. Orton was irate when Christian kicked out. The camera showd a close-up of both men’s faces. Olympic Slam countered into a reverse DDT for only two. Olympic slam finally connected, and Orton pounded the mat, ready to strike for the finish. Christian countered it and Orton countered his finisher. Christian went for his springboard sunset flip, but Orton connected on the RKO, in mid-air, in the middle of the ring to become the new champion.

WINNER: Orton, at 17:18. I don’t think anyone expected Christian to be the long-term champion, but I’m sure some are surprised that he didn’t really even get a chance to carry the ball.

Orton celebrated on the ramp with his newly-won belt, as Christian struggled to come to grips with the loss in the ring. He got to his feet, but didn’t exactly get a rousing ovation. There it is, as he left the ring. The crowd did seem more pro-Orton than pro-Christian during the match, though we don’t know how much WWE tinkered with the audio. Christian slowly made his way up the ramp as the camera stayed on him from afar. He rubbed his head in frustration as the show faded out.

Okay...behind since I had some personal issues going on (mom in hospital!) so let's get caught up already ;)

WWE RAW Results: 5-9-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- BELLA TWINS (Divas champion BRIE BELLA & NIKKI BELLA) vs. EVE & KELLY KELLY

The Bella Twins were already in the ring back from break. Eve then came out, followed by Kelly Kelly, for tag action. Mathews plugged Kelly in Maxim magazine before the opening bell. The Bellas quickly isolated Kelly, who fought back before the action broke down. In the confusion, Kelly scored a small package win.

Post-match: Kharma's music played and the Divas freaked out. The Bellas hid ringside, then ran away once Kharma made her way to the ring. Kelly then ran out of the ring, so Eve was alone. Eve tried to charge Kharma, who clotheslined her. After chasing off Kelly, Kharma re-entered the ring to give Eve the implant buster. Cue up maniacal laughter. Refs eventually slid into the ring to check on Eve.

WINNER: Kelly & Eve at 1:21. On the house shows over the weekend, Kharma attacked Eve, so they carried this over to TV. Perhaps it was a test run so Kharma wouldn't injure Eve. There's no sense yet where this is all going. (n/a)

2 -- WWE tag champion KANE (w/WWE tag champion Big Show) vs. MASON RYAN (w/C.M. Punk)

The announcers heavily, heavily promoted Ryan as he displayed his limited moveset. Ryan lifted Kane in the air to deliver a big powerslam in the corner turnbuckle for a two count. Show sold concern ringside, then Kane made a comeback with various kicks to the upper body. The ref had to guide Mason away from the ropes so Punk could run interference behind the ref's back. Big Show then smashed Punk with a KO Punch ringside. Suddenly, Nexus hit the ring to attack the tag champs and cause a DQ, but Show and Kane easily discarded of the scrubs.

Post-match: Ryan entered the ring and ate a double chokeslam. Kane hit the pyro as Nexus tried to check on Punk, who sold he was KO'ed. Meanwhile, Ryan was attended to by a ref. The tag champs left the ring as the carnage was evident ringside.

WINNER: Kane via DQ at 2:16. This was all over the place. No one takes Nexus seriously anymore, and this didn't help. If the goal is to build up foes for Kane and Show, WWE is failing. Ryan looked pretty lost in the ring. He's not ready, so WWE is having the announcers heavily push him as a monster to try to distract from how green he is. (1/4*)

3 -- DOLPH ZIGGLER (w/Vickie Guerrero) vs. SANTINO

One minute into the match, Mathews said Ziggler had been in control "throughout the match." Santino then warmed up the Cobra, but Ziggler met him with a dropkick to the mush. Ziggler followed with the Zig-Zag for the pin and the win. Vickie clapped it up for Ziggler as Cole talked up Ziggler as the future of WWE. Ziggler then sternly walked out of the ring, ignoring Vickie's encouragements.

WINNER: Ziggler at 1:42. Fine squash using equity built up in Santino's finisher to transfer fan excitement to anger toward Ziggler. They need to do more with Ziggler, though, and they need new announcers. There isn't a credible lead announcer with a true compass on the show, disallowing WWE from being able to set up their stories to effectively build heat on the heels or rally fan support for the faces. (n/a)

4 -- WWE champion JOHN CENA vs. ALEX RILEY -- non-title match

Cena toyed with Riley early on, then Riley cut him off and worked a headlock. Cena easily made his comeback and delivered the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Cena then teased the Attitude Adjustment as Miz walked out half-way down the ramp. Cena, while staring down Miz, delivered the AA center ring. Miz came a little closer to the ring and Cena lifted up Riley for another AA. Next, Cena slapped on the STF center ring. Riley immediately tapped out and Miz remained standing on the ramp. Cena eventually released the hold and posed in front of Miz, who maintained his position on the ramp. Cena posed in the ring as Miz slowly backed up the ramp. More back-and-forth shots of Cena and Miz before Cena posed in the ring with the title belt.

WINNER: Cena via submission at 3:12. Decisive squash for Cena to build him up as invincible. It makes long-term sense to build up Cena as strong as possible these next 11 months leading to WM28 vs. The Rock.

5 -- U.S. champion KOFI KINGSTON vs. JACK SWAGGER -- U.S. Title match

Swagger teased the anklelock, then Kofi teased Trouble in Paradise early on. Cole suddenly made some beeping noises to introduce a special news bulletin that Jerry "The King" Lawler is in pain. In the ring, Kofi mounted some offense with a dropkick that sent Swagger to the floor. Kofi teased a plancha, but Swagger slipped into the ring and landed a forearm smash. Kofi recovered on the floor, Cole clapped it up for Swagger, and they cut to break.

Back from break, they went back-and-forth for a bit before Kofi delivered a signature high cross-body splash from the top rope for a close two count. Swagger then tried to chuck Kofi over the top rope, but Kofi skinned the cat, only to have Swagger grab his ankle. Swagger teased the anklelock, but Kofi grabbed the ropes to avoid. Swagger, with a cut lip, took too long to follow up, giving Kofi an opening. Kofi lost control, then Swagger stood on his ankle. Swagger looked to the back and saw Lawler standing on-stage with a crazy look in his eyes. Lawler started walking to the ring as Kofi took advantage of the distraction to nail Trouble in Paradise for the pin.

WINNER: Kingston at 8:24 to retain the U.S. Title. Okay match, but ultimately a set-up for the post-match. (*1/2)

Post-match: Lawler yanked Swagger out of the ring and threw him over the guardrail. Lawler then threw his announcer chair over the Cole Mine into the box. Lawler then grabbed Cole's tie through a peephole and rammed Cole face-first into the panel over and over and over and over again. It was rhythmic. Lawler then hold Cole's face against the panel to give the fans a laugh with a close-up of Cole's face smushed against the panel.

Refs eventually pulled Lawler away and Cole slumped to the floor. Swagger recovered and checked on Lawler, then grabbed the mic and told Lawler he's fired for touching Cole. Lawler, who was being held back by ref Guido, noted he only grabbed Cole's tie. Swagger then spoke on behalf of Cole that he accepts Lawler's match proposal and he'll be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. Cole came to his senses and flipped out on Swagger, wanting to know why he accepted the match. They went to a replay of Lawler yanking Cole by the tie into the glass panel, with his eyes and face smushed like a cartoon. Apparently Lawler vs. Cole is booked for Over the Limit, but they didn't make the date/time/location official.

6 -- ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. REY MYSTERIO vs. THE MIZ -- #1 contender match to WWE Title

Rey escaped the two heels early on, then teased a double 619, but Del Rio cut him off and rolled Rey out of the ring to the floor. Miz tried to roll up Del Rio from behind, but Del Rio escaped at two. Del Rio and Miz traded counters, then Rey entered the ring and flipped around Del Rio for a two count. Lawler noted he feels pretty good about himself getting a match with Cole. Still no official word on whether this is set for Over the Limit. With Del Rio on the outside, Rey and Miz battled in the ring before Del Rio re-entered and threw Rey over the top rope. Del Rio and Miz then battled before a double head-knock put both men on the mat. They cut to break with everyone down & out and the crowd sitting on their hands.

Back from break, Del Rio was working over Rey in the ring while Miz tried to re-enter. Del Rio then knocked Miz off the apron and went back to work on Rey. Del Rio then slipped to the outside and rammed Miz into the ringpost before re-entering the ring to wear down Rey some more. Del Rio then tried a move off the ropes, but Miz pulled down the top rope to bring Del Rio to the floor. In the ring, Miz accepted a kick to the face from Rey, who scored a nearfall. Suddenly, bodies started flying on the outside and all three men recovered on the floor.

Back in the ring, Rey delivered high-flying offense on Del Rio, but it was only good for another two count. Del Rio then shoved Rey away, but Rey responded with a head scissors. Suddenly, Miz snuck into the ring via the top turnbuckle, but Rey sent Del Rio into the turnbuckle to crotch Miz. Lawler then noted Miz can't be happy about the ref in the match being the same ref as last week's WWE Title match. Del Rio then knocked Miz to the floor and followed with the cross arm-breaker on Rey. Miz broke up the submission, though, and popped Del Rio in the face for a two count. Miz stalked Rey for the Skullcrushing Finale, but Rey knocked Miz to the floor. Suddenly, Riley came hobbling down to ringside. Riley checked on Miz on the floor while Del Rio and Rey battled in the ring. Riley got on the apron and Rey flung Del Rio into Riley. Rey then hit 619 on Del Rio, took out Miz on the apron, and climbed up top. Rey hit a splash on Del Rio and made a cover, but Riley yanked Del Rio out of the ring. Miz then snuck in the back door to roll up Rey from behind for the win.

WINNER: Miz at 13:43 to become #1 contender. It was pretty clear where they were going with the story of Riley helping out Miz to make up for his earlier errors. Not a great three-way match with over-use of the "one man out and two men in" format. I'd be happy to see three-way matches go away for a very long time. As for the men in the ring, it was a chance for the wrestlers and WWE to feel out who had good chemistry each other. Miz and Del Rio seemed to work well together stylistically, but the heel vs. heel match-up won't work with a live crowd. (**)

WWE NXT Results: 5-10-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- TITUS O'NEIL vs. DARREN YOUNG

Young's Pro, Chavo, was on commentary for this match. Chavo said he might have been a culprit of kidnapping Hornswoggle six months ago, but he's grown fond of him. The bell sounded and Titus tried to beat some answers out of Young with clubbing forearms to the chest. Titus then shoved Young to the floor and Young acted like he was heading home, but Titus grabbed him and rolled him back into the ring. Titus approached Young and demanded to know where Hornswoggle is, then landed a big clothesline. Titus continued to bully Young before delivering another big clothesline.

Young eventually cut off Titus as Regal and Chavo reminisced about their WCW days when Regal was Lord Steven. Young continued to work over Titus until Titus caught him in an electric chair. Both men sold on the mat as the ref applied a ten count. Titus then tried to fire up the crowd for his comeback before Young scored with a quick roll-up for a three count, giving O'Neil his first loss on NXT5. Young smiled as he left the ring, where Titus continued to act frustrated.

WINNER: Young at 5:23. Above-average NXT match, mainly due to Titus showing some range performing in the ring. The Hornswoggle storyline was a bit silly, but it gave them something to compete over.

2 -- BYRON SAXTON (w/Yoshi Tatsu) vs. CONOR O'BRIAN (w/Kozlov)

Before the match, they flashed back to last week when Saxton told Yoshi he doesn't want his help anymore. Grisham said he was surprised that Yoshi came out with Saxton this week. Saxton completely ignored Yoshi before the bell sounded to start this one off. At 1:30, they cut to a shot of JTG, Chavo, and Kidd on-stage scribbling notes on their clipboards. Meanwhile, Regal, who was celebrating a birthday, dryly thanked the WWE staff for buying him a timeshare in Iraq. At 3:00, Regal gave a wink & a nod to this being a snoozefest by saying the Rookies weren't showing any fire or sense of urgency with an elimination coming next week.

Saxton showed some fire with a comeback at 4:15, but he couldn't put away Conor with a pin attempt. Saxton then came off the top with a clothesline and it was good for the win. Yoshi excitedly entered the ring to celebrate with Saxton, who wanted nothing to do with Yoshi. Nice intensity from Saxton in the post-match.

Saxton then grabbed a mic and reminded Yoshi he's doing this on his own because Yoshi is too distracted with Maryse. Yoshi looked confused. He said it's either the language barrier or Yoshi is just too stupid. Yoshi understood that and got in Saxton's face. Saxton then told him he doesn't want or need him. Regal said that's not smart. Saxton then walked out of the ring selling he was upset.

WINNER: Saxton at 4:50. O'Brian should be gone next week. Just a vacuous character taking up space. Saxton stepped up this week conveying emotion and on the mic.

3 -- WILLIAM REGAL vs. JACOB NOVAK (w/JTG)

Novak danced around the ring, trying to avoid locking up with Regal, who eventually used his veteran skills to knock Novak to the floor. JTG tried to get Novak's head back in the game before re-entering the ring. Novak landed an elbow to the face to take control as they cut to break.

Back from break, Novak scored a two count and settled into a headlock. Well, it was barely a headlock. Regal then escaped and rammed Novak in the shoulder blades to knock him into the corner. JTG shouted at Novak to get back on him and he did so. Regal then made a comeback and raked Novak's forehead across the top rope. Regal got a reaction playing to the crowd, then wanted a t-bone suplex, but Novak blocked and rammed Regal back into the corner. Novak landed an ugly forearm, then Regal stumbled out of the corner. Novak found himself in a bad position, though, and Regal capitalized with the Regal Stretch center-ring. Novak was forced to tap out, drawing frustration from JTG. Afterward, Regal paraded around the ring, fired up after the win, as Novak tried to talk down a frustrated JTG, claiming this isn't over yet.

WINNER: Regal via submission at 6:15. Novak's offense was pretty close to awful, while Regal did his best to cover for Novak's limited abilities in the ring. Novak continues to stand out doing his Slam Master J gimmick, but he isn't anywhere close to ready for the main roster. Regal continues to be a bright spot on a weekly basis.

TNA Impact! Results: 5-12-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- MADISON RAYNE & TARA vs. Knockouts champion MICKIE JAMES & MISS TESSMACHER

Earl Hebner had the referee assignment for this one. The story early on was tension between Mickie and Tara after Mickie set up a "Free Tara" stipulation last week for the KO Title match against Madison at the PPV. Mickie and Tara then shook hands, much to Rayne's dismay. Rayne's anger got the best of her, as Tess scored a quick pin out of nowhere for the win. Rayne flipped out on Tara, who ignored her and left the ring.

WINNERS: Mickie & T at 2:16. Basic set up for Mickie vs. Rayne at the PPV.

2 -- SANGRIENTO vs. SUICIDE

Time for the filler portion of the show, based on the way TNA presented this segment compared to the rest of the show. The announcers reinforced this as filler by focusing on the other big storylines going on in TNA. Sang and Suicide traded offense in and out of the ring early on. Sangriento looked like Waltman with a roundhouse kick in the corner for a two count. The two masked men then traded big moves before Sangriento hit a springboard cutter for the three count and the win.

WINNER: Sangriento at 3:40. Filler highspot match continuing to introduce the Sangriento character.

Interjection: Mick Foley is the rep for 'The Network' and Chyna is Kurt Angle's partner at this Sunday's PPV against Jeff Jarrett and Karen Jarrett.

3 -- ABYSS vs. CRIMSON vs. SAMOA JOE

The bell sounded and Joe started throwing bombs on the other two opponents. Crimson eventually cut him off, then went to work on Abyss. Abyss was knocked down, then Crimson and Joe came face-to-face trading blows. Crimson continued to use a cravate to neutralize Joe, who escaped, only to take the Black Hole Slam from Abyss. Crimson then popped up and speared Abyss before covering Joe for the win.

Post-match: Crimson played to the crowd for seemingly hours as Joe stalked him from behind a la Kurt Angle's TNA debut years ago. Abyss suddenly blindsided Crimson, taking care of Joe's dirty work for the night. Joe gave Abyss the okay, then slipped out of the ring and left. Meanwhile, Abyss dropped Crimson with the Black Hole Slam. The camera zoomed in on Abyss's mouth, where there was a huge gap due to his lost teeth. Wolfman stood tall ahead of the singles match vs. Crimson at the PPV.

WINNER: Crimson at 2:29.

4 -- 25-MAN BATTLE ROYAL -- #1 contender to TNA World Title

The bell sounded and Tenay noted he doesn't think Eric Young realizes he's in the battle royal. Morgan quickly eliminated British Invasion, then chucked out Orlando Jordan after he tried to rub up against Morgan. Morgan then took out Anarquia. Tenay recapped the program's name change to Impact Wrestling and said "massive changes are coming" and they can only wonder what's next starting next week. Young finally decided to enter the match after running the ropes a la Ultimate Warrior. Morgan was just towering over everyone here. Meanwhile, Young kept doing ten punches in the corner on anyone he could find.

Neal went flying out. Hernandez then press-slammed Moore on to Neal. Moments later, Morgan emphatically disposed of Robbie E. Young, after skinning the cat, eliminated TV champ Gunner. Young then flipped in and out of the ring a la the Tough Enough Skills Challenge before eliminating himself. Young grabbed the TV Title from Val and left, with Gunner giving chase. More of the battle royal up next.

Tenay welcomed viewers back to "Impact Wrestling" with about the same number of wrestlers still in the ring. Karen made a save for Jeff from ringside as bodies continued to move around in the ring. Suddenly, Kaz went flying over the top rope and he quickly grabbed his left knee to sell an injury. Hardy and Storm then eliminated each other and referees had to separate them. Hardy then snuck back into the ring to eliminate Roode, who chased Hardy away.

Suddenly, Mick Foley was on commentary. Foley said wrestling does matter and he's looking forward to what goes on in the ring. Morgan then clotheslined Hernandez over the top. Meanwhile, Scott Steiner dumped Morgan. Ray then eliminated Steiner from behind. They were down to about eight men. Meanwhile, Morgan rammed Steiner into the base of the announce table. The camera focused on Ray, who held up Anderson for Dreamer to deliver right hands to the gut. Foley said he wants to settle things inside the ring now. With a battle royal? The battle royal continued with Pope eliminating Devon. Pope had a good laugh, then Angle stalked Pope and eliminated him over the top rope. The commercial break music played as the camera zoomed in on Dreamer slowly walking around the ring sporting his over-sized t-shirt. Yes, Impact Wrestling is back after the break.

Back from break, Tenay said Ray almost eliminated Angle during the break. Taz added there was not an elimination during the break. Dreamer focused on Styles while the other wrestlers took a breather. Moments later, Dreamer eliminated Styles per Ray's instructions. Ray then eliminated Dreamer to screw him over. So, it was Angle, Jarrett, Anderson, and Ray in the final four. Styles and Dreamer fought ringside while Angle and Jarrett paired off and Anderson and Ray paired off in the ring.

Karen got involved trying to prevent Jarrett from being thrown over the top. Jarrett then shoved Anderson through the middle ropes, so Anderson was safe. Ray was also shoved through the ropes. In the ring, Angle and Jarrett battled as the last two unofficially in the ring. Karen got involved again from the outside, so Angle was distracted. Jarrett then eliminated Angle. Cue up the Jarretts with a pre-mature celebration. Chyna eventually slid into the ring and dumped Jarrett over the top rope. Apparently that counted as an elimination. Chyna then grabbed Karen, but Jeff pulled Karen to safety. The Jarretts went running for the hills, then Chyna and Angle headed to the back.

So, it was down to Anderson and Ray, who crawled into the ring together. They traded blows as Tenay said "someone is leaving Impact Wrestling" with a future title shot. Ray eventually knocked down Anderson before trying to eliminate him, but Anderson saved himself and landed a right hand blow. Anderson then wanted a top rope dive, but Ray got his knees up. Anderson saved himself from elimination standing on the ring apron, then Anderson slowly pulled Ray over the top rope and Ray hit the ground to give Anderson the win.

WINNER: Anderson at 28:05 to become #1 contender to the TNA World Title after Sacrifice. The show might have a different name, but it's the same illogical booking. Chyna, who was not in the match, eliminates Jarrett and the announcers don't blink an eye? Overall, an awful start to the abrupt "Impact Wrestling" initiative with a three-way and battle royal following the announcement. One audience (people who knew about the change from the TV taping last week) were sent mixed signals about what exactly was changing for two weeks. The other audience (casual viewers who don't follow the product online) were taken off-guard by a random announcement that really didn't mean anything at the end of the day. TNA will have to do a better job explaining this to their entire audience in the weeks to come.

WWE Superstars Results: 5-12-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- TRENT BARRETA vs. TYSON KIDD (w/Michael P.S. Hayes)

Basic mat wrestling to start as Hayes leaned against the apron surveying the start of the match. Kidd then rolled out of the ring and received some instructions from Hayes. Matt Striker noted Hayes's background as a heel before Korpela broke down Hayes's wrestling background. Barreta scored with a dropkick, then a double clothesline put both men on the mat. Ref Nunzio administered a ten count, then Kidd landed a corner attack drawing a smile from Hayes.

Back from break, Kidd maintained control on Barreta as Hayes continued to look on. Kidd then hung Barreta upside down in the corner and they went to a unique camera shot right behind Barreta to show him hung upside down. Barreta escaped, then flipped up top and scored with a moonsault splash for a two count. Hayes shook his head, then Barreta followed with a corner elbow smash on Kidd. Barreta then found himself in the ropes, where Kidd executed an overhead release suplex for another nearfall.

Barreta escaped the Sharpshooter and rolled up Kidd for a close two count. Kidd came right back with a leg whip, then wanted a springboard elbow smash, but Barreta got his knees up. Barreta with a flying leg kick, and it was good for a two count only. Barreta tried to follow with his Dudebuster DDT, but Kidd countered into the Sharpshooter for the submission win.

Post-match: Hayes smirked and walked into the ring to congratulate Kidd on the hard-fought win. After a replay of the high points in the match, Hayes gave Kidd some post-match wisdom before they called it a night.

WINNER: Kidd via submission at 9:44. Very good nearfalls at the end of this one. Hayes didn't look comfortable in his role at times and the chemistry between Kidd and Hayes needs some time to develop, assuming this lasts longer than one week as McMahon's Flavor of the Week idea. (**1/2)

2 -- KOZLOV vs. ZACK RYDER

After the opening bell, Kozlov stalked his prey, prompting Ryder to back away to the corner. Mathews plugged Ryder's YouTube show, but said he doesn't like that Stanford is on the show. Stanford said Mathews should come up with a hidden talent to be featured on the program. Ryder started getting frustrated with Kozlov's attack and shouted in his face, "You serious?!" Kozlov responded with serious head butts to the chest, followed by a clothesline over the top rope to the floor.

On the floor, Kozlov tried to run Ryder into the ringpost, but Ryder slipped out and rammed Kozlov forehead-first into the post. Back in the ring, Ryder quickly seized an opening to inflict more pain on Kozlov. After some stomps and kicks, Ryder scored with a neckbreaker for a nearfall before locking in a rear naked choke. Kozlov escaped, but fought some knees to the face in the corner. Ryder tried ten punches, but Kozlov shoved him away, then flipped him over the top rope to the floor.

On the floor, Kozlov quickly threw Ryder back inside the ring. Suddenly, Curt Hawkins ran down to ringside and grabbed Kozlov's foot. Kozlov threw him away, but turned his back to Ryder. Ryder took advantage with the Rough Ryder and it was good for the win. Post-match: Hawkins and Ryder celebrated ringside as Stanford quickly revisited their tag team background. Ryder taunted Kozlov from the floor, saying the "Broskis are back."

WINNER: Ryder at 5:00. Better-than-expected for a potentially awkward match-up. It will be interesting to see if the Broskis can get some TV time on Raw or if they'll simply do tag work on Superstars going forward. It's definitely a step forward for Hawkins, but it could be a step back for Ryder if WWE doesn't do something with the reunited tandem. (*)

3 -- CHRIS MASTERS vs. DREW MCINTYRE

Stanford noted both men were drafted over from Smackdown and are looking to make a mark on Raw. Stanford also revisited the time when McIntyre was relevant as the "chosen one." He also relayed a storyline from McIntyre's view that he felt he was ruined on Smackdown by the blue brand's politics. Masters teased the Masterlock early on, and McIntyre quickly scampered to the corner to avoid the hold. Masters then followed with a big atomic drop that could have ended McIntyre's family line for a nearfall.

Mac rolled to the outside for a breather. Back in the ring, Mac took out Masters's left knee and began working the joints. McIntyre then wrapped Masters's leg around the ringpost with a figure-four leglock. McIntyre flashed his new evil smile toward the crowd as they cut to break.

Back from break, Stanford said this is a main event compared to Saturday's boxing fight. Let's not push it, Scott. Mac continued to focus his attack on Masters's left knee, but he couldn't put him away. Masters then tried a scoop slam, but he couldn't get any lift on the bad wheel and Mac slammed him to the mat. More damage to the left knee and Mac flashed a smile to the less-than-appreciative crowd.

Mac teased a figure-four, but Masters booted him to the floor. Mac, upset, ran back into the ring to take a spinebuster from Masters. Masters followed with chops, then a sky-high bomb on one leg for a two count. Masters nearly found himself in the Future Shock DDT moments later, but Masters escaped. The two big men then traded backslide attempts, Mac teased the Future Shock again, and Mac eventually ran shoulder-first into the ringpost. Masters slowly followed up with the Masterlock and Mac was forced to give it up. Masters with the win.

Post-match: Stanford claimed Masters got himself noticed with the win here. They replayed Mac's big mistake at the end that allowed Masters to lock in the Masterlock for the win. Back in the ring, Masters admired his work and played to the crowd as Mac recovered on the floor to conclude the show.

WINNER: Masters via submission at 10:36. Exactly what you would expect from Masters and McIntyre. Masters has certainly put in the time on Superstars lately to get a look on the main Raw show, while McIntyre is just filling a slot right now until WWE figures out what to do with him. Good main event, overall. (*3/4)

WWE Smackdown Results: 5-13-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's com plete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- SIN CARA vs. DANIEL BRYAN

The bell sounded and the arena remained bathed in the dark blue mood lighting. It looks amateurish. Bryan and Cara exchanged holds early on before Cara executed a handspring elbow smash that sent Bryan to the floor. Cara then came flying over the top rope with a flip dive that dropped Bryan on the floor. Chavo said that was impressive. They cut to break two minutes in.

They returned from break four minutes later with Cara landing a series of head butts to the mid-section in the corner. Bryan then came off the top with a big missile dropkick for a nearfall. Bryan continued to play the aggressor landing multiple kick strikes in the corner. The crowd tried to rally behind Cara, who took a corner strike from Bryan for a nearfall. Bryan then applied a surfboard stretch center-ring as Chavo noted that's one of his moves. From the stretch position, Bryan then threw Sin Cara into the air into a bridge suplex pin for a nearfall. That was quite unique. Chavo continued to make notes on what he'll share with Sin Cara after the match.

Bryan wore down Cara some more before re-applying a submission hold targeting the left shoulder. Sin Cara then built some momentum with a comeback before Bryan landed a European uppercut. Sin Cara came back with an enziguiri kick from the apron before nailing a springboard cross-body for a close two count. Sin Cara then went for another handspring elbow, but Bryan blocked with a submission attempt. Sin Cara fought the hold, flung Bryan to the outside, then slid to the floor, but Bryan popped him with a kick strike.

Back in the ring, Bryan went for a springboard move, but Chavo grabbed his foot. Bryan flung Chavo away, but the distraction gave Sin Cara an opening to deliver a step-up enziguiri kick on Bryan. Sin Cara then approached Bryan up top, waited for the crowd to rise to their feet, and Sin Cara executed his back flip press slam from the top rope for the pin and the win.

WINNER: Sin Cara at 11:48. Very nice TV match that really could have made a difference for Bryan if promoted ahead of time. It was interesting seeing Bryan in the aggressor role being able to show off his offensive arsenal building toward Sin Cara's comeback in the underdog role. Chavo and Sin Cara have an interesting little story going with Chavo trying to hitch his wagon to a hot new star, which will lead to Chavo turning on Sin Cara for not accepting his counsel. (**1/2)

2 -- Intercontinental champion WADE BARRETT (w/The Corre) vs. WWE tag champion KANE -- non-title match

Kane went to work on Barrett early on as the announcers continued to debate Jackson's cut. Booker then demanded Slater and Gabriel be removed from ringside since they don't have a manager's license. Cole of course jumped on that with a sarcastic laugh and said it's not 1985. Some of the follow-up commentary was disjointed, apparently from post-production edits, and the show cut to break with Barrett recovering on the floor.

Back from break, Barrett was working on Kane's left shoulder, trying to wear him down. Cole continued to rant & rave that Corre does not need Ezekiel Jackson. Kane fought back from his knees against Barrett, who then caught him with a sidewalk slam for a two count. Kane then came back with clotheslines in the corner followed by his own sidewalk slam.

Corre provided a distraction, though, and Barrett teased Wasteland, but Kane slipped out and landed a boot to the face. Kane then bailed to the floor and smashed the former tag champs. Kane climbed back into the ring, climbed up top, and landed a flying clothesline. Kane called for the end, but Corre hit the ring for an attack, drawing a DQ.

Post-match: Corre went after Kane like a pack of wolves for a few moments. The crowd was looking for a save here. Barrett then lifted up Kane and delivered Wasteland center ring. Next, Slater positioned Kane in the corner and Gabriel made his way up top. Before Gabriel could set up, Ezekiel Jackson's music hit and Zeke stormed the ring to attack Slater and Gabriel. Jackson and Heath had a bit of an awkward tussle before Jackson cleared both of them from the ring. Barrett attacked Jackson, though, to cut him off. Barrett turned his back and Jackson attacked him before Slater and Gabriel saved Barrett.

Corre beat down Jackson like a pack of wolves. Ref Armstrong tried to get Corre out of the ring, but Slater delivered his finisher on Jackson. Gabriel then went up top and measured Jackson before delivering his 450 splash. Slater screamed down that Zeke's not so big now. Barrett, Slater, and Gabriel then stood tall in the ring before their music played.

WINNER: Kane via DQ at 8:57. Corre had a better week than Nexus, that's for sure. The match itself was above-expectations, although Kane remains physically limited in the ring. (*1/2)

3 -- CODY RHODES vs. TED DIBIASE

The two men locked up as Cole recapped their Legacy background. Meanwhile, ringside fans were shown wearing the bags. In the ring, Rhodes and DiBiase traded pin attempts before Rhodes took time to scream out to the fans to put the paper bags on. Rhodes then blasted DiBiase with a step-up enziguiri kick out of the corner. Rhodes followed up with Cross Rhodes and it was good for the win.

WINNER: Rhodes at 3:15. Pretty much a squash win for Rhodes, who continues to carry himself like a future top heel on Smackdown. Meanwhile, DiBiase is stuck in no-man's land as neither face nor heel, nor relevant. (*)

4 - World Hvt. champion RANDY ORTON & CHRISTIAN vs. SHEAMUS & MARK HENRY

Sheamus and Christian started things off in the ring feeling each other out. Meanwhile, Booker picked up a discussion disagreeing with Teddy Long booking the World Title match last week. Cole pulled a TNA defending Long that it's about business, TV ratings, and "the product." That unproductive "insider talk" on a wrestling show is made even more eye-rolling coming from Heel Cole. Orton tagged in and confidently decked Henry on the mat. Orton flashed a smile toward Sheamus, but then found himself on the floor. Booker halted the conversation to stress Orton was in peril as they cut to break.

Back from break, Henry was dominating Orton center-ring. Henry missed with a big splash, though, and Orton made a tag to Christian. Henry wouldn't go down after some clotheslines, so Christian went to the second rope to deliver a big dropkick. The heels then cut off Christian and began working him over in their corner. Nice work from Henry and Sheamus keeping things interesting as they tagged in and out. Christian then escaped Sheamus and made a tag to Orton, who came in hot on Sheamus.

Orton knocked Henry off the ring apron, then caught Sheamus with the snap powerslam. Sheamus found himself on the apron, where Orton tried the spike DDT, but Sheamus slipped out and hit the Irish Curse backbreaker for a two count. Sheamus then stalked Orton for the Brogue Kick, but Orton ducked and Sheamus spilled over the top rope. Orton then capitalized with a spike DDT from the middle rope. Orton wanted the RKO, but Sheamus shoved him away and Christian blind-tagged in. Christian snuck up behind Sheamus and dropped him with the Unprettier as Orton simultaneously (off by a second or two) dropped a charging Henry with the RKO. Christian with the cover on Sheamus for the win.

Post-match: Christian and Orton had their hands raised before they came together for a friendly stare down. Orton extended his hand and Christian accepted. Orton then put the World Title belt out there for Christian to get a good look at. Christian smirked as the show closed with the two men standing tall center-ring.

WINNER: Christian & Orton at 15:02. Fine tag match continuing to build tension between Christian and Orton ahead of their face vs. face title encounter in nine days. The interesting story beneath the surface is Christian being too calm and respectable of Orton for someone who had his title dream shattered last week, as Booker pointed out. It makes Christian a subtly dangerous title contender capable of exploding at any moment, which is a nice touch. If Cole were removed from the equation distracting from the TV stories, the announcers could actually reinforce that intriguing plotline. Meanwhile, Sheamus could use a few credible wins to re-establish his dominance and finishing moves on Smackdown before he becomes a difference-maker on the show. (**)

TNA Sacrifice PPV Results: 5-15-11 (next three posts)

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's ongoing report).

1 -- MEXICAN AMERICA (HERNANDEZ & ANARQUIA w/KO tag champs Sarita and Rosita) vs. INK, INC. (SHANNON MOORE & JESSE NEAL)

The women got involved early and often, but Moore and Neal were able to make comebacks following the heels gaining illegal advantages. Moore then hit a springboard moonsault on Hernandez ringside that drew a reaction. Sarita then took her interference a step forward by slipping into the ring to attack Moore from behind with the ref distracted. HernArquia took advantage of the third instance of interference to isolate Moore for an extended length of time. Moore then avoided a top rope attack and hit a moonsault on Anarquia. Neal hot-tagged into the match and clobbered the heels. The action broke down with some awkward spots ensuing. Rosita then interfered again and the action broke down even further. Eventually, Hernandez gave Neal a shoulderbreaker and scored the win.

WINNERS: Hernandez & Anarquia at 9:39. That was pretty laughable at times. Awkward spots, Anarquia continues to look like a bad independent wrestler with a deer-in-the-headlights look, there was enough blatant interference to fill an entire PPV, plenty of referee incompetence, and a decision that ultimately meant nothing. A flying start for the Impact Wrestling era with the same ol', same ol' in TNA. (*)

2 -- BRIAN KENDRICK vs. ROBBIE E. (w/Cookie)

Kendrick started the match seated in the ring covering himself with his karate gi. Robbie screamed at him to wake up, then Kendrick popped him with a clothesline. The announcers continued to talk about this X Division re-definition idea, when all it should be about is winning and losing matches. Kendrick continued to wrestle in his robe before finding himself on the floor face-to-face with a screaming Cookie. Back in the ring, Kendrick found a clothesline from Robbie that sent Kendrick back to the floor. Robbie waited for Kendrick to re-enter the ring and the camera picked up on Kendrick having a big cut across his lip.

Kendrick, still in his robe, was victimized by the robe when Robbie choked him with it before throwing him to the floor. Robbie executed a suplex on the floor, then Cookie put a boot in Kendrick's throat. Kendrick, crawling on the floor looking like a small child in his over-sized robe, then landed a standing kick when Robbie tried to follow out. Back in the ring, Kendrick came off the top with a missile dropkick, then he dramatically dropped the robe at 5:55.

They came to a standstill and appeared to call for the finish. Moments later, Robbie cut off Kendrick and wanted a neckbreaker, but Kendrick shoved him off and landed a leg whip for the pin. Post-match: Kendrick resumed a yoga position to re-enter his trance as blood covered his mouth. Kendrick grabbed ref Hebner's arm, then extended his hand to Robbie, who asked what's wrong with him. They eventually played tug-of-war with Cookie before Robbie rescued her to safety.

WINNER: Kendrick at 6:41. That was so bizarre. It came across like amateur hour out there. Kendrick does a great job with his character, but, like Eric Young, there's no context to the character since there's no foundation to what goes on in TNA. (*1/2)

3 -- Knockouts champion MICKIE JAMES vs. MADISON RAYNE -- Knockouts Title match -- if Mickie wins, Tara is free from Rayne

Moments after the bell sounded, Tara came to ringside, which drew a stern tongue-lashing from Madison. Mickie and Rayne went back and forth early on before the ref was bumped. Madison then tried to use an illegal object from the outside, but Tara yanked it away from her. Champ and challenger traded close nearfalls before Tara entered the ring with a loaded glove. She acted conflicted on which wrestler to pop, then she dropped Madison and Mickie made the cover for the win. Ringside, Tara celebrated her freedom while Mickie celebrated with the belt.

WINNER: James at 6:57 to retain the KO Title. Same ol' interference-filled booking continues tonight. The silver lining was a good payoff for viewers interested in seeing Tara finally drop Madison. (*1/2)

4 -- X Division champion KAZARIAN vs. MAX BUCK -- X Division Title match

Max continued to play up his cocky heel persona flashing a smirk to the camera after early offense against Kaz. The announcers continued to promote the ridiculous X Division vs. Bischoff storyline, with the wrestlers having to "prove they belong" or needing to "earn a spot." TNA should promote itself as such a premiere platform for pro wrestlers to compete that everyone on the roster has already earned a spot and deserves to be featured. That "you're not a star" rhetoric brings down the entire promotion.

At 7:30, Kaz went for his reverse piledriver finisher, but Max escaped and scored with a nearfall on a leg whip. Kaz then popped up and showed some fire, trying to wake up a sleepy crowd. Max then followed up with a running buckle bomb in the corner before executing a snap neckbreaker from the second rope for a two count. Max then went up top and landed a big 450 splash, but Kaz kicked out in time. Max then taunted Kaz, who slowly came to his feet, blocked a suplex, and hung Mux out to dry across the top rope. Kaz followed with a dangerous-looking sunset flip powerbomb that sent the back of Max's head directly into the floor. It wasn't good for a pin, though, as Kaz rolled Max back into the ring and scored a two count. Moments after that scary-looking bump, the crowd chanted, "This is wrestling."

Moments later, Kaz tried the reverse piledriver for a third time, but Max slipped out. Kaz then nailed a Shining Wizard for the pin and the win. Kaz retains. Afterward, the announcers talked up Kaz adjusting his gameplan to finish off Max with a new maneuver. They went to a replay of high points from the match before Tenay went back to asking how Bischoff could disrespect the X Division wrestlers after that match. Kaz was shown holding up the title belt as Tenay said that's what Impact Wrestling is about.

WINNER: Kazarian at 11:21 to retain the X Division Title. Stronger second-half than the first-half. Good nearfalls at the end that actually got a sleepy crowd involved in the action. (**1/2)

5 -- ABYSS vs. CRIMSON

The bell sounded and the two men stayed in their respective corners before meeting center-ring. The match quickly moved to the floor, where Abyss smashed Crimson into the guardrail and ring steps. Back in the ring, Abyss stalked Crimson while also taunting the ringside fans. Abyss landed a big corner splash before going to a neck vice. Crimson eventually broke free and made a comeback before applying his cravate into a neckbreaker for a two count. Crimson missed with a corner attack, then Abyss goozled him and delivered a chokeslam for a nearfall.

It wouldn't be a TNA PPV without Abyss going under the ring in search of a weapon. He rediscovered Janice, much to the crowd's horror. Abyss re-entered the ring with Janice in-hand, scared away ref Mike Posey, and stalked Crimson. Crimson ducked a Janice shot, though, and nailed a spear for a two count. Abyss then cut off Crimson with a boot to the head and wanted the Shock Treatment, but Crimson countered with a Cactus Jack-style double underhook DDT. It was only good for a two count, though.

Abyss stumbled out of the ring after the nearfall, then yanked a curious Crimson head-first across the top rope. Back in the ring, Abyss wanted a Vader Bomb, and he connected. Abyss made the cover, but Crimson kicked out. Crimson slowly made his way to his feet after taking the nearfall, then Abyss missed with a corner attack. Crimson followed with a sky-high bomb and it was good for the win.

WINNER: Crimson at 10:43. Serviceable big-man match. It's typically difficult to pull off a match with big men trading big moves and nearfalls for ten minutes, but it was above-expectations. (**)

TNA Sacrifice PPV Results (continued)

6 -- TNA tag champions BEER MONEY (JAMES STORM & ROBERT ROODE) vs. MATT HARDY & CHRIS HARRIS -- TNA Tag Title match

Harris, who was sporting his old AMW trunks, wanted to start it off with his former tag partner, Storm, but immediately tagged out to Hardy. In the early going, the two teams traded control and the partners tagged in and out throughout. Harris then spewed beer in Storm's face to give the heels control. Harris took advantage by landing some punches on his former tag partner before quickly tagging out.

The action temporarily broke down at 6:00 before Roode scored a close nearfall on Harris with a fisherman suplex. Roode then tried to tag in Storm, but Hardy cut off Storm on the floor. Hardy then resumed control of the match in the ring, working on Roode's lower back. The heels traded tags working on Roode's lower back as Taz discussed Harris not appearing to be in ring shape. Hardy and Roode then bumped heads center-ring for a double knock down. Harris then tagged in and spit in Storm's face.

Roode broke free and tagged in Storm and Harris realized Hardy was nowhere to be found. Storm stalked Harris to finally get his hands on Harris, who took a series of clotheslines. Storm with ten punches from the mount position. Then, six more. Storm continued to wail away at Harris before landing a DDT for a nearfall when Hardy broke up a pin. Roode then tossed Hardy to the floor and put a boot in his chest.

In the ring, Storm landed a sort of twisting DDT from the second rope for a nearfall. Beer Money stalked Harris for the DWI, but Hardy broke it up. Hardy with the side effect on Roode. Storm countered Twist of Hate with a backstabber, then Harris dropped Storm with a spinebuster. Roode followed with a better spinebuster on Harris. Beer Money then did their chant before setting up Harris for the DWI. Storm had second thoughts and went up top for the old-school AMW guillotine leg drop. Storm with the cover on Harris for the win.

WINNERS: Beer Money at 13:51. Beer Money didn't exactly have good opponents to work with, so the match was below their standards. Harris looked very rusty, which is being nice, and the match didn't seem to have any flow leading to the finish. The crowd didn't really buy into the match story since Harris was randomly re-introduced on TV this week and most people probably had no idea who Harris is. The payoff for Storm would have been stronger with some foresight to re-introduce Harris ahead of time. (**)

7 -- A.J. STYLES vs. TOMMY DREAMER -- No DQ match

The bell sounded and the two men came face-to-face. Styles yelled in Dreamer's face, then Dreamer paced the ring before locking up. Dreamer sold reluctance to really give it to Styles, who screamed in his face. Styles then caught Dreamer in an armbar and Dreamer begged for a break, but ref Jackson James said it's No DQ. Dreamer continued to beg, then Styles dropped the hold and screamed at him to wrestle. Styles tried to follow with a corner attack, but Dreamer dropped him with a standing kick that folded up Styles on the mat. Dreamer then picked up an attack and scored a few nearfalls.

Styles shook off the attack and landed a dropsault before landing a plancha on the floor. Styles showed intensity shouting to the crowd, trying to wake them up. Still on the floor, Styles threw water in Dreamer's face. The announcers brought up EV2 and Taz said under his breath that ship has sailed...thankfully. Styles then crotched Dreamer across the guardrail before sliding underneath the guardrail to deliver a springboard elbow smash off the guardrail. "How do you get spring off a steel guardrail?" Tenay said.

The action moved up the steps up of the IWZ into the bleacher seats, clearing a few tourists. Styles clotheslined Dreamer over the bleacher railing and Dreamer landed on the floor with a thud. Styles tried to follow up, but Dreamer rammed him into the base of the bleachers. Dreamer dumped Styles back to ringside, then went looking for a trash can filled with weapons. Styles, who had a cut around his left eye, proceeded to dropkick the trash can into Dreamer's face. Styles then went looking for a table under the ring that he introduced into the ring. Some people in the crowd chanted for fire, apparently still stuck in 1998. Styles then went running off the table with a corner splash on Dreamer, which drew a reaction from the crowd. Styles tried a suplex onto the table, but Dreamer countered with a DDT.

Dreamer retrieved a fork, flashing back to when Styles used a fork on Dreamer. Dreamer taunted Styles with it, but Styles blocked Dreamer and cracked a trash can over Dreamer's head. Styles then wanted a Styles Clash into the table, but Bully Ray stormed the ring and popped Styles with a chain. Daniels then came running into the ring to chase off Ray. Back in the ring, Dreamer set up Styles for a piledriver through a table that seemed to take more out of Dreamer than Styles. Dreamer made a cover for the win. Tenay quickly noted the win was due to Ray's interference.

WINNER: Dreamer at 13:04. Did Dreamer just pin Styles in a close-to-the-main-event PPV match in the year 2011? As for the weapons and stunt bumps, it's long over-due for TNA - and pro wrestling in general - to move on from this type of match. (*1/2)

8 -- JEFF JARRETT & KAREN JARRETT vs. KURT ANGLE & CHYNA -- Mixed tag match

The bell sounded and the crowd was awake for Angle, who flashed a big smile to Jeff, who continued to sell concern with the proceedings here. The fans taunted Karen with a chant of, "Chyna's gonna kill you." Taz got confused on the chant and declared it's all fun & games at Sacrifice. The crowd then chanted for Chyna and Angle obliged. Karen opted not to enter the ring and dipped to the outside trying to avoid Chyna, who was patient in the ring waiting for Karen. Jeff sold concern as Karen slowly approached the ring apron.

Suddenly, Jeff was legal, making Kurt legal. Jeff put the boots to Kurt before hugging it out with Karen. Kurt then slapped on an anklelock and Karen entered the ring, which occupied Kurt's attention. Kurt tried to bring Karen to Chyna, but Jeff cut off Kurt at the knees from behind. The crowd chanted for Chyna again while Jeff continued to work on Kurt. The two men traded control of the match before Angle landed an Angle Slam for a two count. "Get up!" Karen screamed.

Kurt then dragged Jeff to the corner and Jeff used a mule kick behind the ref's back. Kurt crawled over to Chyna, though, and Chyna entered the match. Chyna nearly injured everyone on a scoop slam to Jeff, but followed with a better suplex on Jeff. Chyna then stalked Karen into the ring where Karen found Kurt as a roadblock. Kurt gave directions to Chyna, who landed a big corner splash on Karen. Next was a DDT of sorts before stereo anklelocks were applied. The Jarretts tapped out, giving Kurt and Chyna the win. Taz said ex-husbands are rejoicing around the world. More of that women-hating theme from TNA's writers. After a replay, Kurt and Chyna left the ring in celebratory mode. Meanwhile, Jeff checked on Karen, who remained face-down in the ring.

WINNERS: Angle & Chyna at 10:19. Solid payoff for people who paid to see the Jarretts get their comeuppance and/or see a bit of Chyna, who was clearly limited in what she was capable of doing. TNA smartly limited her exposure and saved her big spots for the end of the match. It was also a night-off for Angle, who needs to be protected in the ring considering his health. This was the first match on the card the audience truly invested in, and it featured someone (Chyna) who had never been in the company before last week's TV. (n/a)

TNA Sacrifice PPV Results (concluded)

9 -- TNA World Hvt. champion STING vs. ROB VAN DAM -- TNA World Title match

Sting and Rob started with a feeling-out process before RVD acted cocky turning his back on Sting to pose in the corner. Sting then locked up and shoved him to the floor. RVD calmly paced the ringside area before returning to the ring to deliver a martial arts kick to Sting. RVD then posed some more and continued to play up a cocky demeanor. Anderson noted RVD is taking a different approach here. RVD resumed an attack with kicks and strikes in the corner. RVD missed with a corner attack in the opposite corner and spilled to the floor.

The action spilled into the stands where Sting did the same spot Dreamer did on Styles whipping him into the base of the grandstands. RVD reversed a second whip and both men collapsed to the floor. RVD was selling a right knee injury after missing with an earlier guillotine leg attempt. And the two men walked up the steps into the grandstands to continue their brawl. Did the agents who put together Dreamer-Styles and Sting-RVD not come together and make sure this walking-brawl style match was protected for the main event so Styles-Dreamer didn't take away the novelty of seeing this? The two men continued to brawl in the stands before eventually making it back to ringside. Ref Hebner was letting it all go since there typically would have been a count-out by now.

Back in the ring, RVD climbed up top and nailed a martial arts kick that floored Sting. Rob wanted Rolling Thunder, but Sting got his knees up to block. Sting then came to his feet and pounded his chest to fire up the crowd. Sting made his comeback and tried a Stinger Splash, but RVD countered with a roundhouse kick to intercept Sting. Sting and RVD traded control, then they slipped on a Scorpion Death drop spot. It hit the crowd with a thud. Sting then picked up RVD and re-executed the Death drop. Sting made a cover and it was good for a win, which seemed anticlimactic coming right after the botched spot.

WINNER: Sting at 12:43 to retain the TNA World Title. Obviously better than PPV title defense #1 vs. Hardy and better than PPV title defense #2 last month vs. RVD and Anderson. But, the walking-brawl mid-way through the match took away from what could have been an opportunity for Sting and RVD to prove something in a singles main event spotlight. Instead, it came across like a cheap way to get through a main event going longer than ten minutes. (**)

Post-match: They went to a replay of the big spots in the match as Anderson noted he has something special for Sting this Thursday on Impact. Sting and RVD then shook hands and embraced in the ring as Anderson decided to go ahead and congratulate the champ. Anderson left the broadcast position and made his way to the ring. The trademarks flashed on the screen as Anderson entered the ring. Anderson and Sting then came face-to-face. The PPV signed off with Sting leery of Anderson, who just flashed a mild smile toward him.

WWE RAW Results: 5-16-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- U.S. champion KOFI KINGSTON vs. C.M. PUNK -- non-title match

Kofi knocked Punk to the floor 35 seconds into the match, then Nexus started walking toward the ring, but Punk told them to back up and stay put. Kofi waited for Punk to turn around and delivered a dropkick through the ropes. Punk then cut off Kofi back in the ring and started working on Kofi's upper body with mat holds and strikes. Cole re-visited the "faith" talking about Punk's Nexus leadership, then Kofi dropkicked Punk off the top rope. Kofi followed with a high cross-body splash on Punk for a two count before hitting the Boom Drop. Kofi then set up for Trouble in Paradise, but Punk ducked. Kofi then got himself hung up in the top turnbuckle, allowing Punk to set up for the G2S and connect. Punk made the cover and scored the win.

Post-match: Nexus celebrated on-stage as Punk had his hand raised. Cole continued to uncomfortably equate Punk to Jesus, complete with a Doubting Thomas reference about the other Nexus members not showing faith. Punk was then shown sitting on the stage. He took the mic and said that was an example of leadership by example. Punk said he's heard all the rumors about Nexus not being formidable. He said he's doing things his way from now on. Punk said he won't stop until each member of Nexus is the most dominant force the WWE Universe has ever seen.

WINNER: Punk at 3:53. A typical WWE television match using a wrestling match as the means to advance or reinforce a storyline typically found in a drama series. The result could set up Kofi vs. Punk in a re-match for the U.S. Title at Over the Limit to help fill out the undercard. (*1/2)

2 -- KELLY KELLY vs. Divas champion BRIE BELLA (w/Nikki Bella) -- non-title match

After some basic back-and-forth, Kelly awkwardly trapped Brie with a leg scissors for a quick pin in under two minutes. Post-match: Kharma's music interrupted and she slowly entered the ring to evaluate her options. Kharma eventually selected Brie, causing Nikki to freak out and run away. Kharma delivered the implant buster while Nikki ran away. Kharma then stalked Kelly, who backed away in the corner. Kharma sized her up, flicked her forehead, and walked off doing her maniacal laugh, leaving Kelly breathless from fear.

WINNER: Kelly at 1:52. Basic Divas match as a means to the post-match, which continued Kharma's dual quest to apparently get the Divas Title and play mind games with the blonde Divas. (n/a)

3 -- ALBERTO DEL RIO vs. REY MYSTERIO

Rey scored with an early head scissors followed by a kick strike to the chest. Del Rio missed with a corner attack, but rebounded to catch Rey with a fallaway single arm DDT targeting the shoulder. Mathews sent the show to break, but they stayed with Del Rio scoring a dropkick to Rey's shoulder. Now the break squeezed in before the top of the hour.

Back from break, Del Rio was still working over Rey's shoulder. Rey built some steam looking for a comeback, but Del Rio cut him off with a boot to the head for a two count. Del Rio then reapplied a neck vice targeting the shoulder as they hit the top of the hour.

The crowd chanted, "619, 619," as Del Rio continued to wear down Rey. Mathews, who continues to play a spineless announcer drifting back and forth between heel and face, talked up Del Rio's wealth, which drew an annoyed, "What?" response from Lawler. Rey then popped Del Rio in the mouth, then Del Rio went flying through the ropes attempting a dropkick. Ricardo came flying around ringside to check on Del Rio, then R-Truth's voice suddenly interrupted. Truth was way up in the skyboxes accusing Rey of being a thief...a thief for stealing his spot. Truth told someone to call the cops. "Is he crazy?" Lawler asked under his breath.

Meanwhile, Del Rio slipped back into the ring and Rey landed a flying cross-body for a close two count. Rey then climbed up top and landed a seated sentaun into a head scissors. Rey had Del Rio set up for the 619, but Ricardo got in the way to intercept Rey, drawing a DQ. Post-match: Del Rio rammed Rey into the ringpost as Rey was announced as the winner. Del Rio then came off the top with a dive to Rey's injured shoulder. Del Rio flashed a big smile before leaving the ring.

As Rey recovered, the crowd then tried to warn Rey, who was attacked from behind by R-Truth. Truth verbally and physically beat down Rey before landing Paydirt center-ring. Truth was serenaded with boos before he leaned out for a mic. Truth asked Rey what he's doing. "Who do you think you are?" he asked. "Challenging me? No one challenges the Truth. I make the challenges, Rey. Just like I showed you tonight - look at me! - this Sunday, you gonna get got." Truth then popped Rey in the head with rapid-fire fist shots to send a message ahead of the PPV. Lawler noted he's not right in the head. Truth then slowly left the ring to boos while muttering under his breath about Rey taking his spot.

WINNER: Rey via DQ at 9:26. Basic match between Rey and Del Rio setting up the post-match with Truth, who is so great in his role. As for the pre-match discussion between Rey and Del Rio, WWE is clearly targeting the Hispanic audience, with WWE trying to heavily promote Mysterio as the babyface to rally behind. The promo dipped close to the lowest common denominator level typical with TNA's Mexican America faction, but the overall segment was effective setting up Rey for revenge against Truth on Sunday and Del Rio down the road. (*1/2)

4 -- WWE tag champions BIG SHOW & KANE vs. NEXUS (MICHAEL MCGILLICUTTY & DAVID OTUNGA w/Mason Ryan and C.M. Punk) -- non-title match

Kane blasted Mike with an early uppercut, followed by a scoop slam and running boot to the head for a nearfall. Show then tagged in and landed a big slap to Mike's chest. Mike then responded with a boot in the corner, followed by a chopblock to the back of the knee. Otunga tagged into the match to continue targeting Show's left knee. Otunga wasted a lot of movement dancing around Show before tagging Mike back in. Meanwhile, Cole continued to try to place nice with Lawler on commentary. Nexus's B-Team maintained control of Show's left knee, then Otunga decided he would try to target the right knee. Show fought him off, then executed a desperation belly-to-back side suplex.

Kane hot-tagged into the match and dropped Mike, who also tagged in, with a sidewalk slam for a nearfall. Kane then came off the top rope with a clothesline before giving Otunga a big boot. Nexus ran interference, which allowed Punk to smash Kane from behind. Mike followed with a blow to the head and it was good for the win. Post-match: Mike and Otunga celebrated in the ring as Punk tried to get everyone together to leave before Kane and Show woke up. Punk then taunted the tag champs from the entrance ramp ahead of their tag title match on Sunday.

WINNERS: Nexus at 4:48. Well, this week, WWE is trying to revive Nexus, but whether it's just a one-week gig to set up the Tag Title match remains to be seen. The whole faction just seems so last week after all the damage done to Nexus over the past six months since the TLC PPV in December.

5 -- WWE champion JOHN CENA vs. JACK SWAGGER -- non-title No Holds Barred match

As Swagger beat down Cena to start the match, Cole heeled on Swagger that he would be nothing without him. The crowd engaged in a loud dueling chant of "Let's go Cena" vs. "Cena sucks" from the usual groups of fans. Swagger landed a Vader Bomb as the broadcast randomly cut to a camera swinging through the crowd to a shot of Miz and Riley standing on-stage. They cut to break with Swagger in control.

Back live, Swagger was wearing down Cena in the ring as Miz looked-on confidently from the stage. They cut to footage from during the break of action on the floor. Swagger then introduced a chair into the proceedings, landing a shot across the back. Swagger measured Cena for another Vader Bomb, this time with the chair on Cena's chest. Swagger landed the bomb, which appeared to hurt him more than Cena, and it was only good for a two count.

Swagger then wedged a chair in-between the turnbuckles, giving Cena an opening. Cena started a comeback, but Swagger caught him in mid-air with a botched suplex that resulted in a two count. Swagger went for the Anklelock, looking to make Cena quit, but Cena flung him away. Cena hobbled to his feet and side-stepped a charging Swagger, who ate the chair in the corner. That was way too close to a self-inflicted chair shot to the head.

At the top of the hour, Cena made his full comeback and waved toward Miz before dropping the Shuffle on Swagger. Cena then dropped Swagger with the Attitude Adjustment while staring down Miz. Cena followed with the STF and Swagger was forced to tap out - or "quit," as Lawler put it.

WINNER: Cena via submission at 11:22. Cole continued to heel on Swagger during the match, suggesting Swagger could still help Lawler win, but WWE sent mixed signals with Swagger tonight. The match was effective showing Cena fighting against a perceived stacked deck to preview the PPV on Sunday. (**)

WWE NXT Results: 5-17-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results and elimination.

1 -- TITUS O'NEIL vs. TITUS YOUNG

Regal wanted to know where Young's Pro, Chavo, is. Meanwhile, Titus demanded Young tell him where Hornswoggle is. Titus continued to beat down Young. Suddenly, Chavo appeared on the Titantron. Apparently Hornswoggle was trapped inside a crate. Or, a sound effect indicated he was inside. Chavo went looking for some bolt cutters . Meanwhile, Titus retrieved Young's key necklace and bolted to the ring. Of course, this resulted in him being counted out.

Post-match: Titus found Hornswoggle in the crate backstage. Titus checked on Hornswoggle, then Chavo ran Titus into the crate. Chavo then sized up Hornswoggle, grabbed him by the beard, and told him he hasn't forgotten everything he did to him. Chavo said he has something real special for him. They cut to Young in the ring as Regal said he actually believed for weeks and weeks that Chavo had found some respect for Hornswoggle. Chavo dragged Horny to the ring, then pulled him up the ring steps into the ring. Once in the ring, Young and Chavo set up Hornswoggle for the frogsplash after tormenting him. Titus finally stormed the ring to make the save, then Chavo and Young bailed from the ring. Titus checked on the fallen Hornswoggle as they cut to break.

WINNER: Young via count-out at 3:11. Interesting twist on NXT's long-running storyline, but ugh on re-visiting the Hornswoggle vs. Chavo feud. Young showed good intensity as the high point of the segment.

2 -- YOSHI TATSU vs. BYRON SAXTON

The bell sounded and the two men locked up. Regal said he doesn't think Saxton is in trouble tonight. He said he'll keep it to himself who he thinks will be cut tonight. Yoshi ripped off a knife-edge chop, then another. Saxton then begged off in an opposite corner and Yoshi stood his ground in the ring subtly telling Saxton to come on and fight. Yoshi absorbed a kick to the gut, then Saxton took control of the match with a hard whip to the corner.

Yoshi fired back with a roundhouse kick to the gut, then brushed Saxton with a flying knee strike to the face for a two count. Yoshi then went up top and nailed his top-rope finisher for the pin and the win. Regal said he hopes Saxton will review the tape and listen to his Pro to learn from his mistakes.

WINNER: Yoshi at 3:28. Nice showcase match for Yoshi being able to control a match and look like a star juxtaposed against his Rookie. Saxton showed good fire, which he's improved the past few weeks.

3 -- KOZLOV (w/Conor O'Brian) vs. JTG (w/Jacob Novak)

They returned from break with Kozlov and JTG in the ring. Apparently now they're having a wrestling match. JTG slapped Kozlov, drawing a return blow from Kozlov. Kozlov then knocked JTG to the floor right at the feet of Novak. Regal caused them a bunch of morons. JTG then shouted at Regal, who told him not to worry about him. Kozlov proceeded to throw JTG back into the ring, but Novak provided a distraction that allowed JTG to bump Kozlov off the ring apron into the announce table.

Back in the ring, JTG wore down Kozlov for a while. JTG then hit the Mug Shot and made a cover, but Kozlov kicked out. JTG continued to wear down Kozlov as Regal noted Novak has no redeeming qualities. Kozlov then no-sold JTG's attack, made a comeback, and landed multiple headbutts to the sternum. JTG slipped out of a shoulderbreaker, though, and landed a neckbreaker for a two count.

JTG went back to wearing down Kozlov before cockily going up top and playing to the crowd. He then came off the top and ate a flying headbutt from Kozlov. Kozlov followed with his Iron Curtain finisher for the pin and the win. Kozlov scores another victory over JTG tonight.

WINNER: Kozlov at 5:14. Fine action. Regal's commentary was the highlight of the night.

Ringside: The Rookies were assembled ringside. Maryse offered some non-thoughts, then Striker cued up the drumroll for this season's first elimination...Jacob Novak has been eliminated. Regal said he's very happy he's gone. Novak pounded the mat in mock anger, then Striker gave him some mic time.

Novak surveyed the arena and said that's twice now the people have shut him out. Novak said maybe NXT isn't the place he gets his redemption, but the bottom line is he will be in WWE and redemption will be he is. Novak said the day they don't flinch is the day he knocks them out. And that day is soon, he claimed.

TNA Impact! Results: 5-19-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- MADISON RAYNE & KO tag champions SARITA & ROSITA vs. KO champion MICKIE JAMES & TARA & MISS TESSMACHER

Prior to the match, the announcers recapped events at Sacrifice when Tara helped Mickie defeat Madison. Also prior to the match, Hernandez and Anarquia came out on-stage in support of Sarita & Rosita before joining commentary. The match built to Tara getting her hands on Madison, then the action broke down in and out of the ring. Suddenly, it came down to Tara, Madison, and Rosita. So, Madison threw Rosita to Tara, who delivered a sit-out bomb for the win. Madison then high-tailed it to the outside to taunt Tara that she can't get her.

WINNERS: Team Tara at 4:19. Simple build-up for the next phase of Tara and Madison's feud. Mickie doesn't have a clear next opponent for the Knockouts Title, though. (*)

2 -- X Division champion KAZARIAN vs. ABYSS -- X Division Title match

The bell sounded and Tenay re-stressed this could be the final X Division Title match. Taz said he agrees with Bischoff the X Division wrestlers need to get out of Bischoff's face. Tenay defended the X Division as a cornerstone of TNA since its inception. The match started and the announcers focused on Bischoff getting in the ring again. "Impact Wrestling: Where Bischoff Matters." Tenay continued to talk up the X Division's roots in TNA while Taz said he believes the X Division guys went about this the wrong way.

In the ring, Kazarian scored a missile dropkick that put both men on the mat. Kaz followed with a huracanrana and springboard back-elbow smash for a two count. Abyss and Kaz traded nearfalls with the crowd mic'ed up to sound very invested in the action. Abyss then caught Kaz with the Shock Treatment, but missed with a corner Vader Bomb. Abyss favored his right knee and the referee demanded Kaz give Abyss some space. Abyss then suckered Kaz in with a boot to the face before landing the Black Hole Slam. Abyss with the cover and the win. Taz wondered aloud about the future of the X Division. Tenay noted Abyss out-smarted Kazarian. Taz weirdly said the Internet is burning up right now. Does TNA think this is like Christian dropping the title after two days? Tenay then wondered if there will even be an X Division anymore after this. Cut to commercial.

WINNER: Abyss at 5:02 to capture the X Division Title. Strike Two... Does TNA think there's interest in an X Division "brand" that general viewers would care if it's here or not? It's about individual feuds with interesting wrestlers striving for goals and championships competing against each other. This whole angle is merely a small-minded attempt by TNA to play to the audience that follows the product closely through the Internet. (*1/2)

3 -- SAMOA JOE vs. AMAZING RED

Red charged Joe, who threw Red across the ring. Joe pounded on Red as Taz noted this is part of Bischoff's plan to destroy the X Division. Meanwhile, Tenay said Kaz is being checked for a back injury after the title match. Joe then nailed the Muscle buster and pinned Red in under one minute.

Post-match: Crimson hit the ring and the fight was on between Joe and Crimson. The bell continued to sound, then Crimson easily lifted Joe up for a t-bone suplex that cleared Joe to the outside. The announcers briefly noted the brotherly storyline relationship between Red and Crimson.

WINNER: Joe at 0:49. One step forward, one step backward for Joe, who looked good in the squash, then looked conquerable with how easily Crimson handled him in the post-match. (n/a)

4 -- ERIC BISCHOFF & MATT HARDY vs. GENERATION ME (MAX BUCK & JEREMY BUCK)

Jackson James (unacknowledged son of Eric) was the referee here. Is there a likable babyface in this match for viewers to root for? GenMe started things off working on Hardy's left arm. Jeremy taunted the non-wrestler, Eric, who pointed at him from the ring apron. Hardy then executed the side effect on Jeremy for a one count. Eric said he wants to finish them off, so Hardy landed another side effect. Hardy then locked in a cravate looking to wear down Jeremy, who fought back, allowing GenMe to double-team Hardy. Taz continued to side with Bischoff as Hardy fought off a two-on-one to resume control of the match. The announcers continued to focus on themselves before Jeremy came off the top with a big splash to Hardy's back for a nearfall.

Tenay suddenly got excited and relayed some information for next week that a big wrestling main event is going down...actually, two non-wrestlers, Hogan and Foley, will both be returning to the show next week. In the ring, Hardy slapped the Ice Pick on Max to wear him down, then tagged in Bischoff for his first appearance in the match. Bischoff measured Max and attempted a roundhouse kick, then another martial arts kick. Careful editing here. Bischoff made the cover on Max and scored a five count for the win. Bischoff, Hardy, and Jackson then stood tall center-ring as Tenay asked if that was the final bullet in the X Division.

WINNERS: Bischoff & Hardy at 6:09.

5 -- ANGELINA LOVE & WINTER vs. VELVET SKY -- handicap match

It's worth noting TNA hasn't announced a main event yet for this week's first official show in the Impact Wrestling era. The crowd tried to rally behind underdog Velvet throughout the match as she faced tough odds. Angelina, whose weakness as a person in a trance is she can't focus on the task at hand, lost control of the match, allowing Velvet to score a quick pin. After the match, a mystery woman suddenly jumped Velvet. It was a returning ODB, who choked her out ringside.

WINNER: Velvet at 4:36.

WWE Superstars Results: 5-19-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Caldwell's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 -- TYSON KIDD (w/Michael Hayes) vs. YOSHI TATSU

Yoshi recovered from the pre-match attack and cleared Kidd to the outside two minutes in. The ref remained heavily mic'ed shouting instructions to Hayes to back it up, then Yoshi delivered a big splash on the outside. On the floor, though, Kidd recovered and delivered a kick strike to the chest. Hayes found himself on the ring apron and started doing his strut. They cut to break with Kidd in control.

Back from break, Yoshi appeared to be asleep locked in a neck vice on the mat. Yoshi fought back to his feet, scored a sudden nearfall to give the fans some hope, then Kidd cut him off to resume the attack. Hayes continued to get involved by antagonizing Yoshi and the ref. Announcer Korpela was incensed - incensed! - by Hayes's constant involvement, demanding the higher-ups do something about this. Yoshi suddenly scored a nearfall with a crucifix pin, but Kidd avoided a follow-up dropkick and went back on the attack.

Kidd then lost control at 7:00 and Hayes tried to shout instructions at Kidd to get moving again. Yoshi then fired off a round of chops followed by a flying roundhouse kick to the head. Yoshi made the cover, but it was only good for a two count. Hayes then threw down his jacket in disgust and shouted at the ref he was quick-counting. Yoshi then went up top and Kidd crotched him. Hayes told Kidd to take it home, and Kidd executed a superplex. Hayes had a big smile on his face, but Yoshi kicked out of a pin attempt, drawing a frown from Hayes.

Kidd then stepped into the Sharpshooter and sat down on the hold center-ring. Yoshi found something extra in the tank and crawled to the bottom rope for a break. Kidd regrouped and went for a splash across the apron, but Yoshi moved out of the way. Suddenly, Yoshi countered an Owen Hart-style backwards roll-up into a small package for a nearfall, then popped up to his feet and nailed his kick strike finisher for the pin and the win.

Post-match: Hayes frowned at Yoshi as he left the ring, then entered the ring to share some words of encouragement for Kidd. Perhaps not, as Hayes picked up Kidd, then slapped him across the face. Hayes picked up his jacket and left the ring, telling Kidd he failed him and he has better things to do. Kidd sold anger as Hayes left to the back.

WINNER: Yoshi at 10:01. Very good ten-minute "TV" match. Superstars's quality of wrestling has certainly improved since being bounced from WGN. It will be interesting to see if WWE keeps the Kidd-Hayes thing going or if this was the end of the managerial experiment. (**1/2)

2 -- MAJOR BROSKIS (ZACK RYDER & CURT HAWKINS) vs. SANTINO & KOZLOV

The announcers noted last week's events when Ryder picked up a win over Kozlov with Hawkins's help, reuniting the tandem. Before ref Nunzio called for the bell, the two teams teased a little skirmish at mid-field during warm-ups, but they were separated to formally begin the match. Santino taunted Hawkins with the Cobra, then delivered a sambo-style takeover. Kozlov tagged in and followed with his own version. Kozlov then shoulder-blocked Hawkins clear through the ropes to the floor. Ryder complained about his Broski partner struggling in the ring as they cut to break.

Back from break, the Broskis were magically in control of the action working over Kozlov. The Broskis continued to work over Kozlov as Scott Stanford noted the match he's most looking forward to at Over the Limit is Cole vs. Lawler. Yes, announcers > entire roster. Santino took a hot tag at 5:00, then the action broke down. Santino delivered the sailor's salute fist drop on Hawkins, then warmed up the Cobra and delivered it. Santino with the pin on Hawkins for the win.

WINNERS: Santino & Kozlov at 5:33. Basic babyface revenge match for Team Kozlov after events last week. And perhaps new material for Ryder on YouTube being partnered again with the weaker link of the Major Bros. team. (*)

3 -- EVAN BOURNE vs. DREW MCINTYRE

Bourne with some early mat wrestling on the much-larger McIntyre, who grabbed a headlock to wear down Bourne before delivering a clothesline. Mac then placed Bourne on the top rope, slowly backed away, and suddenly found Bourne flying at him with a rolling takeover. Mac slipped to the floor to pound the announce table in frustration, then he returned to the ring. McIntyre took a head scissors, but then knocked Bourne to the outside. They cut to break with Mac in control.

Back from break, McIntyre continued to wear down Bourne while flashing his sinister grin. Mac checked the imaginary watch on his wrist to indicate it's time to end it before delivering a terrific delayed vertical superplex. Mac was too cocky making the cover, allowing Bourne to kick out. On the apron, Mac wanted a running move of sorts, but Bourne slipped out and Mac ate the ring steps. Mathews noted he had no idea what McIntyre was looking for there.

Back in the ring, Bourne scored with multiple kick strikes for a two count. Mac recovered in the corner, then the director cut to a corner shot as Bourne came flying into the corner with a basement dropkick. Bourne wanted Air Bourne, but Mac slipped to the outside, and Bourne splashed him on the floor. Back in the ring, Mac blocked a huracanrana attempt into a running buckle bomb. Mac followed right up with the Future Shock DDT for the win. Mac took in the win, then quickly left the ring to taunt the crowd as Stanford signed off for this week.

WINNER: McIntyre at 6:30. Nice match with some good back-and-forth and McIntyre basing well for Bourne's offense. This could easily fill a TV segment on Raw delivering some good action showcasing two under-utilized stars.

Macho Man Randy Savage dies in car accident

"Macho Man" Randy Savage, a professional wrestler who became a fan favorite thanks to his outlandish outfits and trademark catchphrase, died Friday in a car wreck, as first reported by TMZ.

The 58-year-old Savage -- whose legal name was Randy Mario Poffo -- reportedly suffered a heart attack while driving his 2009 Jeep Wrangler in Tampa, Fla., and careened across lanes of oncoming traffic before colliding head-on with a tree. He died later at a local hospital.

Savage's wife Lynn, who was riding in the passenger seat, escaped with only minor injuries. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts and the police do not believe alcohol was a factor.

The World Wrestling Federation favorite from Ohio burst onto the scene in 1985 and quickly drew attention with his flamboyant outfits and "ooh yeah!" catchphrase. His marriage to Elizabeth Hulette, Ms. Elizabeth to fans, was one of the first high-profile wrestler/valet relationships. They divorced in 1992. Savage remarried last year.

He won two WWF championships in his career. His match against Ricky Steamboat in 1987's Wrestlemania III is considered one of the best WWF bouts ever. Savage won the title late that year, setting the stage for memorable battles with Hulk Hogan, who would eventually dethrone him as champion.

World Wrestling Entertainment released an official statement on Friday afternoon.

"WWE is saddened to learn of the passing of one of the greatest Superstars of his time, Randy Poffo, aka Randy "Macho Man" Savage.

One of Macho Man's biggest rivals was Hulk Hogan. Hogan said he and Savage had just started talking again after 10 years.

"He had so much life in his eyes & in his spirit, I just pray that he's happy and in a better place and we miss him," Hogan wrote.

Savage also appeared in memorable ads for Slim Jim and played a wrestler in the 2002 hit film "Spider-Man."

WWE Smackdown Results: 5-20-11

Results courtesy of PWTorch.com (direct link to Park's complete report). Condensed here to in-ring results only.

1 – CHRISTIAN vs. SHEAMUS

During Christian’s entrances, they showed Josh Mathews, Michael Cole and Josh Mathews on camera. They had an inset interview with Sheamus during his interview. Sheamus laid a few knees into the head of Christian within the first 30 seconds of the match. Christian came back by jumping over the ropoes and punching Sheamus, who was caught up in the ropes. Hard back elbow by Sheamus. Christian countered Sheamus, and he went over the top and to the outside. Christian ducked under Sheamus, who was on the apron, and pulled his leg out from under him. Sheamus pushed Christian off the top rope, where he was seated, and Christian tumbled to the outside. They went to break with just under 3:00 gone by in the match.

Back at 6:30 of the match. Big bodyslam by Sheamus for a two-count. Hard forearms across the chest of Christian. Sheamus wrenched the neck, but Christian came back with right hands. He smoothly countered a slam into a reverse DDT for two. To the top when Christian, and he landed a cross-body for a two-count. Springboard sunset flip by Christian for two, but as both men reached their feet, Christian was taken down with an Irish Hammer by Sheamus. Christian flipped out of a suplex but ran into an Irish Curse back-breaker. Christian again sat on the top rope, and fought off Sheamus. Tornado DDT at 11:15. He then went for a cover, and got two. Dive over the top rope and a shoulderblock by Sheamus for two. Sheamus went for his finisher, but Christian registered a small package for the three-count.

WINNER: Christian, at 12:14. Good win for Christian heading into Over the Limit.

After the match, Mark Henry ran out. He and Sheamus proceeded to beat-down Christian. Randy Orton came out slowly, and paced a bit on the stage. He watched the punishment, then ran to the ring. He took out Sheamus, then pushed Henry aside, and he fell through the middle rope. Cole nicely mentioned Orton was conflicted about helping: He said he wanted Christian at 100%, but part of him wanted Christian softened up for Sunday.

2 – BRIE BELLA vs. NATALYA

Brie snuck out the back of a slam by Natalya as Booker ranted about biscuits and syrup in regards to Kharma. Natalya rolled into Brie and got a one-count. Brie slammed Natalya’s hand off the mat, then worked in an arm-bar. Nattie powered out and both women struggled to get to their feet at 1:35. Hard clothesline by Natalya. Discuss clothesline by Natalya, which Cole said was “shades of Jim Neidhart.” As I struggled to remember The Anvil doing that move, Booker asked “…what?” and he also said he never saw Neidhart do that move. Brie snuck into the ropes and kicked Natalya in the knee. Face-buster by Brie for the win.

WINNER: Brie, at 3:02. I don’t know if Natalya would be the one I’d feed to Brie heading into her PPV title match, but Nattie did what she could to keep the match together.

3 – EZEKIEL JACKSON & THE BIG SHOW & KANE vs. THE CORRE

Gabriel drew the short straw to work with Big Show first. Kane was next to go after Gabriel. Gabriel finally tagged out to Slater, who walked into a right hand. Slater tried to leap over Kane, but he landed on Kane’s shoulder. He got down and tagged Barrett. Jackson begged for a tag. The two went toe-to-toe, with Barrett kicking Jackson in the stomach. Jackson ended up clotheslining Barrett over the top rope. Corre attempted to regroup on the outside as they went to break.

The babyfaces were still in control out of break. Corre tried to run interference, but it wasn’t successful. Jackson came in and powered Gabriel down. Once Jackson got the better of Barrett, he tagged out. Kane came off the top with a clothesline. Sidewalk slam for a two-count. Kane was taken to the outside and at 8:10, Gabriel dove over the top and onto him. Barrett tagged in, but his cover was unsuccessful. Slater tried to keep Kane down with a side headlock. Kane suplexed out of it, but Slater made the tag before Kane could capitalize. Barrett came in and he and Kane did the double big-boot spot just short of ten minutes in. Slater came in and pounded on Kane in the corner. Both men made hot tags, and Jackson slammed Gabriel a number of times. Things broke down at the 11:00 mark. Show chokeslammed Slater, then Jackson scoop slammed Gabriel. He got Gabriel in a Torture Rack, and Gabriel tapped.

WINNERS: Jackson, Show, and Kane, at 11:30. There were a lot of very limited guys in there, but they did the best they could.

4 – CHAVO GUERRERO vs. DANIEL BRYAN

The five minute clock was in the bottom left-hand corner of the ring, counting down to zero. Bryan avoided right hand in the corner and Chavo took his time to size up Bryan. High dropkick by Bryan on Chavo, who appears to somehow grow more hair on his head the older he gets. Whip into the buckle by Bryan, but he got caught with Chavo’s boots as he charged in. European uppercut by Chavo. Side suplex followed that as Mathews tried to wade through Cole and Booker’s arguing to call the match. Bryan elbowed out of a side headlock. Chavo rolled through a sunset flip for two. Diving clothesline by Bryan, who followed that with kicks to the chest. Cover for two. Bryan attempted the LeBell Lock with 1:22 remaining. Chavo reached the ropes with his foot, forcing a break. Chavo rolled out as the clock reached 1:00. Bryan dove through the ropes and into Chavo. Chavo dodged dropkick off the top and made a cover for two. He went into the Three Amigos vertical suplexes, not a great idea for a guy with under :30 in the match. Chavo went to the top and landed the frog splash with nine seconds left. Bryan kicked out of the first one, a surprise, then Chavo went for another cover with four seconds to go. Bryan kicked out again to end things.

WINNER: Bryan, at 5:00. Nice twist with the ending of Bryan kicking out of the frogsplash. It would’ve been nice to see Chavo go over someone strong heading into the PPV, since he hasn’t won in so long.

Chavo got pissed and threw Bryan into the ring post. Sin Cara then came out, wearing his new t-shirt. He trampolined into the ring, then took Chavo out of the ring with a headscissors.

5 – TED DIBIASE vs. TRENT BARRETA

DiBiase did a slingshot clothesline and went for a cover, only getting two. Barreta went to the top and did a corckscrew…something onto DiBiase. I guess it was supposed to be a kick, according to Booker. Enziguiri by Barreta, but a Tornado DDT was turned into a spinebuster. Dream Street and that was it.

WINNER: DiBiase, at 1:26. Nice to get DiBiase back on track, and the relationship with DiBiase and Rhodes is intriguing.

6 -- World Hvt. champion RANDY ORTON vs. MARK HENRY -- non-title match

Back with Henry on the apron, and Orton dropkicking Henry to ringside. Henry regained control in the ring. Two headbutts by Henry put Orton’s back on the mat. Orton began to fight back at the 7:25 mark, and landed two knee-drops. Orton stalked Henry, and got down to pound the mat for the RKO. But Henry exited the ring before Orton could get to him. As Orton readied for the rope-assisted DDT, Sheamus ran in for the DQ.

WINNER: Orton, via DQ, at 8:30.

Christian walked out to the ramp, like Orton did in the first segment, and just waited. The heels choked Orton in the corner as Christian surveyed the scene. Then, he ran to the ring to help Orton out. He got rid of Sheamus and Orton tripped Henry up in the corner. Orton and Christian were standing tall in the ring as the crowd chanted “RKO.” Orton saw Christian and shoved him. The two exchanged words, then Sheamus attacked Christian from behind. Henry and Orton traded blows, ugly blows at that. Christian threw Sheamus out again and Orton RKO’d Henry. Then he leaped in the air, doing a mid-air split, and did some weird fist-pumping celebration that looked totally out of character, but also would make an awesome .gif. Orton had the belt, and he and Christian went face-to-face to end the show.
